The Unwanted Luna -
Their Mate, My Saviors Chapter 67
-POV
Tanya-
What is taking so long?! I am pacing back and forth in my room while I feel my eye twitch. I stole a glance in the mirror and, unfortunately, the woman staring back was not the woman I was before. Did I not think about this one all the way through? Maybe Ayame isn't as horrible as those girls...or even I made her sound. I reached up to my swollen eye and quietly whimpered when I felt the surge of pain at the slightest touch. Maybe she was just a product of the hell hole she was trapped in.
I stared a bit longer and a tear fell from my eye the same moment his door burst open. Yeah...his door. I may sleep in this room but he made it very clear that this was his house and I was required to live here. I gasped and spun around in shock. "Ri-Richard, good to see you home. H...how was work?" I asked, clutching my arms to my chest, forcing myself to control my breathing.
He scoffed at me and disappeared into the bathroom, throwing his suit jacket on the bed in his wake. I scrambled to pick it up and put it on the hanger in the closet. Be a good wife.... Do as you are told. I internally chanted before shaking my doubts aside. Donna promised me she would make this stop. I...I can't think about Ayame's feelings right now. I'm the one getting pummeled half to death! I placed the coat on his hanger and brushed through my hair, trying my best to look presentable.
He doesn't like it when I don't take care of myself.
-POV Malerie-
"Oh, come on Tanya, it cannot be that bad. I almost have him and then we can just throw that tramp back where she belongs. I'm sure by then you can get a divorce and be on your way." I said while sharpening my nails. Every day this blithering human whined over the phone and at this point, I've tuned her out.
"Mate." My Lycan howled and I jumped out of my seat a little too excitedly. I think my spirit has this crazy idea that I actually like Charlie. I snickered inwardly and my Lycan growled.
"Look, I have to go. Be good. Bye." I hummed, cutting Tanya off mid-sentence before slamming the red button on my phone screen. I checked my hair, make-up, and outfit in the mirror, remembering to dress to impress, when I heard a knock on the door.
I pulled it open and Adolpha stormed in. "Malerie, it's been months, who are you fooling! Oh my goddess, you are falling for him!" Adolpha scowled. "I want my Conri back and you are taking too long!"
I let my eyes flash to black and growled at her. "How dare you speak to me in such a manner! I am an alpha's daughter! You will show some respect!"
Adolpha cowered and showed her neck in submission immediately. "I...I'm sorry Malerie."
I held my head high and folded my arms, clicking my teeth. "And after all I have done for you?!"
"You're right, Malerie. I wasn't thinking." She begged and that sated my anger.
I smiled down at the miserable excuse of a werewolf. "That's what I thought." I turned on my black heels and walked down the stairs as my short pink skirt slipped up my leg just enough. I walked up to the main hall and Charlie was standing there with his hands in his pockets and an unreadable expression on his face.
"Yummy." My Lycan called and I rolled my eyes. He was just wearing some nice black jeans and a grey button up, untucked I may add! This is why I rejected him. I told him he was supposed to be taking me out and he shows up like he had just rolled out of bed?! A warrior is not up to my standards and never will be. I mean, come on. Where is he taking me?! To the fair?!
I bit my lip, holding in my rage while he turned to me and looked over my outfit. Was that disgust I saw in his eyes?! There is no way. He always drools over me. I'm sure the white halter top and lacey red push-up underneath was well more than enough to get his blood going. "Why did you want to see me?" He asked poignantly as his eyes met mine. That was not the response I was expecting, but I can work with this.
I walked up to him and took a breath before leaning into his arms and pressing my chest against his bicep. No man can resist a little cleavage. When I felt my body form onto his tensed muscles, I felt my Lycan purr. In her defense, I can say he does have a nice body. I gasped and shook my head. The hell did that come from?! "You okay?" He asked, looking down at me funny. Or was it annoyed? This guy is so confusing! Even when we were children, he and Conri were so hard to read.
I looked right back at him and blushed.... Yeah, I blushed at him! Stupid mate bond! I already rejected him! "Get over it you stupid spirit!" I shouted in my mind and my Lycan growled at me before disappearing into the depths of my consciousness.
"I'm fine. I just wanted to see you. You know...make amends." Oh goddess, even I felt like that wasn't believable.
"Make amends." Charlie said, staring down at me. "So, you have been begging me to come here, texting and calling my phone nonstop, so that we can make amends?" He asked.
