The Wannabe Warrior -
Chapter 115
Madison POV
My tears eventually dried up, as I concentrated on my task, blocking out all thoughts of my mate or of those trying to talk to me in mind-link or banging at the door.
I slowly became absorbed in my work and the world around me faded away, until a song came on my headphones.
A soft melody that brought back good memories of my mother, and fresh tears found their way down my cheeks again, but for a whole different reason, I missed mum. Of what little I can remember. I remember, except when I attended school, I was always with her, riding on her wolf’s back, as we checked for new tracks on the ground and small broken twigs or leaves and scents in the forest and identifying what could have made the trails we were following, how to hide my scent from others and lots of different little things, that I had taken for granted over time, like how she taught me to cook pancakes, and waffles, make scrambled eggs. Mum was always smiling and singing little melodies to keep me happy, having me join in with my childish singing voice. I cannot remember her ever having to scold me or discipline me in any way, not because I was a good girl all the time, but when I made a mistake, she would laugh and giggle with me, then tickle me or make the mistake fun, and then. would ask me if I learnt a lesson from my mistake, always making me think for myself and come up with conclusions on my own, it was as if she knew she had little time to be with me and she crammed as much learning as she could in the short time she had with me.
It was during this reminiscing time, that I got a break through, and the data that had been password protected opened up and gave me a shock, there on the screen in front of me.
Glaring at me, were the names of packs and pack members that were with him to remove the king from the throne. This proved it was not only Clarence on the list, and he was not the person who started all this trouble. The information in front of me shows it was the three Elders that were the ones to start up the campaign to remove the king and put someone else in his place.
‘Ezekiel?’ I called urgently through the mind link, excited by my break through and sad that it told us about a more complex issue.
‘Madison, it is three o’clock in the morning, where are you?’ he replied sleepily.
‘Sorry, I forgot the time.’ I said, embarrassed, not knowing how much time had passed.
‘Are you still in the monitoring room?’ he asked incredulously.
‘Yes.’ I said, still opening more spreadsheets that were attached to the password-protected file.
‘Need me to come down now?’ he asked, still groggy.
‘Did you ask Elder Emery or Elder MacMasters, to assist in the pack investigation?’ I asked instead of answering his question.
‘No, they are not in my group of trusted people, they were always a little off to me, though I could never pinpoint why I felt that way. Why, what have you found?’ it sounded like I had gained his attention.
‘You sure you want to know now and not in the morning once you have had some sleep?’ I asked, feeling bad for waking him up.
‘You have my interest now; I am coming down.’ He says and closes the mind link.
Less than five minutes later, I heard the banging on the door, and remember, I had locked it and moved to open it up.
There on the other side of the door is not only Ezekiel, but Zane and my dad.
Ezekiel went to walk in, but dad pushed him aside and rushed over to me and swooped me up into his arms.
‘Dad, why are you not in bed with your new mate Cecilia?’ I am shocked he was outside the door.
‘Not before I could hold my baby girl and know she was okay, you looked really shaken at dinner and you did not get to eat much. I am concerned, you can’t blame your dad for wanting to see his baby girl, okay.’ Dad said with such warmth and love, you can’t help but melt in his strong arms and relax in his love.
‘Thanks dad, I appreciate your love and need to make sure I am fine. Are you going to go to bed and cuddle up to Cecilia or stay here and see the disturbing news I have called Ezekiel down here for?’ I asked as I pulled back from dad’s embrace.
‘Might as well stay and see what you have found.’ Dad said as he headed to the computer I was working on and I turned to him, giving Zane none of my attention. I was not ready to talk to him yet. I still had issues with how he treated me and I was not going to address them in front of others.
‘So, Madison, what have you found?’ Ezekiel asked as he sat on a stool close by.
‘I think you should all sit for this one.’ I said as I walked over to the computer and started to open up the spreadsheet.
‘That bad? Madison.’ Dad asked, sitting by Ezekiel.
‘Yes, it is that bad, and opens a lot more questions.’ I said and turned the screen around for dad and Ezekiel to see and I noticed Zane had leaned forward to look too.
Dad whistles, and Ezekiel growls and Zane just sits with his mouth open.
‘I think we can safely say we have truly found the one behind all of this; we need the other Elders here to see this. Can you print it out, I don’t trust not being hacked by someone.’ Ezekiel says as he looks at the list.
‘There are a lot of pages here. Would you like me to print the names and put the rest on our inner office computer, make a spreadsheet on the holograph ready for the Elders to see. I can take my laptop into the outer meeting room and display it in that room, get any you trust to come and give opinions.’ I suggest as I look at over one hundred pages to print.
‘Do it, later on in the morning, for now go and get some sleep, all of you.’ Ezekiel commanded and walked out the door, heading back to his own bed.
I grabbed my laptop. I had sent all the information to it, and was making a spreadsheet for the holograph, when Ezekiel arrived and the thumb drive. I then shut the computers I was working on and turned to leave. Standing there waiting for me to finish was Zane.
‘I don’t wish to talk to you yet, give me some space.’ I pleaded as I walked past him and out the door.
Zane silently followed me to our room and waited by the door. I grabbed a pillow and a blanket and made a bed on the sofa, and laid down.
I heard Zane sigh and watched him go to bed and strip off his clothes to his boxers and climb into bed. I noticed him toss and turn a while, but for how long I could not say, as sleep found me and sweet oblivion took over.
