The Wannabe Warrior
Chapter 147

Zane and Madison POV (Alternating between the two)

Madison POV

Looking out at the forest, I noticed a lot of movement and I mind-linked Mitch to prepare as we were about to be attacked, to be careful. So far, I could see over thirty men coming out of the forest, not far from the cell doors.

I saw Mitch and Zakary rush out of the cells and lots of Blue River warriors also came out of the cell doors and more came out of the pack house. I saw Zakary head to the other side of the forest, where some of his men were coming out of the forest from that side, and he joined them and disappeared into the forest, and I wondered where he was going to go, hopefully blend in and come behind these men coming out of the forest.

Up here, watching the fighting below. It made me nervous and angry. I went to my bag and pulled out the blow dart gun and darts and headed to the balcony.

With the darts at the ready, I sat down at the edge and waited for some of the enemy to get close enough for me to try and hit some.

I saw many of the attackers drop to the floor and some of Zakary’s men came from behind them and brought down some more, and the momentum seemed to shift to our advantage, but I was not satisfied yet. I had not seen Emery and wondered where he was at.

Zane POV

We decided to take a break from trying to work out what else could go wrong, and spend the day with family.

Dad and his new mate Lucy, Jonathan and his new mate Cecilia and I spent the day in the lounge room, watching movies and eating popcorn and just generally doing little. When we had enough of the movies, we went to the games room and played games and had other younger members come and join us. Mary had finger food made and we had like a little party in the games room. More and more young people came and joined in the fun and by the time dinner was due, we had so many in the games room playing and laughing, that when Mary came in grumpy and demanding, we all went and ate in the dining room. It was very funny.

Mary had continued the fun theme and had made pies and cakes and more junk food, lots of fizzy drinks, and we just generally enjoyed the dinner. Some girls got on the piano and guitar and sang songs and ditties, having the young ones join in, you could see the light in dad’s eyes sparkling and he enjoyed the night.

All was going really well, until we got a mind-link from Mitch, that they were under attack, and we rushed to the monitoring room, to see if they had put on the communicators.

It was a shock. We needed more information on what was happening, who was attacking them and how many and where Madison was? I had lots of questions and stuck there waiting to hear from someone who could update us. It was the hardest time I have had in ages. Dad was pacing up and down from the monitor to the door and back again and Jonathon was standing behind Gerome, waiting for some clue as to what was happening.

Madison POV

After about five minutes of waiting, the first few made it close enough to the packhouse for me to send some darts down towards them. I managed to hit about four of them, but more seemed to be coming out of the forest faster now, and I wondered where they were all come from, and still no sign of Emery.

More and more of the attackers were dead or on the floor out cold. I hit more and more of them and watched some of the Blue River warriors hit the floor and I hoped that they were not dead. It made my heart hurt to see friends fall to the attackers, but there were more attackers on the floor than our guys. Or so it seemed to me from up here.

When I thought the attackers who kept coming out of the forest would overtake us, a large group of Zakary’s pack arrived and the momentum changed again, and I was not sure anymore who was who from up here, there was so many men out there fighting and I had to stop sending darts down unless I could tell for sure they were not one of ours.

Then I heard my door being hit hard, blow after blow, and knew that it was the attackers and had to move quickly away from the balcony and get ready for the door to be broken down. I put the darts on the bedside table, grabbed two communicators and placed one in my ear and one in my jeans pocket. I mind-linked Mitch and told him of the photo album and paperwork in my bedroom and of the box I had put in the baggage compartment on the bus, and that he had to get them to Ezekiel urgently.

‘Madison, can you jump over the balcony, I am close, I can come to you, oh s**t, cancel that, three men are scaling the wall to your room, stay alive, whatever happens, stay alive, Madison.’ And our link broke as the door burst open at the same time the men climbed over the balcony and entered.

‘Hello Madison, we have been looking forward to meeting you.’ Emery said as he moved forward into the room with three large men with him and, before I could answer, the men who had scaled the wall, rushed up behind me, at the same time as the three at the door also rushed at me, I hardly had a chance to think of how I was going to get out of this one, when I felt a jab in my arm and everything went dark.
