Madison POV

I worked with Alex for an hour, going over his diorama and fixing things in aboveground areas they had not been to, he was easy to work with and he listened to me when I spoke and made suggestions. He was a really good Alpha and I couldn’t help but be impressed.

He had invited a couple of ranked men into the room, and they, too, were interested in all I could contribute to the information on the table.

Their tunnel system was amazing and the size of it was beyond my imagination. They went deep into the ground, where you would consider it to be too deep for air to be breathable, but the air flow in the tunnels was extraordinary. They had over a thousand years of experience, and that showed, with the knowledge of what tunnels to open at different times, to allow the air to travel down, they had long ducts going below from certain tunnels, made just for air flow and are not used for any other purpose but to keep air circulating cleanly, they had a maintenance in place, the tunnels for air flow was checked monthly, looking for any sign of weakness, they could not afford one of the air tunnels to collapse.

Ezekiel arrived and was brought straight into the room that held the diorama.

After his warm greetings and agreement that he would love something to eat, he approached the table and stood staring at it for a long while. Food was given to him and he accepted it with thanks and stood eating as he continued to look at the diorama, still saying nothing as he looked, and I could see ideas and questions flowing through his mind, but yet to voice them.

I grabbed some food too and talked softly with Alex as we waited for Ezekiel to finish his perusal.

‘This is interesting, and I can see that Madison has added a little to it. These lines, I presume, are tunnels. I recognise the packs in red, but what are the purple blobs around the place?’ Ezekiel asked after he finished eating.

‘Packs bases.’ Alex said quietly.

‘Ezekiel, I asked you here, because, well, as you can see, they have many packs, all around the country and even other countries, so all over the world, not just here, and they have a beef with the Dark River pack. Alpha Zakary will be here soon. His pack is the one that is near the Dark River pack, and anything we do would have the deepest effect on them. Whenever happens. They want permission to wipe them out. I agree with them, they had not done anything previously, because they did not know enough of the situations above ground and feared if they wiped them out, they would have repercussions that could impact all the deep earth packs.’ I said, trying to get Ezekiel on board and quickly.

‘What about the woman and children?’ I was not surprised he asked the same questions as me.

‘All, sire.’ I said with conviction.

He turned and stared at me for a long moment before he sighed and nodded his head.

‘This is why you need me here now? Before the Elders get involved, this way, can we keep it between us in this room?’ I added, looking at him with hope. Ezekiel looked at me with a half-smile and a twinkle in his eyes. I hoped that was a good sign.

‘Yes, from what I understand, The Dark River pack has been bad for a long time, and the Deep Earth pack up there was about to attack them anyway. They are at the end of their patience, but if you give them your blessing to attack and clean that vermin off the face of the earth, a lot of people will be happy. I asked about the woman and children and was reminded of revenge. If I could hold on to so much anger and hurt needing revenge, think of a group holding the need. If Zakary’s pack go in at night, wipe them out, and we arrive a few hours later to do the burials, we can blame the rogues after all the deaths that have happened down here.’ I suggest with enthusiasm.

‘Alex, when is your man going to be here? That is a three-hour trip?’

‘On land maybe, but he should be here any second, it is an hour underground.’ Alex says with mirth.

Just as Alex said that, a tall muscular man entered the room.

‘Greetings Alex.’ The man said cheerily.

‘Greeting Zakary.’ Alex responds and they grip right arm to right arm and give a pat on each other’s back. I giggle at the greeting.

Zakary whips his head at me, and eyes me with a smile.

‘You must be Madison, the woman I have heard a lot about lately?’ his eyes twinkled with an unknown mirth, as if he had been sharing a joke with Alex and I was part of the joke, but not in an unkind way.

‘That I am, sir, welcome to our little parlay. This is Alpha king Ezekiel.’ I introduced Ezekiel, and to my surprise, when I held out my hand to give him a handshake, he slid his hand onto my right arm and in surprise I did the only thing I thought I should and grasped Zakary’s right and he pulled me to him and patted my back like he had Alex and he roared out with laughter as I pat his back too, wondering what just happened, and was grateful I had not done anything embarrassing.

Then he greets Ezekiel in that same manner.

‘Greeting Ezekiel.’ Zakary grins at Ezekiel.

‘Greetings Zakary. Let’s get down to business, shall we? It seems most of our discussion has already been concluded and just some agreement and timing to be put in place.’ Ezekiel walks back to the table and looks down at the area in question.

Zakary and Ezekiel both perused the table and quickly started chatting about strategy and cover-ups. I listened closely, my war instincts following every word and agreeing so far with what they were saying, about two hours later, there was a knock at the door. Alex opened it.

‘Dinner is being served.’ The lovely little boy said and bared his neck and ran away. I giggled and looked up at Ezekiel.

‘Come, we can talk later, let’s get these bellies filled, maybe stay the night and discuss the final details in the morning. Can we go and have some great food, good company and some cheerful conversation?’ I suggested as I started to walk to the door.

‘Great idea, Alex! lead the way.’ Ezekiel said, and followed his arm through mine and led me out of the room and we followed Alex and Zakary down the tunnel and towards the smell of fine cuisine, that has my mouthwatering from the aroma.
