The Wannabe Warrior
Chapter 124

Madison POV

A room with no windows made it harder to discern the time of day. Have I slept all night or only a few hours? I struggled out of bed and over to the dressing table to replace my phone. It was five am. I slept in. I am usually up at four. I blame sleeping underground, where there is basically no wind, rain, sun or moon, which meant no birds singing the rising of the sun, no animal sound, no rustling of the trees, it was earie feeling, and one I am not sure I want to get used to. Betsy my wolf agreed with me, she did not like it underground, she longed to feel the moon and the sun on her fur. I promised her I would shift and run back to the packhouse, so she could have the snow under her paws and complain all the way about how cold the snow is. I chuckled at her.

I found my way to where everyone else was, the smell of food and sound of voices led me straight to them. My stomach told me it was food time and I was glad to see Addison, Ceclia and Lucy all up and eating. That meant I did not have to go chasing them. When it was time to go, I greeted them as I passed them by on my way to grab some food.

Ezekiel and Zakary were just a little bit further down and a chair was vacant, so I took the liberty of taking a seat. Both Alpha’s rose their heads to look at who dared to sit with them and then smiled when they saw it was just me.

‘Morning Madison, sleep well? Zakary asked politely.

‘Too well, I over slept for an hour.’ I complained, as I sat down beside Ezekiel and grabbed a fork from the table.

‘It is disturbingly quiet down here, I have to admit, I too found I had slept past my usual time, because of the lack of sound.’ Ezekiel agreed with me.

‘Zakary, do you have enough communicators? If not, I can get some more brought here and we can either send them to you through the tunnels or have Alex have someone take them or you can have someone come to us.’ I suggested.

‘We have plenty, thank you. I will give the leaders one each and they can pass on any relevant information as it comes to hand.’ Zakary was so polite; it was opposite to what I am used to, most Alpha’s just bark what they want and grunt back agreement, to actually say thank you? Is rare. Even Ezekiel does not always say thanks.

‘Sounds like we have a plan. You remember how to put them on and then to switch them on when you need to communicate? I asked him happy to show him again.

‘Oh, yes, they are very simple to use, quite a great idea. Who made them?’ he asked

‘Our Madison, is the brains behind them, though the magnets to hold them on the ear for shifting purposes was Zane’s idea.’ Ezekiel spoke before I could.

‘Your mate thought of the magnets?’ he asked incredulously.

‘You make it sound like it was a shock that my mate could come up with ideas?’ I said, looking at him with a little chuckle.

‘No, I, well, um.’ I burst out into laughter and Ezekiel joined me and a few moments later others joined in even though they had no idea what we were laughing at.

‘I am happy to listen to anyone’s ideas. I created the communicators and was stumped with how to keep them on the body when shifting about. Zane suggested the magnets and Gerome put them together. We have fifty-two radio waves we can use, each just a little higher in range, and one that will get all the mics to hear an alert. Just ask Gerome to put the mics to be on everyone and he will make the switch from base, and everyone will hear what the announcement is.’ I conclude as I tuck into my food.

‘Our Madison, is a war chief, security worker and computer expert. She is the top female warrior and the top tracker. She is a marvel. We are lucky to have her. She has found solutions to so many issues. I am not boasting because she is my daughter-in-law, it is a fact.’ Ezekiel speaks with great love and affection; you would think I had been in his pack like forever.

‘I heard about your tracking skills, Anton could not stop boasting about how great you were, that you can replace our kind, even with our scent cloaking.’ Zakary looks at me with scepticism.

‘You doubt Madison’s skills?’ Ezekiel asked, surprised.

‘Yeah, I do, I have never met a person who could track someone with no scent or leave any foot prints.’ Zakary shrugs as he says this.

‘Well, the only way to prove it is to show you. Pick any test you like, and Madison will pass it.’ Ezekiel said, with great confidence. They are talking about me as if I am not sitting right here, and that pisses me off a great lot.
