The Mysterious Luna -
Chapter 58
Beth POV
I was so proud of Jess, things were chaotic and extremely stressful, but she held her emotions in check and led her pack like a true Luna. I saw a side of her today, that I had never seen before. She was strong, powerful and radiated with confidence. It was clear that she was a born leader.
After I told her to go and replace her mate, I did another dozen trips back and forth between territories, before all of Alpha Colton’s warriors were active in the fight.
I felt exhausted after using so much energy, but I couldn’t rest, not until I knew my baby girl was safe.
Once I had managed to get all the warriors to the battle field, it didn’t take long for us to dominate the fight. I could see the enemy warriors retreating and Alpha Colton’s men chased after them.
I took a moment to look around and my heart sunk, there were bodies everywhere and the ground was tinted red. A tear ran down my cheek, when I saw how many lives where lost.
My eyes scanned the crowd, as I frantically searched for Jess, but I couldn’t replace her or Alpha Colton.
The battle was now over and the warriors were helping the injured.
“Jessica!” I shouted over and over, trying to replace her amongst the crowd.
My heart was pounding in my chest, I needed to know she was ok.
“She took the Alpha and Beta back to our territory, they were both in need of medical attention.” One of the warriors told me and I let out a relieve sigh. I hope Colton and Josh are ok, but to know my baby girl is safe, was what mattered most to me.
“Thank you.” I replied and he nodded.
I was about to teleport myself back to Alpha Colton’s territory, when someone spoke and caught my attention.
“Mate” I heard a man growl and I froze in shock.
I looked to the man standing only 10 feet away from me. His eyes locked with mine and he had the most intense look on his face. He looked both excited and pained. Was he talking to me?
He didn’t look a day over 40, but I knew he was a werewolf and it’s hard to determine their actual age. He had chocolate brown hair and piercing blue eyes. He was built like a Greek god and my core tightened just at the sight of him. Who is he?
My heart started beating faster and I felt an unexplainable pull towards him. At the same time, I felt ashamed for having this sort of a reaction to someone other than my deceased mate and first love, Greg.
I knew what I needed to do, as hard as it was, I closed my eyes and teleported myself back to Alpha Colton’s territory, leaving the mysterious man behind.
For some reason, my heart ached. Who was he? The thought of never seeing him again, hurt, but I couldn’t let myself dwell on it. Once I was back on the territory, I ran to the hospital. I need to see with my own eyes, that Jess was ok.
Once I reached the front door, I threw it open and quickly made my way inside. I froze, when I found Jess sitting on the ground with her arms wrapped around her knees, sobbing uncontrollably. The sight broke my heart. I fell to the ground next to her and wrapped my arms around her body.
“Shhhh… It’s going to be ok.” I soothed. But truthfully, I had no idea what was happening. Where was Colton? Was he alive? I was afraid to ask, she seemed so vulnerable.
“What if they can’t save him? What if he dies?”She cried out and a slight sigh of relief left my chest, when she confirmed that he was still alive.
“He’s strong baby girl, he’ll pull through.” I said, while rubbing her back and trying to reassure her.
“I just found him, mom. What if he doesn’t?” She asked in a shaky voice. I could hear the desperation in her tone.
“Have faith, sweetheart.” I said softly and held her against my chest.
After around an hour, the doctor came out into the waiting room.
“Luna, the Alpha is in stable condition. He isn’t healing as fast as I would like him to, but that’s probably because of the wolfbane in his system.” The doctor reported and I glanced over at Jess, who seemed just as confused as I was, when the doctor mentioned wolfbane. Why would he have that in his system? Someone must of drugged him.
“Can I see him?” Jess asked, barely above a whisper.
“Of course, Luna. Follow me. Having you close to him, might actually speed up his recovery.” The doctor replied and we followed him down the hall.
As we entered the room, the first thing that caught my attention, was the beeping heart monitor. It was a loud reminder that he was still alive.
I looked over to see Alpha Colton laying on a hospital bed, unconscious. He had all kinds of tubes and wires attached to his body. It broke my heart to see him in such a vulnerable state. What was even more heart breaking, was seeing Jess crumble in the chair next to him, holding onto his hand for dear life.
I could feel how much she cared for him, I wish there was more that I could do.
“I’m going to check on Sam and Josh next door, I’ll give you a few minutes with your mate.” I said to Jess, while squeezing her shoulder. She didn’t reply, but I knew she heard me, so I made my way out of the room and down the hall.
I could heard Sam and the doctor talking inside another room. The door was open, but I knocked lightly, to announce my presence.
