The Wannabe Warrior
Chapter 17

Zane POV

‘That girl has vision and foresight, like a war planner, and I won’t question it. A true tracker that one.’ Mitch says, mumbling something to himself, and chuckling at a joke he only understood.

‘Anyway, she asked questions about the Advisor and the Northern Pack, if she is thinking what I think she is thinking, we have some big troubles ahead, that have slowly grown momentum as the years have gone by.’ Mitch frowns now, as he keeps looking at the diorama model.

‘Anything else that has made you believe Madison is on to something and not just because of her tracker mind and discernment? Something that makes it undeniable? Any proof?’ I asked, not so much doubting my mate, but needing to prove to the elders or other pack members that they may dispute our opinion.

‘When Madison first walked into the room, she sniffed around the room, then signalled to be quiet.’ Mitch recalled thoughtfully, his face looking blank and it was hard to see what was going on in his mind.

‘Did you know she has an app on her phone that replaces bugs in the room? Anyway, she found a number of bugs and put them in the tin.’ Mitch said with awe as he pointed to the biscuit tin on the table with the coffee pot and cups we had around for long periods of being in this room.

‘The first words she said was to ask if we have had a rogue in here, somehow, I think she believes that a rogue has been in here, or someone associated with them.’ Dad says, wondering how they could have missed it if that was so.

‘Did she say that?’ I asked, still unsure who could have been there that is associated with rogues, and to ask about the advisor and the Northern pack at the same time, had me thinking, then understanding, that Mitch and dad may think that the advisor was the link between the rogues and the Northern Pack.

‘Madison, is good. The only thing she asked, was if we could make a few warrior bus detours and for them to go around the cave section. You know, Zane. If I am reading Madison right, what Madison might be thinking, is the Advisor may have said the rogues are in the north waiting for the pass to open, to take our eyes off the cave system. We have been so busy in that area because of his suggestion, that we have not really investigated the cave system ourselves. It makes sense when you look at it, but I would never have guessed the Advisor, only us in this room know about this and I would like it to stay that way for now.’ Dad said with caution and clarifying what I assumed a moment ago.

‘We have asked Gerome to check all the phones, even my mobile phone and Mitch’s, and I think we should get yours checked too, plus Madison had left her phone with me, so Gerome can go around the pack-house and grounds looking for bugs and remove them. That girl has us jumping at our shadows, but with good cause, with the number of bugs found so far, scares me. She has some devices in her bag upstairs in her room, or should I say your room, and when she returns, she will give them to Gerome and show him how they work. Apparently, they interfere with the bugs’ ability to pick up clear signals, and give them nothing but static. I like this girl more and more, as I get to hear and see what she is capable of. Good thing she is on our side and that Alpha was so willing to share her with us.’ Alpha says with gusto and a proud look on his face as he speaks of my Madison.

‘Where have you sent her, Mitch?’ looking at the diorama with eagerness.

‘Just got her to run the small perimeter, so she can see the inner ring we are protecting. Tomorrow we shall start with a larger area, here, here and over here. I feel that she will want to go to the cave area, so we may have to change my plans to suit hers. She does seem to be the expert and is not afraid to show us up with her expertise.’ Mitch chuckles quietly.

‘Good, nowhere near any sighted rogues then.’ I sighed in relief.

‘No, but that isn’t to say, she will stick to where we have sent her, she may swing around in a circle and include this area and that area. And we both know sightings have been made there and there.’ Mitch concludes as he walks around the room and grabs a cup and fills it with coffee, taking a sip, and sighing, before returning to my dad’s side.

‘The more you tell me, the more I want to call her home and not let her out again.’ I grumbled as I looked at where Mitch had been pointing and I had to fight to keep my wolf from taking over and running after her as fast as he can go.

“Calm down”, I told my wolf, “Madison has been out there for hours now, no saying where she is exactly, so running off now will only tire us out? Then, what good would we be if we needed to do some fighting?’
