The Wannabe Warrior -
Chapter 191
Zane POV
No matter how hard I tried, I did not like leaving the pack like I had.
The guy gave me instructions on how to return, but it felt like I was deserting them and I did not like it one bit.
As I moved further away from the pack and the ones I left behind, the more it ate me up inside, and in the end I could not move any further away, the feeling of abandonment was just too strong.
The group of us had been gone about ten minutes into the cave and a thought came to me. Maybe Gerome can replace out if Peggy is in the room Madison was captive in?
‘Stop.’ I called out, and the group stopped and turned to look at me expectantly. None questioned why, they just accepted the call and waited for instructions. Madison looked at me as if she already knew what was going on in my mind, and had been waiting for me to react.
‘Let’s call Gerome, see if they have caught Peggy and put her in the room you were kept in.’ I suggested and Madison smiled at me as I said that, a look of relief in her eyes.
‘Gerome.’ I called, knowing he could hear me. Now, that I had turned the mic back on, I had turned it off, once I thought we were safe and did not think about turning it back on.
‘Speak.’ Gerome’s voice floated back. I knew he would be in his little space, never leaving that room for long.
‘Has there been any activity in the room that Madison was in? We have not yet seen Peggy or Zeek, they failed to return.’ I looked at Madison and could see she was as conflicted as I was that they failed to return and we were leaving. She felt the same way as I did. You don’t turn your back on allies, just like she went to save Ryan. Madison would have been conflicted about leaving, with missing people out there.
‘Let me check and get back to you.’ Gerome said, and now I had to wait for Gerome to go over the recordings. We all knew that those mics were left on when Madison left the room and Gerome would have left them being recorded, with the hope that something would be picked up. You just never know what might be heard when someone thinks they are safe from their ears.
‘Guys, I know we are supposed to return, but with Peggy and Zeek, both possibly being hostages now, I do not feel comfortable returning home, I feel like I am deserting them.’ I spoke out to the guys, they should know how I felt and I needed to know how they felt about this.
‘About time.’ One warrior spouted.
‘We thought you had turned gutless. Now you are mated.’ Said another.
‘We follow orders, even though they are stupid ones.’ Said another with a little annoyance in his voice.
Murmurs amongst the Blue River Warriors filtered around until one spoke out as spokesperson of the group.
‘I agree, we should never leave like this, and even though they have not exactly made us welcome with all those stupid games Zeek has been playing, I am sure, as I speak for all of us, that we would prefer to stay and see if we can rescue them, no way should anyone be left in the hands of that woman.’ One of the Blue River warriors spoke out and the rest nodded in agreement and it made me feel good that we were all in agreement.
‘Dad.’ I mind-linked dad, through a mind-link that Madison had created, so the Blue River warriors were included. I knew dad could make these, but I had no idea Madison could and I felt even more proud of my mate. If that was even possible, I guess I would be able to create them too once I am king, but I had never thought about asking dad if I could make them now, and if I needed some special training to create them.
‘Son.’ Dad was quick to reply, he must have been waiting for me to call, Gerome would have told him about my request.
‘We are not returning. I have talked about the situation with the Blue River warriors and we all agree we do not feel comfortable leaving, not knowing if Peggy and Zeek are in the hands of Gladys, we got to stay and see if we can do anything to assist them.’ I informed my father, ready to argue our case with him.
I heard dad chuckling in the mind-link and I frowned at that, what was so funny?
‘I was concerned when you accepted the order to return, with no argument, or counter of any kind. That is not what I had expected. I thought you would want to stay and assist as that is how I raised you, and now I am relieved to hear you are staying, though be careful, do not do anything stupid.’ Dad replied and I was shocked that he had expected me to stay there and help them.
‘Thanks dad.’ I replied, glad that I was on the right track at last, in dad’s eyes.
‘We shall send more men. Let me know how many. I am sure I can convince Alex to lend me one of his men to guide them through the tunnels.’ Dad suggested.
‘Get Gerome to keep you on our mic link, you will hear what is going on, and give us any feedback you feel I need.’ I suggested and I turned to move back towards the main pack area again.
We had not moved very far when Gerome called on the mic.
I called a stop again and waited for Gerome to fill us in.
‘Gladys had put Peggy in that room, she had been beaten, something about needing a code, and she was in a bad way.’ Gerome reported sounding slightly frustrated by all of this.
‘Thank you Gerome, let us know of any changes.’ I replied and I could see Madison was already making plans in her head.
