Chapter 32

Josh POV

I got back to the pack house and made my way to the hospital. I was exhausted and feeling grim, but wanted to check on Jess. I was also concerned for how Sam was taking the news, about werewolves. She saw a lot today and I can imagine that she will have a lot of questions for me.

When I reached the building, my wolf was acting anxious. He wouldn’t stop whining, but a different whine, not the grieving kind.

I walked inside the building and made my way down the hall past the receptionist. All of a sudden, it hit me, the most intoxicating smell. It smelt like vanilla and coffee and it made my mouth salivate. Where is that smell coming from, I wondered?

I followed it to one of the examination rooms and threw the door open with so much force, that it hit the wall and cracked it.

Standing in front of me, with a surprise look on her face, was Sam. My heart beat picked up and breathing became heavy. My wolf was screaming the same word, that had early destroyed me.

“MATE” He growled out, while temporarily taking control.

The moon goddess blessed me with a second chance mate and it’s Sam. Here eyes were wide with shock, as she stood frozen in place. I stalked towards her, unable to stop myself. She didn’t move, she had a surprise look on her face, but I saw no fear.

I lower my head into the crook of her neck and inhaled deeply. My hand moved the back of her head to hold her in place. The smell, was the most delicious thing ever and I couldn’t get enough of it.

When my hand touched her head, sparks shot through me and up my arm. I felt a shiver run through her body in responses.

“Ok…you must of eaten from the same Crackerjack box as Heather. What’s up with the word, mate?” Sam said and I couldn’t help but chuckle lightly. I was pleasantly surprise that she wasn’t scared of me, even after what she saw.

She won’t feel the bond like I do, because she’s human. I’ll have to explain everything to her and hopefully she will accept me. I’ll have to be patient with her, she doesn’t know anything about our kind. Patience isn’t my strong suit, but I’ll try my best.

“I’ll explain everything. I promise.” I replied with a small smile, while tucking her hair being her ear. She must of felt the sparks, because she flinched at my touch and looked at me curiously.

When I finally came out of my trance, I saw that Jess was lying in the bed and and Alpha Colton was beside her. They both had surprised looks on their faces and Alpha Colton’s mouth was hanging open.

It’s rare to get a second chance mate and the fact that it’s Sam is incredible.

“Glad to see you’re ok, Jess.” I said, while putting my arm around Sam’s waist. I couldn’t seem to let go of her, I needed to be touching her at all times. I was happy that she wasn’t pushing me away.

“I am, thanks to you.” Jess replied, with a smile.

“I did what needed to be done. I don’t want anything bad happening to you guys. I’m just glad it all worked out in the end.” I replied truthfully and looked down at Sam. She looked back at me with admiration in her eyes.

“I think Sam and I need sometime alone, so I can explain things to her.” I said, while never removing my eyes from her.

“Ya, you think?” She replied sarcastically.

“I’m going to stay with Jess tonight. I’ll mind-link you if I need anything.” Alpha Colton said and it caught me a little off guard. He’s going to spend the night in the hospital, with Jess? That man is a fool, how does he not get the Mate vibes, when he’s with her. Even a blind man could see their bond, I thought to myself.

“Mind-link?” Sam asked curiously.

“Let’s go back to myself room, I’ll answer any questions you have.” I said and guided Sam towards the door.

“Ok, but only if you show me your wolf. I want to see him again, this time when I’m not worried about dying.” Sam said, while shaking her head in disbelief.

“You got yourself a deal.” I replied, with a grin.

We started to walk back in silence, I could tell Sam was deep in thought.

“What’s on your mind?” I asked curiously and she started to blush before replying.

“I can’t believe I got finger banged by a werewolf.” She blurted out honestly and I snorted. Oh my goddess I love this woman, she has no filter.

“Seriously that’s what you’re thinking about? Not, is he going to eat me? Should I run away?” You know, the normal questions one would asked, when they replace out werewolves aren’t just a tale in books.” I said, while chuckling.

“Well, are you?” She stopped to ask, with an eyebrow raised.

“No.” I replied, while shaking my head in disbelief.