"Yes, of course. I'm your...your m-mate. I should be able to take back my initial thoughts of you. You should want this more than anything. Weren't you the one that said you wanted us to respect the moon goddess's choice?" The bile growing in my throat was making this situation harder and harder by the second, while I forced myself to remember the first and only day I saw Charlie cry. The day I made him cry. I smirked internally at his weakness. Just like I thought before and I'm sure of now. He is weak. He'll cave and I'll get what I want. I always get what I want.
He yanked his arm away from me, almost startling me off my feet. "You want to make amends after rejecting me to my face, and you don't even have the ability to apologize?!" He bellowed and I could feel the authority behind his words. He may not be an alpha, but he is still a ranked member and now, because of my so-called brothers, I'm nothing but a rogue. Why is this hurting so much?! No, I need to focus on the plan.
"Why are you so angry? I...I just want to talk. Is that so hard to ask?" I whimpered as real tears appeared. I was hurt that I don't hold any more authority. I was pissed that one girl could change my life so dramatically. I was shocked that the man I left in pieces now looks like he wants nothing more than to rip my head off.
"Stop whining Malerie. Look, I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt. I'm always the one who second guesses my feelings for you, and I'm always the one that gets kicked in the face because of it. You want to make amends? Fine. Prove it! I'm sure your vanity and selfish nature won't allow that to happen, but I guess I'm entertained by the thought of watching you squirm." He stormed out of the room and yanked open the front door. "Don't call me anymore. I'll let you know when I'm available. I have shit to do." He growled before slamming the door in my face and raddling the paintings on the wall.
"And you are calling him weak?" My Lycan chuckled as my anger grew. He just left! He didn't care about my clothes, he didn't say how nice I looked, and he didn't even beg me to take him back! He just left! I screamed angrily and slammed my heel into the hardwood floor, leaving a dent behind. "He's our mate. Maybe if you are a bit nicer, then -"
I took a breath and smiled ruefully. She's right. He was our mate once upon a time. He can't resist me. He'll come back. He always comes back. I sighed and pulled off my shoes. Carrying them into the living room, I sat on the couch and stared at the black TV screen. There has to be a way to...expedite the process though. I cannot tell my mother I failed. I don't fail. "Ha! And he calls you the baby? That was the worst temper tantrum...if I've ever seen one." Aldolpha said, walking into the room and sitting on the love seat next to me.
I turned and sharpened my stare. "I cannot believe he even had the audacity to talk to me in such a way. He didn't even say I looked nice!" I huffed and pulled myself to my feet, internally thanking Aldopha for pulling me out of my stupid thoughts. Wait for him?! Not going to happen. "Don't worry, Adolpha. No one rejects me." I growled.
-POV Charlie-
"Go back!" My wolf howled while I increased my speed toward the boarder. I had been driving for hours now and she is still calling me. I don't know why she cannot get it through her head, but I'm not interested!
"I will go back when she apologizes. I know this is all a set up and I know that I will have to fully reject her this time, but I'm not going to make this easy on her. There is no way! Not only will that not seem right, it will also hurt less." I growled back to my pacing wolf.
He huffed and paced back and forth like I was going to say something different. Once I finally flew past the Canadian border, my stress started to ease. "But what if her Lycan finally got to her?"
I sighed, hearing my wolf's desperation. That's all I have heard from him if it has anything to do with Malerie. I wish he would just understand it wouldn't happen. She will never actually accept us. We have to stay focused on what is obtainable and she isn't.
"Charlie, what is your ETA?" Conri called. I'm glad I called them earlier to make sure they were aware of my arrival. They weren't too happy that I was heading home so soon, but they know their sister and I know my patience limits. I'm not about to snap on her before we get the information we need.
"I will be at the border in one hour alpha." I responded. There was quite the delay, and I furrowed my brow. "Alpha?" I called again.
"Right. We will see you at dinner then. Ayame is cooking again and she wanted to know if she needed to set up a place for you." He responded.
I smiled at my friend. Out of the three brothers, he was always the hardest to crack, but he was a good leader and he kept those boys in line. Now I see a bit of his shell cracking and that is all thanks to our Luna, even though it's not official yet. I hope that will be rectified soon. They had already marked her. No use in waiting now. "Sounds good. I will see you all then."
Another pause, but this time, I waited, but Conri never responded. I continued to speed along, assuming the conversation was over, until I heard someone else ring through the link. "We know this is hard for you, and we appreciate your sacrifice. We almost have enough information on Richard's investments to take him down. Hopefully, without involving you or Ayame anymore. Until then, you have to keep up this guise. I hope you will replace another mate, my friend." Edon chimed in and I sighed. I hope so too.
