The Reckoning of Love Chapter 17
Chapter 17 A Pompous CEO
Celeste snorted and rolled her eyes scornfully. Then, she kept her phone and got some shut-eye. Anyway, Julian was fully aware of her family background. There was no way the Greatrep Group’s CEO would be afraid of a good-for-nothing gambler. Soon, she arrived at her destination and stepped out of the bus. When she saw Julian’s shoes in the doorway and the lights in the study, she knew he was home. She entered the bedroom and took a shower before getting in bed. As she leaned against the headboard, she fell deep in thought. Her heart grew heavy at the thought of Julian’s identity. If they were not so different in terms of their statuses, she could’ve been at ease. But now, all this was giving her a headache. A while later, she started feeling sleepy. Just as she was ready to close her eyes, her phone rang. She picked it up and realized it was Selene’s call. Then, she covered herself with a quilt and connected the call. “What’s up, Selene?” “Leste! I heard from Susan and Tiana that you’re married! Is that true? Who’s your husband? Why didn’t you tell me such an important matter?” Faced with her questions, Celeste wasn’t sure how to respond. “Well, I’m indeed married.” Just then, she caught a whiff of a charred smell. She quickly lifted the quilt and got out of bed. “Hold on. Something has happened. I have to take a look.” Following that, she traced the smell and arrived at the kitchen, only to be greeted with a shocking sight. The pot was dry, and the pierogis were charred. Moreover, the stove hadn’t been turned off. Julian held a spatula in his hand, looking helpless. Celeste quickly turned off the stove. The kitchen was filled with a burnt smell, and smoke was billowing from the pot. She looked at Julian and realized the six-foot-two man was in a dazed state while holding a spatula. A moment later, he demanded like a kid, “I didn’t have dinner. I’m hungry.” Then, Celeste heard his stomach growling. She found it funny, but she contained her urge to laugh. Following that, she examined him judgingly. Well, wasn’t he very proud? He ordered a lot of dishes earlier but ate nothing! She sighed and extended her hand, after which the man passed her the spatula. Then, she waved her hand to motion for him to leave the kitchen. Julian did as he was told. After putting on an apron, Celeste cleaned up the mess and prepared the pierogis for him. Outside the kitchen, Julian arrived at the display shelf and gazed at the heirloom Edmond had given to the woman. She had placed it there, and he never touched it. Soon, Celeste was done preparing the pierogis. “Your dinner is ready.” “Just keep it.” Julian placed the bag on the table and pushed it toward her. “Since my grandpa has given it to you, it’s yours now.” “Is it expensive?” “It’s the heirloom of our Meister Family,” Julian replied nonchalantly. He took a seat and started having his food. Upon hearing that, Celeste was dumbfounded. Did he just say it’s the heirloom of the Meister Family? In other words, it’s invaluable! “You can keep it on your son’s behalf,” Julian said. “Place it somewhere. Don’t leave it here. If my grandpa sees it one day, he’ll be displeased.” “All right.” Celeste took the bag and explained, “When you prepare pierogi, you have to put in more water. Boil the water to around 140 Fahrenheit and drop the pierogis. Don’t drop them when the water is at room temperature. Otherwise, they’ll break apart. Also, if you put too little water, they’ll be charred.” With that, she turned around and entered the bedroom. Selene had sent her many messages asking about her marriage. Since it was a long story, Celeste had no idea where to begin. After finishing the food, Julian did the dishes. He picked up a bathrobe and stepped into the bathroom to take a shower. Under the lights, he took off his shirt and revealed his abdomen. No doubt he had an attractive figure, and his tanned skin radiated a healthy glow. However, there was a hideous scar on his left arm. He stood under the showerhead and let the warm water come into contact with the scar. It no longer felt hurtful, but the pain in his heart could never be eliminated. Something had been bothering him for the past 18 years. Regardless of how wealthy or powerful he was, perhaps there was something in the world he could never replace the answer to.