“Good, now that we sorted that out, let’s get to the cool stuff.” She said and I again chuckled.

We got back to my room and she took a seat on the bed. I sat next to her, she was waiting anxiously for me to speak.

“Where do you want me to start?” I asked. I wasn’t sure what Alpha Colton had already told her, so I didn’t want to repeat everything.

“Who was that woman or wolf, that you killed?” She asked softly, with a curious look. I let out a sigh, before speaking. Of course she would start with the hardest question.

“She was my fated mate. Werewolves are blessed with a mate, it’s kinda like a soulmate. When you turn 19, you’ll be able to sense your mate, when they’re near you. Their scent is intoxicating and the bond draws you to them, you basically can’t live without them. From when I was a kid, I couldn’t wait to turn 19 so that I could replace my mate. My parents were fated mates and the love they shared, was something you would read in romance novels. I always wanted that for myself.” I replied truthfully.

“You killed your mate to save us?” She asked, in a soft voice and I nodded my head.

“I did what I needed to do and I don’t regret my decision. I wish she hadn’t forced my hand, but I can’t dwell on the past.” I said, in a serious voice. I could see the pity in her eyes, as she looked at me.

“So, why did you say the word mate, like a possessed mad man, when you entered the hospital room?” She asked curiously.

“Well, it’s rare but sometimes the moon goddess blesses us with a second chance mate and I found mine today.” I said and her eyes went wide, as she pointed to her chest with her finger.

“Me?!” She asked, in surprise tone. I nodded my head.

“You’re my second chance mate, if you’ll have me, that is?” I asked and watched as her face lit up. She had a big smile and she jumped on my lap, before giving me a big tight hug.

“Ok, but if anyone asked, I’m going to call you my boyfriend not my mate. I don’t want to sound crazy, like you and Heather throwing that mate word around.” She said and I chuckled.

“So, what do you think about living with me, from now on?” I asked, feeling hopeful. She looked at me for a few seconds, before answering. I could tell she was thinking, the anticipation was killing me.

“I love it here and you’re not so bad either. I would be happy to stay.” She said, with a smile and gave me a playful wink. I smiled and felt a huge weight lifted from my shoulders.

“Now, show me your fluffy dog again.” She said excitedly, with a big grin. I shook my head and chuckled at her words.

“When you call Jester fluffy, you’re practically taking his man card away. It’s like calling him a labradoodle. I think he would like something a little tougher, like beast Or giant scary wolf.” I said, while still chuckling.

“He has a name? Does he talk to you?” She asked curiously.

“He does and he strongly dislikes being called a fluffy dog.” I replied.

“Ok I won’t call him that again. Now, hurry! I want to meet him.” She squealed out excited.

I got up from the bed and started to take my clothes off.

“Oh, I like where this is going.” She said, with a mischievous smirk, while rubbing her hands together and I laughed.

Once I was naked, I shifted into my grey wolf. I heard her gasp, when I was done shifting.

I looked over and saw that she was wide eyed, but wasn’t fearful. She looked both excited and curious.

I slowly walked towards her and she hesitantly lifted her hand up, towards my head.

I nudged her hand with my snoot, letting her know that she could touch me. Her hand landed on the top of my head and she started to run her fingers through my fur.

“Ok, I know I said I wouldn’t saying it again but I can’t help it, you’re so fluffy I just want to die!” She squealed out, with a big grin.

Jester growl, but he couldn’t even pretend to be mad, two seconds later he was practically purring, while she continued to pet him.

I laid next to her on the bed and she curled up into my soft fur, while brushing her hand through it.

Goddess I’m so happy, I finally have my mate beside me and she’s everything I ever wanted. I’m already head over heals for this woman.

Today didn’t start off well, but at the end of the day, I’m exactly where I should be. Everything happens for a reason and Sam is my reason.

Now that I have my mate, I need to work on Alpha Colton and Jess. I know she’s his mate, anyone who sees them together, would see it. He just can’t sense it, because of the spell casted on her and he’s to stubborn to trust his own gut feeling. That’s ok, I’m good at pushing his buttons. I don’t mind playing with fire, it’s for a good cause after all.
