Chapter 27:

? ? ? ? ?

Gerry brought Alicia in at the last minute to help her pick out a dress.

She was not familiar with high-end events and felt unsure about what to choose, so she relied entirely on the shop assistant's suggestions.

Finally, they chose a snow-white mermaid dress, decorated with silver threads, as pure as freshly fallen snow.

The shop assistant smiled and said, “Miss Bennett, with your figure, anything would look good on you. But this dress is special. It is a limited edition and for the next three months it will be the only one in Warrington. “It would look amazing on someone like you.”

Alice felt a little embarrassed by the compliment.

"Okay, I'll try it on."

Just as she reached for the robe, a hand grabbed it before she could.

“Is he really the only one in Warrington?” Lilliana asked with a smug expression. “I’ll take him, then.”

Alicia stared at Lilliana, clearly confused. She kept her tone calm.

"Miss Green, I got here first."

Lilliana's smile barely changed. “I like it. “I’ll pay more for it.”

The saleswoman froze, unsure of how to handle the tension between them.

"Miss Green, we have other dresses that might suit your taste. I could even make one for you."

Still, Lilliana insisted that she wanted the dress Alicia had her eye on.

In a harsh tone, she said to him: "I told you that I am willing to pay more for it. Did you not hear me?"

The shop assistant paused to glance at the men behind them. One of them was Joshua Yates and the other Gerry Hopkins.

These men were so powerful that no one would dare try to cross them.

Meanwhile, Alice remained silent.

Joshua looked at her briefly before saying, "Mr. Hopkins, I have spoiled Lilliana. She always gets what she wants. Would it be possible for Miss Bennett to choose another dress?"

Lilliana smiled at Alicia, clearly feeling victorious.

Alice's face remained unchanged.

He felt the urge to roll his eyes.

Gerry smirked and said, “Miss Bennett? That’s pretty formal, isn’t it? It hasn’t been that long since you two got divorced and you’ve already changed the way you address her.”

Joshua's lips twitched, but he stuck to the topic at hand. “It really is an unfortunate coincidence. If it’s all right with you, I’ll buy Miss Bennett’s dress as well, as an apology to Lilliana.”

Alice's lips curved slightly.

What a hypocrite.

She replied, “First come, first served. “I want this dress, and I won’t settle for anything else.”

The two men behind them remained silent. One watched with an unreadable expression, while the other looked amused, eager to see how things would develop between Alicia and Lilliana.

Not wanting to lose, Lilliana turned to the clerk. “What is the price of this dress?”

The clerk replied, “Miss Green, it’s priced at $660,000.”

Lilliana scoffed. “I’ll offer a million.”

After speaking, she cast a disdainful glance at Alice. Ever since she married Joshua, Alice had not received a single cent from him. There was no way she could repay that.

"I'll give you two million for it," Alice countered.

Gerry's eyes lit up with excitement at her response.

"Alice, you cover the expenses, right?" I have asked.

Alice nodded, smiling calmly.

Joshua's face darkened, irritated by the unnecessary competition with Lilliana.

Not willing to be outbid, Lilliana raised her offer. “Three million.”

Alice spoke without hesitation. “Five million.”

Lilliana's expression tightened. “Eight million!”

Alice paused for a moment. Her gaze briefly returned to the dress.

Certain that she had won, Lilliana looked at the clerk and said, “Pick it up. It’s mine.”

Alice stepped forward and stopped Lilliana. Taking a deep breath, she spoke quietly but firmly. “I’ll pay ten million for the dress.”

Lilliana grimaced, unable to hide her disbelief.

"Can you really afford ten million?" I have asked.

Alice bit her lip slightly before replying, "But, Miss Green, I really want this dress. I'd even add another million if you'd let me have it."

Lilliana's arrogance only grew when she heard Alicia's plea, and her laughter filled the room.

With even more confidence, Lilliana rejected Alicia's offer. "I'll pay fifteen million. This dress will be mine."

Alice's expression softened, her eyebrows relaxing as she smiled softly. “Okay,” she said, waving her hand dismissively. “It's yours.”

Lilliana froze.

Gerry couldn't contain his laughter any longer.

He glanced at Joshua, whose expression had darkened, and added with a grimace, "Miss Green sure knows how to spend."

It was nonsense.

Lilliana realized too late that she had fallen into Alicia's trap.

Frustration took hold of her.

The dress originally cost a little over six hundred thousand. Its production cost was less than one hundred thousand, and now she had to pay fifteen million. She felt like a fool.

However, his pride was more important and he couldn't back down.

Meanwhile, Alice browsed around the store and chose a light blue dress decorated with small diamonds.

"I'll take this one," he announced.

Lilliana clenched her jaw in silent frustration.

With a grim expression, Joshua said to Lilliana, “Next time, don’t be so reckless.”

Lilliana responded with a pout. “That bitch set me up!”

Joshua frowned. “Watch your words. Remember who you are.”

Gerry cleared his throat and reminded Joshua, “Mr. Yates, didn’t you say you would cover Alicia’s dress as well?”

Joshua felt a lump in his throat. “Yes, I did.”

Alice didn't hesitate.

She grabbed the dress and walked out.

Once they were in the car, Gerry couldn't help but laugh at the looks on Lilliana and Joshua's faces.

"It's a shame Caden wasn't here to witness this," she added, "You have to see what kind of person he's been spending his money on."

Determined to share the story, Gerry immediately dialed Caden's number.

He enthusiastically described the scene in great detail. Just as he was getting into it, Caden cut him off. “Do you know any porn sites?”

Everyone in the car fell silent at the unexpected question. Gerry looked at Alicia, quickly turned off the speaker and whispered into the phone, “Yeah, why?”

Caden replied sharply: "Go see them and stop calling me, you idiot. You're getting on my nerves."
