The Wannabe Warrior
Chapter 114

Zane POV

‘Calm down son.’ My dad commanded, as I fumed at the idea of Madison going to that unstable pack, to be near an Alpha that was a traitor, and who knew how many of that pack members were traitors too.

‘Dad, you can’t let Madison go there, it is too dangerous. ‘I demanded, staring at my dad; he was angry at me.

‘Calm down, the dining hall is not a place to lose your temper, son.’ Dad replies calmly as Jonathon stands up and heads down the hall, at a fast pace, I presume to replace and console Madison.

‘But dad.’ I started, he put his hand up at me.

‘Come to my office. NOW.’ He growled at me, and I had no choice but to follow him to his office. Alpha Daniel and Mitch followed behind. I noticed Ryan took off after Jonathon down the hall, but all I could do was try and placate my wolf as he growled angrily in my head. I had almost lost control of him at the table and I am still fighting to keep control over him, he has got so much stronger since I was mated and I am still adjusting to his sudden urges to take over and claim his mate. Maybe I need to get Madison and go out for a run, let our wolves have some bonding time. We have been so busy with all the rogues and other stuff we have hardly had time for ourselves.

Dad stands inside his office, his arms folded, his face angry. I felt like a ten-year-old again, about to be scolded for some stupid thing I had done. I lowered my head and bare my neck at him in submission, but that did not placate my dad, it just made him angrier, and a low growl rumbled from his chest and I felt the power behind it hit me with full force. My dad was a powerful man, and until I was king, even I had to bow down to him, especially when he used his powerful side, which he has rarely needed to use on me, but I have seen how others often submit and even wet their pants in fear. Dad had me submitting even further, with the use of his power now. I was almost bowed to the floor, which had me a little confused, when I had just submitted to him willingly, before he used the power. Did I miss the reason behind this use of power? I am confused now as to what was going on.

My emotions are in turmoil.

Alpha Daniel and Mitch walk into the office behind me and Mitch closes the door and locks it, making me cringe, this is not going to be good.

‘Sit down.’ Dad commands. I stood back up and moved to a chair and I did as I was told, like a child doing his father’s bidding, and I was still unable to look my dad in his eye as I reached the chair and stared at the floor waiting for the scolding.

‘Son,’ he started softly, which made me look up at him in surprise. I expected to be yelled at. Dad was standing near me, no longer looking angry, just sad.

‘Madison is a special girl, yes, she is your mate, but you cannot go yelling at her like that in front of the pack. Did you notice that even Graham jumped from his seat ready to tackle you if you so much as harmed that lass? She is a strong warrior and I know she could defend herself against almost all our warriors. However, when it comes to fighting against you, her mate, you will win every time, as it is the wolf’s nature to submit to her mate. You have scared that lass today, she is not going to forget your anger in a hurry.’ Dad sighs as he watches me, but I make no move or show any signs that I cared that I hurt my mate, but inside I can feel my wolf back down and let me have full control.

‘Do you even care?’ Alpha Daniel asked after I made no comment or reaction to dad’s comments and his voice was incredulous at the idea of me not caring for my mate.

‘Of course, I care.’ I growled out frustratedly, not sure how to act at the moment, I felt so small for my behaviour to my mate.

A knock on the door stopped our chat and Jonathon entered the room. He was looking at me speculatively and sad.

Then his face changed as if he suddenly understood everything. He had a look of determination on his face and noticed my dad nodding at him, so I assume he had a mind linked to dad.

‘Son, we are here for you. Are you having trouble with your wolf? Is that why you lost it in the dining hall?’ Jonathon asked, pinpointing my problem, and my respect for the man rose even higher. His ability to see through the anger and get to the source amazed me.

‘Yes, sir, I almost shifted in the dining hall. My wolf hates that his mate is going to be in danger. I would never stop her from going and doing what she needs to do. It is for the betterment of all the packs and I had promised before we mated that until we have pups, she could be the warrior she needs to be, then we would discuss her warrior needs after the pups are born. But my wolf does not understand, and I am kinda embarrassed to say that. Since we are fully mated, my wolf has been getting stronger and he tries to take over quite unexpectedly sometimes, and it takes everything I have, not to allow him out.’ I am being honest, no matter how embarrassing it is, I hope Jonathon can help me with this problem. I seem to be losing the battle with each passing day. Jonathon seems to be a strong Beta and has helped his Alpha through some difficult times.

‘At least you are admitting it, it took me almost six months before I could get Daniel to admit he was losing control of his wolf after Luna died. Now I have some exercises I want you to do. They are mental exercises, so you can do them at any time. They will aid you in strengthening your bond with your wolf and get him to submit more readily to you. It was part of most Alpha courses in the old days. I’m not sure if they do them now, but all Beta’s are taught it, so they can help their Alpha.’ Jonathon grins softly at me, and before I realised it, I had given my agreement to Jonathon realising me and I felt hopeful.

A knock on the door, has me looking over at it, hoping it is Madison so I can apologise and explain.

To my disappointment, it was Ryan.

‘She has locked the door to the monitoring room and refuses to let anyone in, even Gerome can’t get in.’ Ryan reports, looking at me with anger.
