The Wannabe Warrior -
Chapter 113
Madison POV
I brought some cakes with me to Gerome, knowing he has a sweet tooth and never says no to cakes of any kind.
Entering, I saw he was already working on a computer.
‘Who are you looking into?’ I asked as I placed the cakes beside him on the table.
‘I am having another look at Fredericks. Alpha wants us to go over every computer again, look further back, and if we need to be thorough, see if we can bring back some of the deleted data and take our time, be more diligent with our investigation. We don’t want to cause issues with innocent people, just because the Alpha is corrupt. It does not mean his pack is. They have to do as per the Alpha instructions whether they agree with him or not.’
‘I understand which pack you want me to start with.’ I had wanted to do just that at some point, I wanted to make sure we missed no one.
‘At the moment he wants you to concentrate solely on the Dark River Pack, we need to take down that Alpha, go hunting, pull as much data as you can, replace all the dirt. I know you already pulled that stuff relating to the advisor and Clarence, but we need to see what he did for himself. Did he follow blindly, or did he do some back door deals of his own? Alpha also wants you to look at the Beta computer, maybe he has corresponded with someone about what was going on’, Gerome said as he grabbed a cake and took a large bite.
I sat down on the computer I had used before, when working on The Dark River Pack and got to work. I had to be careful as this Alpha was still active. We didn’t want him to go hurting innocent people because of our investigation, but at the same time, we didn’t want to miss an important link to someone powerful that could start all this up again later.
First, I imported a large section from his computer, then I logged out of Alpha’s computer and started working on the information I had downloaded. It was long, slow work, going through every detail I could replace, deciding if the information was something we wanted to keep or not, I did not get rid of anything. I started putting some of the more important information on a thumb drive. It was as I was deep in one area, that I noticed it was weird, so much information appeared to be missing, just small bits and pieces, like half a conversation. It was then I realised I would need to log back in and see if I could replace his deleted files and import them across.
Going through what I had, I lost track of time, until Zane came in and dragged me out for dinner.
I had not even realized that Gerome had left, I was so zoned out on my work.
‘How is it going in there?’ Zane asked as we walked me to the dining hall.
‘I need to log in again, there is information missing, I need to hunt for the deleted files and import them, see if I can recreate them. I was thinking of doing that after I had finished with the data I have. It might give me a direction on what I am looking for. It seems more than one file is incomplete. I have found one that is protected. That is one I will need help on. Maybe I will ask Gerome if he has any ideas. You all know that pack and the Alpha better than me and might have ideas of possible passwords.’ I reply as we enter the dining hall and head to Ezekiel and the group we seem to gravitate to each time.
We sat down and Zane grabs some food and places it in front of me, before I realised what he was doing, I was so tired mentally, staring at that computer data for so long, I had failed to do anything but to sit down and relax for a little while.
‘Dad, Madison was saying she needed to log back into the Deep River Pack computer, needing to replace some deleted files, plus it is one that is password protected. Can you come up with some suggested passwords? You have known him the longest. Did any special events happen? That he would think of using it as a password?’ blurted out Zane, before I could ask Alpha myself. This annoyed me a bit. I did not like it when he tried to take over my life and treat me like a submissive.
‘That is a hard one, son. He is a tricky bastard. He could use almost anything. I will think about it and come back to you with some suggestions, maybe something from his youth.’ he said as he filled his plate with food.
‘Yeah, anything you can come up with will help, thanks dad.’ Zane said as he cut up the meat on his plate and popped a piece in his mouth, and gave a soft m**n.
‘I don’t like having to go back to his computer so soon.’ I said sleepily.
‘That can’t be helped, girl, we have little choice. If you think you need to dig deeper, then dig, and if we have issues, we will just go in a little blind and when we are there, we can confiscate the computer and bring it back here.’ Alpha said casually.
‘I can go over there, Alpha, with Graham and Peter, and get my hands on the computer, if I can’t replace what I am looking for remotely.’ I suggested, as I thought of what I could do there.
‘Like, hell you are Madison, you are not going into that danger.’ Zane yelled at me, so forcefully, it made me cringe away from him, shocking him as I withdrew from him, so fast.
‘s**t, I am sorry, Madison, I didn’t mean to yell at you, I just did well…’ Zane tried to pull me to him, but I refused and leaned away, tears threatening to stream down my face, my chin quivering.
‘Stop, don’t say another word and don’t touch me.’ I got up from the table and ran out of the room and back to the monitoring room, closing and locking the door so Zane could not follow me in. I blocked all mind-links and put on headphones, trying to listen to soft music in an attempt to calm myself down. I was so very angry and, for the first time, scared of my mate.
