The Reckoning of Love Chapter 18

Chapter 18 A Topic He’s Trying to Avoid

While Julian was taking a shower, Celeste lay in bed and told Selene she would talk about the marriage in detail someday. ‘It’s very late now. Go to bed early and stop sending me messages!’ Selene responded with an okay sign and stopped bombarding her with messages. While scrolling through social media, Celeste caught sight of news reports about her husband’s inauguration. She sat straight up and read the reports with interest. ‘Although the new CEO of the Greatrep Group is only 23 years old, he has been secretly controlling the company for years.’ ‘Julian Meister becoming the Greatrep Group’s CEO is the biggest event in Rotterwand right now.’ ‘Julian Meister is set to become the next dark horse in the world of finance.’ No doubt Julian’s appointment as the new CEO was the major news in the city, and there were all sorts of reports about him. Celeste was engrossed in looking at the brilliant and noble man in the photos. Although the inauguration ceremony was brief, the video had attracted millions of views. New comments were still popping up every second. Many women expressed their love for him in those comments. Celeste thought that there must never be a lack of women around an outstanding man like him. Then, she recalled the woman in a blue suit and a skirt by the man’s side. She reckoned that they must be close to each other. Soon, Julian stepped out of the bathroom while clad in a bathrobe. Sitting on the bed, Celeste looked up as their eyes met. The man stopped drying his hair all of a sudden. Under the warm lights, the woman looked calmly at him as her hair hung loose around her chest. The atmosphere was tranquil. At that moment, he couldn’t help thinking about Natalia. When Celeste caught sight of his abdomen, she quickly pocketed her gaze and blushed bashfully. “You can’t sleep naked. Put something on now.” Then, she lifted the quilt and slid under it. Julian smiled and placed the towel on the chair. Following that, he blow-dried his hair and changed into pajamas before getting in bed. The bed was around 7 feet wide, so they could sleep comfortably on it. He wasn’t in the mood to bed her that night. In fact, he had been absent-minded since returning from the restaurant. A figure from four years ago kept springing into his mind. Celeste and Natalia didn’t look alike, but there were moments when he felt they bore some resemblance. That kind of resemblance could always soften his heart. It was said that first love was the most unforgettable. It was the same case for a powerful businessman like him. “Julian, didn’t you treat the wound on your arm?” Upon hearing that, Julian came to his senses and realized the woman was looking at his scar while lying on her side. His gaze turned icy, but he had no intention of pulling his sleeve down. After all, she had seen it and even touched it while they were in an intimate session a while back. At that time, he could feel her fingers retracting. “Do you trust me?” Celeste asked softly. “I can help you treat it.” Julian didn’t respond to her. It seemed that he was trying to avoid the topic. On the other hand, Celeste was puzzled. Given his status, why didn’t he get treated in a hospital after he was wounded? Judging from the appearance of his scar, he didn’t receive any treatment at that time, not even the simplest one. He also didn’t use cold water to ease his pain. She could imagine how painful he must’ve felt. The scar looked old, so he was probably a young kid when he was injured. For some reason, Celeste felt that she should try treating his scar, considering that she was his wife. Since the man provided for her now, she felt that she had to do something for him. The next morning, Julian got out of bed and left the place. He didn’t offer to send the woman to the company. Celeste understood his concerns. He certainly didn’t want anyone to replace out that he was married. Moreover, his wife came from a poor family. It was the same for her. She didn’t want anyone to know either. She preferred to gain a footing in the design world through her hard work instead of relying on a man. It was her first day going to work. She took the bus and arrived at the Greatrep Group. The moment she entered the lobby, she saw Ella walking toward the elevator. The woman was clad in a purple suit and a skirt of the same color. There was an expensive blue shirt under her jacket, and she had some delicate makeup on her face. “Good morning, Miss Walker.” “Hi, Miss Walker.” Whoever walked past her would greet her with a smile. She walked forward calmly and kept a straight face, though she would nod at them from time to time. Although she was young, she looked intimidating. Celeste slowed down her pace and let the woman enter the elevator first so that they wouldn’t come into contact with each other.
