The Unexpected Princess -
Happy Birthday
“Snow, wake up.” I heard Ethan’s voice above me. I moaned and rolled over, “I don’t wanna.” I muttered. Then I felt someone start to jump on the bed. “Snow! Get up! It’s your 18th birthday!!” Abby shouted. I kicked out my leg and she fell off the bed. I was waiting to hear a thud but I didn’t. When I rolled back over, I saw that Zach caught Abby before she fell. Abby, Jake, Ethan, Zach and John were all in the room.
“Jeez someone’s a grumpy butt.” She muttered as Zach set her down. I sighed and pulled the blanket over my head, “Can’t I just lay in bed?” I asked. The bed sank beside me and the blanket was gently pulled away from me. “No Papillon, we have a ball to go to.” Ethan said. I looked at him, “You’re kidding right?” He shook his head. “No, we made all the plans, you are having an 18th birthday ball.” He said. I groaned and looked at Abby, “I blame you for this.” She smiled.
“Come on, get up! I have to get you ready for the ball!” She exclaimed. Ethan chuckled and stood. “I’ll leave you two to get ready.” And the boys walked out of the room. I sighed and yanked the covers over my head. There is no way in hell I’m going to a ball. Abby jumped on top of me,
“Come on Snow, get up.” She whined. “No, you can’t make me.” I said. “Please, today is going to be amazing I promise.” I uncovered my face and raised my eyebrow at her, I know she’s just trying to do whats best. I sighed and sat up. She cheered happily and pulled me off of the bed. She opened my closet and dragged me inside.
“Alright, so let’s pick out an outfit.” She said. I sighed as she rummaged through the many dresses. Since I moved here, Anna got me a a personal stylist, who mad a bunch of dresses that are, well more my style. She pulled out a dress, and she handed it to me. I smiled when the fabric touched my hands. This was the favorite one that he made me. He described it as vampire Gothica. It had a kimono type style, it was black with a short skirt that stopped in the middle of my thigh. It had slim red ties and it was red on the end of the sleeves. The end of the sleeves are really loose fit until it reaches the elbow.
“That is definitely the dress you’re going to wear.” She exclaimed. I laughed. “Now go get in the shower while I pick some shoes and other things for you.” She shooed me out of the closet. I walked into the bathroom and laid the dress across the counter. I turned on the shower and stripped out of my pajamas. I jumped into the shower, I let the warm water pound against my back. Slowly starting to fully wake up. I washed my hair and then shut off the water. I wrapped towel around my body. I grabbed the dress and walked into the bedroom.
“Abby what are you doing?” I asked. She walked out of the closet and smiled widely. “I found everything you need for today. Hurry up and put your dress on!” She exclaimed. I chuckled and slipped on the dress. She smiled when she saw me,
“You look so pretty.” She gushed. I smiled and rolled my eyes. “My best friend is a nut.” She laughed. I wrapped my hair in a towel and Abby sat me down on the bed. She started to work on my makeup.
“Ow Abby what the hell are you doing?” I asked. “Just plucking your eyebrows.” She said. “Well can you not? I have to work on my hair.” I said. “Fine, while you do that, I’m going to go get dressed.” She said. She walked out of the room and closed the door behind her. I walked into the bathroom and looked in the mirror, I examined how she did my makeup.
I had on red eye shadow that blended in black about halfway into my eye. there was a little spot that looked like a heart. She did a little wing to my eyeliner. I smiled and began to curl my hair, when I was finished the curls fell loosely from my head. I stared at my reflection in the Mirror. I looked into my eyes, ever since that day, the day since I realized the Max gave me his element, when he gave me the power to control fire, my eyes changed colors, my left eye was a bright blue eye, and my right eye was a fiery red one. I sighed and I walked back into the bedroom and Ethan was sitting on the bed. I smiled and sat beside him. He looked over at me,
“You look beautiful.” He said. I smiled and intertwined our hands. “I have something for you, I want to give it to you before today gets crazy.” He grabbed a little velvet box from the bedside table and opened it. There was a gold crown shaped ring inside. It had a ring of diamond around the top of it. I smiled as he slipped it onto my ring finger,
“I love it, thank you.” He smiled and showed me his left hand, he had a ring just like it, except there’s no diamonds on it. I smiled and took his hand in mine. I can’t believe how much I love him. I laid my head on his shoulder. Then there was a knock on my door before Abby walked inside the room.
