The Wannabe Warrior
Chapter 188

Madison POV

Breakfast was good.

I always enjoyed the company of the Blue River warriors. I have trained with them for years, they always know how to have fun and make me laugh, and at the moment that is what I all needed. They never treated me any differently after I mated with Zane. They have been down to earth and I don’t think I have ever had to worry when I have had to lead them in an attack or if out on patrol and they would follow my orders.

They are a great bunch of guys.

I waited for the Deep Earth leaders to arrive and join us.

I was still not sure if we were going out to check on Gladys, or working on more defences around the caves. Both were good for me. I hoped to get out of here and have a good look around.

So far I have not gone very far.

I did not pay much attention when I was in Zane’s arms and he carried me there and did a little help with the traps, and had a good look at the diorama, but that is not as good as getting out and having a look at the terrain.

The snow would likely make a big difference. I need to replace out what the weather is.

It is almost impossible to tell from down here, where the temperature rarely changes much.

Peggy and Zeek arrived with a group of men, all dressed to go outside, and I waited for Peggy to inform us of what was going on and not just assume because they looked like they were going out that they were, I had learnt that the hard way over the years, and dad pumped it into my brain, not to assume or take something for granted.

‘Zane, we are going to have a look at the pack-ground, get a better idea where they have troops housed and we would you like to accompany us?’ Zeek asked, and I looked at Peggy and knew she was letting Zeek play alpha again and I wondered how that worked, surely she must know how stupid it looked to me.

‘Sure, Madison had said she wanted to get out and about today, and the pack area sounds good to me.’ Zane answered and I watched Peggy smile at me. She respected my warrior knowledge and getting me out to see things from this perspective was a good tactic. Now we just need to hope we can get the information we need as well and then we will be ready to go and fight. I want that lady gone, she has been behind so many atrocities, and she needs to answer for all those innocent lives she has cast aside and killed mercilessly.

I don’t bother dressing up in cold weather gear. I will be changing into my wolf the moment we are out the door, as this is my best defence and heightened senses, my special tracker skills will be good here, and I am looking forward to letting my wolf out to run in the snow again. Besty agreed to stay in the white colour unless we are outside of the snow area.

Betsy was as excited as I was, to be getting out of there and hunting down that pack. This was her ideal element, and I could not wait to let her run and see what we could replace.

We all travelled quietly through a labyrinth of tunnels and ended up not too far from the packhouse. I could see it through the trees, the cave entrance was well hidden, and unless you knew it was there, it was almost impossible to see, a rock formation formed a natural optical illusion and they had put a rock door just inside the small entrance, with a locking mechanism, held the door in place and unless you knew how to release it, you would not get into the tunnels.

The wind was almost non-existence, and light snow fell gracefully down to the ground, making the scene before me picturesque, and beautiful, and safe, but I knew it was anything but safe, that did not stop me from feeling that way, and I enjoy what I was looking at, this country side was one I would not mind visiting when everything was over, I was not sure why, but something here called to me and my wolf, maybe it was the stories Zeek was telling of my mother, and I wanted to see where she had been and seen, what ever it was, one day I might come and investigate further.

Betsy took over after I took off my jeans and shirt and stuffed them behind a tree, in a white bag, hidden in the snow.

I took a few steps forward and more or less disappeared from view.

Zane would always know where I was due to our mate bond, but no one else would, you could be staring right at me and still not see me, I could blend in that well.

Sitting in the snow, out of everyone’s way, and waiting and listening to the chatter about what was going down, they had broken into groups and each would scout around the area and see what they could replace out.

‘Zane where is Madison?’ Zeek asked, looking around, and I smiled as his eyes glanced over where I was sitting and did not see or smell or sense me.

‘She is close by waiting for us to finish our instructions and then will move out with us.’ Zane answered, knowing exactly where I was, and I was sure some of the Blue River warriors had an idea too, they had seen me walk over here, but they were not going to inform Zeek of my where abouts.
