The Wannabe Warrior
Chapter 25

Madison POV

Zane and I walked up the stairs. I was exhausted, my body ached from all the running today and I need my bed now.

Entering the room, I let go of Zane’s hand and started stripping off my clothes, letting them just drop on the floor as I go, grab my phone and set the time for four am, climb in and snuggle down, I don’t want to think, just sleep, morning will come around too fast and I have a lot to cover over the next few days.

Soon I felt the bed dip and Zane climbed in behind me, he pulled me closer to him and the tingles ran up my back, making me giddy. I wiggled to get closer to the warmth of his body and enjoyed the tingles as they spread down to my core. I sighed in relief and sleep came quickly. I was too exhausted to fight the darkness and dropped into a dreamless sleep.

The tinkling of my phone alarm woke me way too early. I reluctantly climbed out of bed and quickly dressed. I decided to skip a shower. I did not want Zane to wake up, and sneaked out the room as quietly as I could, the door closed with a soft click and I turned and headed to the dining hall, where Gerome said he would meet me, before we got over the things he wanted me to do today.

Entering the dining hall, I saw Gerome seated, eating some bacon and eggs.

‘Morning Gerome.’ I said, as I grabbed a plate and placed bacon, sausage and tomatoes and mushrooms on the plate. I do like that they have this hot food available, this early in the morning.

‘Morning Madison, how was your night?’

‘Not long enough.’ I chuckled and put more bacon in my mouth.

‘We can discuss what I want done today, after we have eaten.’ He says softly and looks around the room. I could see his face relax after noticing no one else in the room.

‘Do you know how many more warriors are left to arrive here; we must be getting close to all of them? ‘ I asked, knowing this was a safe topic for where we are. I take a deep brief through my nose and notice a scent in the distance,

‘I mind linking Gerome, letting him know someone is down the hall, and that there is no change to the strength of the scent. I assume the person is listening.’

‘No, I have no idea, we have about half of them. I think that may have arrived.’ In my mind he says, the last of the warriors will arrive today.’

The smell down the hall suddenly starts to fade away, and I know they are leaving.

‘They have gone.’ I whispered to Gerome, who nodded and shovelled more food into his mouth, trying to look as casual as possible, as he took in what I had said and relaxed a little bit, feeling uncomfortable that someone might have been listening to us.

We finished our breakfast and headed to the other security room. I smell around to make sure no one is following us, before we enter the hallway and duck into the room quickly. If anyone came into this room, they would replace a small office, just a desk, with a computer on it and a telephone, and a cupboard on the right side of the room. Gerome hits a button and the cupboard moves and we enter the room behind. Once I am in the room, he clicks the cupboard closed behind us. We have a camera on the other side of the cupboard, so we can see if anyone enters the room after we have entered this part, and also to make sure, no one is in the room when we wish to leave.

The bench had a number of small cameras on them, and more bugging devices. I looked over to the table that holds lots of parts and noticed he had been busy making more cameras for this operation. We needed to make sure the camera could send a strong signal back to base and not have any lights showing the camera was working. Many cameras have a red light on display showing they are active. I had a prototype of one I had made that he could copy. It was very powerful and the image was good. It took me three years to make it, again, a school project, that I continued modifying, until I was happy with the result. I was an above-average student, and excelled in science and technology and chemistry. Both have come in handy by doing little tricks to help with the tracking and security of our home.

‘I need you to set up these cameras at the cave entrances, three per entrance, one for the cave entrance itself, the further it can go in the cave the better, so I guess it should be fairly low, but not too low to be noticed and the other two for left and right of the entrance, and if we have one that goes straight, I am not sure what you can do there, but will leave that to your discretion, as you know your ability better than anyone else and you never know you might be able to do, till you see the area and wave your Madison magic.’ He chuckles, trying to make light of this operation, knowing as well as I do, that it is risky and dangerous.

‘The batch of scent hiding mixture is finished. I will get all the warriors to spray themselves with it. It will last till it is washed off. Let’s hope for no rain.’ Snow had been forecast. I am not sure if the snow will wash away the spray, but I have every intention of taking a bottle with me, just in case it does, or someone falls in water. Can’t be too careful when heading into rogue infested area.

Gerome helped me place the cameras in a bag, and two extras, just in case one is faulty. It is the first time Gerome has put them together, but I have faith in him to have a majority working properly. I will take a small tool kit. I can tweak any camera if it needs to be.

We left the room and headed to replace the Alpha. He was in his office.

Gerome headed back to his room, to get his computers up and running ready for when I started up the cameras.

The Alpha escorts me outside, where my brother and the pack are waiting. These twenty warriors are now assigned to me, for when I go out tracking during this problem and in the future, as I have told them all, I will still want to get out and track, and do my warrior duties, even though I am the mate of the future Alpha King.