“Okay be honest, what do you think?” She asked and spun around. She had on a black dress it went down to the middle of her thigh and the lace in the back went down to her knees. There was ribbon around the left strap of the dress. Her hair was curled and she had on a black rose flower crown. She had on black strappy high heels, her nails were painted black with white poka dots. She put on black eyeliner and purple eye shadow. Her neck lace was a black gem with a snake wrapped around it, and she had in black stud earrings. I smiled at her,
“You look hella adorable.” She smiled. “I know.” I rolled my eyes and grabbed my shoes. I was going to wear my knee high black converse with red laces. When I zipped them up, I stood up and took Ethan’s hand in mine.
“Ready to party?” Abby asked. I sighed, “As ready as I’ll ever be.” Ethan chuckled and we left the room. I didn’t want to go, but I could tell how excited Abby was about this, so I thought it couldn’t be as bad as my mind was coming up with. When we reached the doors of the ballroom Ethan looked over at me.
“Ready?” He asked. I smiled and nodded. The guards opened the door and we stepped inside. I looked around the ballroom, there wasn’t as many people there as I thought, it was only about half full. Ethan bent down and whispered in my ear,
“The only people here are you friends and family, and my parents invited some family as well.” I smiled. “Knowing Abby, I thought she would have invited all of Engor.” Ethan chuckled in my ear. We slowly walked down the grand staircase and we were greeted by our parents. My mom and dad hugged me,
“Happy birthday sweetheart.” My mom said. I smiled and hugged them back. “Thanks.” After my parents moved away Anna hugged me tightly. “Happy birthday.” When Anna pulled away Ethan wrapped his arm around my waist.
“Wanna dance?” He asked. I smiled and nodded. He led me to the middle of the floor and he turned to me. He bowed, “May I have this dance?” He asked. I smiled and took his hand and he spun me around. He wrapped his arms around my waist and I placed my arms around his neck. I laid my head on his chest and we slowly danced. He rested his chin on my head.
“I love you.” He whispered. I smiled and I felt my cheeks heat up. “I love you too.” His chest rumbled as he laughed. When the song stopped we moved apart from each other and I smiled at him. He winked at me and we walked to the edge of the floor. I noticed that Aaron and Jackson were standing there, whispering to each other. I focused my hearing on their conversation.
“We’ve got to do it soon. Father already isn’t happy we’ve waited this long.” Aaron said. Jackson sighed, “I don’t know what you expect me to do, I don’t think she trusts either of us.” Aaron grunted and leaned against the wall, “Well she trusts you more then me, she just hates me.” Jackson scoffed, “I wonder why, you did call her a maid the first time we met her.” Wait, why are they talking about me? “I don’t care what you do, just hurry it up.” Aaron shoved his hands in his pockets and walked away from Jackson. I decided against following him and walked over to Abby instead.
“Hey beautiful, whats up?” She asked. I leaned against the wall and crossed my arms over my chest. “I don’t trust those brothers.” I muttered. “Who? Aaron and Jackson?” She asked. I nodded, “I want them out of here, why did you invite them?” I asked. “Well, since they’re staying at the castle I thought it’d be rude not to invite them.” She said. I sighed and moved away from the wall. Well I can’t deal with this now, not with all these people around. Ethan walked over to us and wrapped his arms around my waist.
“I was looking for you.” I smiled. “Well you found me.” He chuckled and kissed my forehead. “Having fun?” I nodded, “Oh yeah, this ball is a total blast.” He chuckled. “You’re bored aren’t you?” I nodded. “Yes, I tried having fun, I’m more of a stay in bed and watch the Lion King person.” I said. He laughed and took my hand, he turned to Abby, “Don’t tell anyone we left.” He said. She nodded and we slowly made our way to the side door. He opened it and we left the ball room. I laughed as we ran down the halls of the castle. Who knew I’d be sneaking out of my own party, Hey, it wasn’t my idea, I was just following Ethan.