Sam looked over at me, with red puffy eyes. I knew she had been crying.
“How is Josh?” I asked, while wrapping my arms around Sam in a tight hug, I could tell she needed to be comforted right now. I could see over her shoulder, Josh laid unconscious on the hospital bed, his entire body was wrapped in bandages.
“He’s not in the clear yet, he lost so much b***d.” Sam replied, in a shaky voice.
“I’ll leave you two alone.” The doctor said and Sam and I nodded, before he left the room.
“He’s a fighter, he’ll pull through. Stay positive.” I said, trying to reassure her.
“How’s Colton?” She asked.
“He’s stable, Jess is by his side in the room next door.” I replied and she looked relieved to hear that he was stable.
I only recently met Sam, but seeing her with Jess it’s like they are sisters. She’s really grown on me and I already replace myself caring for her, like she was my own daughter. I really hope Josh pulls through, so they can be happy together.

Jessica POV
I sunk into the seat next to Colton and held his hand in mine. I laid my head over top of our hands and prayed for him to be ok. He looked so pale and weak. I hated seeing him so vulnerable, he’s always the strong and proud kind.
My mom had come back to check on me, but I told her to go and rest, she looked completely exhausted. I knew she must of done a lot of trips, back and forth through teleportation, in order to get all the warriors there. It must of completely drained her energy. She didn’t want to leave my side at first, but eventually complied and left the hospital.
I must of dozed off in the chair at some point, because I woke up to the sound of knocking. It took a few seconds, for the sleep haze to lift and remember where I was.
“Come in” I said.
The door opened and Kyle walked in. He looked tired and concerned.
“Luna, how’s he doing?” Kyle asked, as he made his way over to the bed.
“He’s stable, but his healing is slow.” I replied.
“What happened over at the Cold Stone Pack?” I decided to ask. I saw a flash of anger cross Kyle’s face before he replied.
“The warriors briefed me on everything that went down. I guess, Alpha Philip’s showed up, Heather’s father. He challenged Alpha Colton to a fight and managed to drug him while they were fighting. When our men were about to step in and protect Alpha Colton, hundreds more of Alpha Philip’s warriors showed up and our guys were severely outnumbered. They fought as best as they could, but it was a losing battle. If it wasn’t for Alpha Peter, you and your mom, we would of lost a lot more men today, including our Alpha.” Kyle replied, in a somber tone.
So many emotions flooded me, shock, sadness, fear and the biggest one, anger. How dare that man drug my mate. We will get our revenge, that I am sure of.
“How many men did we lose?” I asked, even though I was scared of the answer. I saw the b***d bath and bodies, I knew a lot of lives were lost.
“47 dead and 89 injured. 19 of the dead were from our pack and the rest from the Cold Stone Pack.” Kyle replied, in a low voice and I could see the sadness in his eyes.
“Make sure their families get the support and resources they need to cope. Once Colton is awake, we will hold a mass funeral to honour our warriors.” I instructed and he nodded.
“What about Alpha Philip? Did he survive?” I asked and couldn’t hold back the venom that laced my words.
“He must of gotten away. We didn’t replace his body amongst the dead.” Kyle replied and I could hear the anger in his tone. I knew he wanted revenge just as bad as I did.
“I’ll talk with Alpha Peter, Maybe he’ll be willing to help us protect our territories, until our warriors are back on their feet.” I suggested.
I still haven’t met Alpha Peter, but he seems to be a man of honour and I hope he’ll be willing to lend us a hand, again. He’s really done a lot for us lately and I am beyond grateful.
“Actually, Alpha Peter is here on our territory. He came, once everything was under control at the Cold Stone Pack. He got here about an hour ago, with a bunch of his warriors and he’s already supplementing our border patrol with some of his men.” Kyle reported and I was a bit surprised to hear the news. Maybe he was closer to Colton than I realized.
“That is kind of him to do that, without even being asked.” I said with, with a curious frown.
“I was a little surprised too, but I wasn’t about to question him. We are in desperate need of help right now and he’s got the numbers to do it.” Kyle replied. It was true, if he was willing to help, I wasn’t going to turn that down.
“Well, when you see him, please send him here. I would like to thank him in person, for everything he’s done.” I said and Kyle nodded.
“If that’s everything Luna, I would like to go check on the wounded warriors.” Kyle said, while bowing his head respectively.
“That’s all, please keep me updated.” I replied and he nodded, before leaving the room.
I let out a deep sigh, when I was once again alone with my mate.
“Please wake up. Your pack needs you, I need you.” I begged, while tears ran down my cheeks.
