The Wannabe Warrior -
Chapter 116
Zane POV
‘Zane, you piece of lowlife, how dare you hurt such a sweet girl, you should be ashamed of yourself.’ Ryan growled, and I understood why he was so protective of Madison. She had rescued him from the hands of the advisor, and by certain torture, he had pledged his life to her, and I guess anything I did, would have him on my back, and I don’t blame him. I was so stupid, and I needed to get that training started with Jonathon, before my wolf successfully took control at a bad moment and scared our mate even more.
‘Get in line Ryan, we all want a piece of Zane after what he did in the dining hall.’ Growls Mitch, it seems my mate has some pretty strong people looking after her back, even if it is against her mate. But I deserve their anger, I did something so stupid, and I can’t blame it all on my wolf.
‘Easy now.’ Dad said as he glared at me.
‘He has lost control over his wolf. It is a common occurrence when a relationship has not had a bonding time, especially when it is an Alpha male and his first mate. It is good to spend a whole week with your mate to allow two things to happen. One is building a closer bond with your mate, and the other is so the wolf’s side can adjust and make his claim too. Zane and Madison have hardly had a normal start to their relationship and it does not look like it will change anytime soon. Maybe once all is settled, they will get the chance to be together and the wolf has the bonding it seems to be craving.’ Jonathon said, the room listening intently to him, and I am grateful he has my back, well sort of, I am sure he is seething inside, because it is his daughter he watched get hurt.
‘What is the plan then, we can’t leave her holed up in the monitoring room?’ Asked Ryan, he is not handling the protector well when it is against one of his own, one of whom he respects and that respect is being tested.
‘She will be fine in there. It is most likely the best place at the moment. It will keep her mind busy while she sorts out her fear and anger, and if she replaces something, that will make her even better. In the meantime, Zane will come with me and let’s start that training I was talking about.’ Jonathon replied. He is a really good Beta. I am impressed with his ability to be calm and have an understanding of the situation. No wonder Daniel survived, with Jonathon by his side, he had some real fine advice and a trusted friend, both suffering together.
We leave dad’s office and head down the hall. I am following Jonathan and am surprised he is headed to the monitoring room.
‘We can train here, while we wait for her to open the door. I am not leaving till I see her, and if that takes all night, so be it.’ Jonathon pulls out a chair, and sits down. He nods to the other chair and waits for me to sit down.
‘Close your eyes and replace your wolf.’ He speaks to me in a soft kind voice, guiding me through the process he wants me to do.
‘Once you have his attention, you need to make sure you keep it, as your mate is your most common goal at the moment, use her as your bait to keep his attention. Every time he strays away from you, pull him back with thoughts of your mate. Keep doing this over and over again, makes him tired and want to sleep. Keep doing this for now, I will give you another step once you have mastered him with this one.’ Jonathon sits back in the chair and closes his eyes, and it did not take long for him to fall into a light sleep. I doubt he will fall into a deep sleep until he has seen Madison.
I worked on the technique Jonathon had advised me to do, and my poor wolf was struggling. I didn’t want to stop until I had had enough, so every time my wolf started to drift his attention away from me, I pulled him back. It was working, he was snapping back at me quicker each time.
Not sure how long we had been in that room, I was deep in thought with my wolf, though I think I may have napped along the way. When dad came walking into the room, Jonathon was on his feet before dad even entered the room. His alertness astounded me, he appeared to be sleeping, yet was up before the door opened. I, however, was a little bit slower than he was, and I hate to admit I did not even hear dad approach, so much for me being the so-called stronger one of the two of us, I think I am sadly lacking in many ways, and being with Jonathon is showing me just how much more I need to learn, and he has not really even tried yet.
Dad knocked on the door, and I was shocked when it opened and Madison stood on the other side.
Jonathon pushed dad aside and pulled her into a hug, he talked to her soothingly and rubbed her back and I was green with envy, that it was not me holding her, soothing her, when he released her. I wanted to pull her into my arms, but she turned away and headed back into the room.
She did not even glance in my direction, and I felt hurt by her snub.
I followed dad and Jonathon into the room and watched as Madison pulled a computer screen over for us to see.
On the screen were the names of many who had betrayed us, and three names I was shocked to see.
They were the elders we are supposed to trust. I am glad, however, to notice they are not in dad’s inner circle of trusted elders.
Once dad and Jonathon had finished looking, dad ordered us to bed, and I was glad about that. I was exhausted.
Madison walked out of the room in front of me, switching the light off along the way.
I followed her to our room and watched her make a bed on the sofa, and my heart broke just a little bit more as my mate snubbed me.
I climb into bed with a heavy heart and wonder how I can fix this.
After some tossing and turning, I eventually fell asleep.
