The unwanted wife’s unexpected comeback -
Chapter 25
Chapter 25:
? ? ? ? ?
Joshua remained calm and collected. “Alicia, you know what I want.”
“Not really,” Alicia replied. “Since you’re in the hospital, maybe you should consider getting a mental health evaluation.” And she ended the call.
Joshua didn't call back.
After taking a moment to compose herself, Alicia turned to Caden. “Your father is seriously ill.”
Caden remained silent for a moment, his expression unreadable.
Then he pulled out his phone and made a call. His instructions were clear. “Do whatever it takes to keep him alive.”
Alicia’s eyes flickered briefly in surprise. She'd heard rumors that Caden and Jerald had never gotten along. Given how unforgiving Caden could be, she figured he wouldn't care at this point.
It seemed that he still had some regard for the family… or perhaps it was more a matter of securing the inheritance. Alice preferred not to ask any more questions or to think about it any further.
After a brief pause, she made her position clear. “I have divorced Joshua. “I will not help him any more.” This also meant that she would not oppose Caden. She had no intention of getting involved with anyone.
Caden's eyes lost their coldness as he looked at her. “You give up so quickly?”
Alice nodded in response.
Caden seemed intrigued. “With your personality, I was hoping you would turn Joshua’s world upside down.”
Alice felt a sharp pain in her chest, followed by overwhelming fatigue. She opened the window slightly to let in some fresh air. The wind stung her eyes. “I don't have the strength to fight it, and I don't need to.”
His words came out firmly, but his voice was so soft that even an outsider could sense the lingering emotion and attachment.
A wry smile appeared on Caden's lips. “It’s tough, but now that Gerry supports you, at least you’ve been able to release some of that frustration.”
Alice turned to him. “Lilliana’s song hasn’t been released yet. It’s too early to talk about victory or defeat.”
“Why pretend modesty?” Caden raised his eyebrows, sarcasm spilling from his eyes. “Hasn’t Gerry’s support for you been made clear enough today?”
Alice froze for a moment, feeling irritated by his hostile tone.
“What do you mean by ‘support for me’?” The way he said it made it sound like there was some kind of secret agreement.
Caden replied nonchalantly, “Oh, I must have misunderstood.”
That comment made Alice's blood boil. He acted as if he hadn't said much, but in reality, he had already said everything.
If Alice argued, she knew she had no solid ground. If she didn't, the anger inside her would continue to simmer.
He let out a sharp sneer. “You must be very skilled at this, Mr. Ward. Do you often use your charm to close business deals?”
He raised his eyebrows slightly. “Not often, only when the situation requires it.”
Alicia was momentarily speechless. Unable to contain herself, she asked, “Caden, do you really have no sense of shame?”
Caden laughed at his question. “Did you leave me any dignity when you manipulated me, Miss Bennett?”
Alice thought about what she had done. Her expression softened slightly. “It was you who started it!”
“Really now?” he asked with a hint of amusement. “Was I the one who opened the door for you at the private cinema that night?”
Alice was silent. She was completely taken back by the sudden change of subject. Without missing a beat, she added, “And I was the one who unbuckled my belt?”
Alice gaped. She quickly tried to interrupt him. “Shut up!”
Caden continued in a calm tone, “And I was the one who took off my pants and held my-.”
Without hesitation, Alice lunged at him and covered his mouth with her hands.
She practically lunged at him. “I said stop talking!” she said through gritted teeth.
They were in a taxi, not in a private place. The driver had even turned off the music, obviously paying close attention, his ears practically tuned into their conversation, about to intervene.
How could Caden have no sense of decency?
Realizing this, he finally stopped talking. He stood still as she pressed herself against him, then whispered, “So who started all this?”
Alice shivered at the heat radiating from him. She quickly pulled her hand away.
Noticing her reaction, Caden chuckled. “What's with the sudden blush? Are you reflecting on our little escapade?” A tingle ran down Alicia's spine, but she denied it instantly. “I’m blushing because you made me angry!”
Reluctantly, he added, "If I'd known it was you that night, I would have rather died than slept with you."
Caden chuckled softly in her ear. “Yet it was this body you so detest that you clung to and desired, again and again.”
Alice felt her face burning. In a fit of rage, she bit his cheek viciously.
After the bite, she returned to her original position. Caden rubbed the spot where she had bitten him, remaining silent as a smile played on his lips.
After a moment, Hank's call came.
"I have some information that has not been confirmed. I'm not sure if I should share it with you yet."
"Go ahead, say it."
Hank lowered his voice. “It seems like Lilliana’s song this time was written by a ghost.”
Caden remained unfazed. “Let her do what she wants.”
Hank replied: “She's being dishonest, and you're just going to let it happen? That’s incredibly unfair to Miss Bennett.”
Caden let out a cold laugh. “Are you starting to feel sympathy for her? Maybe if a nude photo of her surfaces during the next meeting, you can replace some peace,” Hank was speechless.
Alice suddenly sneezed from her seat.
With his keen hearing, Hank caught the sound and expressed slight surprise. “Mr. “Ward, are you accompanied by a woman?”
Caden looked at Alicia.
"Yes, in a way."
"Then I won't interrupt you, Mr. Ward," Hank said.
