Chapter 118

Zane POV

The first thing I noticed when I woke up was the empty sofa and no sounds from the bathroom, telling me my mate was not there in the bedroom. My heart plummeted, saddened that she was gone already.

Climbing out of bed, I grabbed my phone and had to do a second look in disbelief. It was four o’clock in the afternoon. Of course, my mate is still not in bed. I can hardly believe I managed to get some sleep. It was a rough night, but there was some sleep and I did feel a little better.

Showering quickly, I rushed out the door, hoping to replace my mate and to apologise for my behaviour yesterday.

I almost bumped into Mary as she came out of the kitchen with a plate of sandwiches in hand.

‘Hi Mary, have you seen Madison?’ I asked pleasantly, eyeing the sandwiches she was carrying.

‘Not since lunchtime, are you headed to Alpha’s office?’ she asked, smiling happily. She is such a lovely person, I don’t think I have ever seen her angry.

‘Yes.’ I said, as I started to turn towards that hallway his office was in.

‘Here, take these with you. Alpha asked for some, he was a little peckish.’ I took the offered plate and headed to dad’s office.

He was alone, going over some paperwork, he was preparing for the Elder’s visit tomorrow.

‘Hey, dad.’ I spoke softly as I walked in.

He lifted his head up and smiled at me, then looked at the plate of food and his smile grew even more.

‘Come bring those to me. I am starving, and I can’t wait for dinner.’ Dad said with a grin.

I gave him the plate and my stomach decided to growl.

‘You had better take one too, you sound like you have not eaten yet.’ he made it like a statement and not a question, but then my stomach growled again and I could not deny I had yet to eat.

‘I just woke up, and was looking for Madison before I ate. Have you seen her?’ I asked hopefully, eyeing the sandwiches dad now had on his desk..

‘They are having a lady’s day today. Madison took Lucy, Addison and Cecilia to the Deep Earth pack, so Lucy and Cecilia could visit their parents and take some left-over food with them.’ He replied before sinking his teeth into a sandwich.

I was standing on the other side of his desk and I have no idea how I lost control, but suddenly I was so filled with such rage, that I kicked a chair across the room and let out an almighty growl, as my wolf took over control.

Dad stood up faster than I thought possible and grabbed me by the throat, he twisted my head so I was eye to eye.

‘Blaze! Give back control to Zane. NOW.’ He commanded in a fierce angry growl.

Dad squeezed my throat, threateningly, and Blaze gave one weaker growl, before sinking back into the back of my mind.

Dad released me and I dropped to the floor on my hands and knees, panting as I calmed down and wondered what the heck had just happened. This had never happened before, not even when I first gained my wolf and was learning to cohabitate together in my body.

‘You have control now son?’ dad asked softly with a sympathetic tone.

I coughed a few times, and forced myself to stand back up and look at my father in the eye.

‘Yeah, Blaze has gone to the back of my mind.’ I spoke hoarsely.

‘You know you are going to have to do something about your control before you see Madison again, you can’t risk doing something stupid. Blaze has lost his ability to control his rage. I think the longer the two of you are apart the harder it is going to be for Blaze, but at the same time, unless you get control of Blaze, I suggest you don’t see Madison. You are in a bind, if you don’t see her, Blaze will get crazy and if you do, he might lose control and take her forcefully and you will just be along for the ride. I think you need to go and spend more time with Jonathon before you see her again, get that mutt under control, and go get something to eat first.’ He adds as he returns to his seat and grabs the sandwich he had started to eat.

‘Yes, dad.’ I said sadly, as I picked up the chair. I had kicked across the room and straightened up the mess I made.

I noticed dad’s eyes were glazed over and he was mind-linking to someone, so I waited hoping he needed me for something else. I dreaded having to replace Jonathon and explain what I had just done.

He closes the computer down and looks up at me, still in the room.

‘Here have my sandwiches, I have to go.’ He pushes the plate towards me and grabs the one he was eating and stuffs the last of it in his mouth.

Grabbing the other sandwich, I ask, ‘Where are you off to?’

‘Madison has asked me to visit the Deep Earth Pack. Most likely stay the night with the ladies, it is going to be too late for them to return tonight.’

‘What is going on dad?’ I pushed Blaze back as he was starting to come forward and asked him to let me handle it.

‘Don’t know, she just said to come and I am going, it will be good for me to have a break from all of this too, you know?’

I nodded, I understood, this had been a hard time for all of us, and I don’t deny dad needed a break too. I have seen how tired he has been getting lately and that can’t be good.

‘Go dad, relax and have some fun, and give my love to the ladies.’ I wanted to say Madison, but I guessed he would know what I meant.

‘I will now go and see Jonathon and get some help.’ He pushed me out the office door and headed to the side entrance, where he would shift and run to see Madison. I couldn’t help but feel a little jealous and yearned to join him on the run to see my mate.

I felt Blaze was in agreement with that thought and I struggled to keep him under control and I felt a glimmer of fear at the thought of losing control and being like many rogues out there, never returning to their human self, and knew I had to replace Jonaton and get some help before it was too late.
