The Wannabe Warrior -
Chapter 123
Madison POV
We were in the meeting. I was listening to the men just chatting. No real strategy had been made yet, just logistics and men, the how and when. We had not reached any real conclusions.
When I got a strong pain in my chest, I took a deep breath and shook it off, and tried to concentrate on the meeting, and a little later, I grabbed my shoulder and g*****d, and moved my hand away expecting b***d, and that was when I realised my mate was in a fight, one that was serious, I knew I could not mind link him, as it would distract him and put him in danger.
‘Dad.’ I mind linked him.
‘Sweetheart.’ I heard his voice soft, but a hint of concern.
‘Zane is in pain; he is fighting someone?’ I informed him, hoping he would have answers, and understanding what I was feeling, as he felt mum’s imminent death years ago and it never left his memory. I just hoped, now he had moved on with a new mate, that the memory would be less painful.
‘He is in hospital, out cold, don’t worry, he is in good hands.’ dad came back to me about him, well, as much as he was prepared to share over the link.
Though it is good to know he is no longer out fighting, it does make me wonder who he was fighting. I had not heard we had any new rogue issues.
‘Who was he fighting?’ I asked, not able to contain the unknowing.
‘No one, he was training and it got out of hand.’ Dad answered, but I could feel there was more to it, but was not in a place to push for answers.
‘Stay safe dad, we will be back tomorrow morning.’ I informed him before closing the link.
‘Ezekiel, we will hold off any attack, until next week, to give you time to get the Elders on board with the other traitors. It seems that the above ground has a lot of issues. We are so glad we are from the underground and have no such problems.’ Zakary said cheerfully, and I wondered if he had something going on in the underground. My wolf senses. Could feel that something is not right. Could the underground have issues like we do? But invading each other’s pack area would be a lot more difficult, it is not like someone can sneak up to you in the tunnels. I have seen the type of security they have, and though the rogues hit them, by surprise, that was at the cave mouth and not in the tunnels, the moment they got in the tunnels, they stated to collapse tunnels to stop their invasion going deeper. No, something else is going on.
Why do I feel Zakary is up to something? I wonder if they want the packlands, so they can have freer hunting, but still live underground. The Dark River pack would have killed any outsider, making Zakary’s pack always on alert. But for them to have the pack land, they would need to move some of their pack above ground to live, so the land is not taken by some other rival pack thinking that the area was free for the taking.
Later, I will need to address this with Ezekiel. Maybe we can get the underground packs to take over the areas where we have the traitor packs. We are looking for Alphas to take over. I wonder if they would be prepared to come to some arrangement, and come out of seclusion? I think that needs to be discussed at a later date, when we are back at the packhouse and can talk between just us. Not even the Elders needed to be involved with this decision. We did have some elders on the way to take over some packs, but had to divert them to us. The retired Alpha’s will do the job for now. It was nice that we have some that are still okay with helping out. Their experience was invaluable.
OH, I wonder if the underground has problems with housing, overcrowding. They have so many people. I am sure if that is the case, they would have Alpha sons that would take over those positions, and make them a separate above ground pack alliance to the underground pack. Being family would be less likely to have issues, and that could be the main issue. Too many Alpha level men underground, making things a little uncomfortable.
Ideas kept filling my head and I had to tell myself off and keep the mission on hand and that was the removal of the Dark River Park.
After a lot of ideas were thrown into the mix, it was decided that Zakary would attack at midnight. In a week’s time, we would get warriors up in that area to assist in the above-ground attacks, and once all removed, the burning of the bodies and clearing out the buildings, we have no idea what to expect yet, as we have not been about to contact the Dark River Pack Alpha, all communication seems to have been lost three days ago, and Zakary has not allowed any of his men to go investigate, because of the troubles they have had in the past.
Ezekiel and I will be joining the group that is going. Gerome will monitor the communicators. Alex gave Zakary the ones they had, but ended up not needing them. I had suggested we send some of our men through the tunnels to aid his men, but Zakary assured us that it was not necessary and they would make sure to have something green showing so they wouldn’t attack his men, though we could smell the difference. In the heat of battle, you do not always pay attention to someone’s scent. You just see a fight and jump in if a person you do know is under attack, though I still replace it hard to understand why one would not use all their senses when fighting? Surely you would know if more foes were coming or if they were reinforcements.
The meeting was closed just before midnight, and we were shown to the rooms we were assigned for the night. Even Zakary stayed for the night and would see us off in the morning.
