The Wannabe Warrior -
Chapter 28
Zane POV
In dad’s office, I was chatting about the rogues and the groups of six doing some sort of perimeter, yet Gerome had not seen any return and enter the cave, only exit so far, maybe it was too large an area and they had not yet gone all the way around, and the patrol had only just started, not doing an all-night patrol. I was confused, and wondered why groups of six and the patrolling area. I can’t wait for all the cave entrances to be covered with cameras. I think when this is over, we can leave them there just to keep an eye on the caves. If these rogues can make themselves at home in them, so can others.
‘Dad, how did the interrogation go with the six rogues we have in the cells? Six rogues seem to be a common theme here. What do you think? Should we send some out to look over the area again? Maybe bringing the rogues back stopped a proper look around, and something might be in that area.’ I pondered the groups of six.
‘We did not get much information from them, they all had the same story, recruited for a special raid. That was coming up soon, but none knew where, when or who. Then they just up and died, it seemed they must have had some poison on them, but where they hid it is beyond me.’ Mitch answers for dad.
I headed to the dining hall with dad and Mitch and I ate a late lunch. The mood was as light hearted as I could be. My concern for my mate never left the back of my mind, knowing she was so close to those rogues.
I joined in with a laugh and some joking, with some warriors that came in to have a late lunch and wanted to discuss the patrol they had just completed. Dad said for them to eat first and come to the meeting room after they had finished and we had to discuss it there. The dining table is for eating and relaxing, and all the business had to be done elsewhere. The warriors chuckled at dad’s easy-going manner and seemed to relax.
This made me wonder what sort of Alpha they lived under.
I understood not all Alpha’s are easy to approach and only wanted prompt concise reporting.
Then, Dad dismissed them, he made sure the men understood, he appreciated the time and danger they put themselves in, and I found that it worked well for him.
I hoped I could be half the man my dad is.
In the meeting room, I looked at the screen on the wall and the diorama on the table, it looked so different to the one in our other room. I waited with dad and Mitch and Ryan, who had arrived just after I did, for the warriors to finish their lunch and report.
I would place the information given by them on the diorama, placing the different coloured dots as appropriate, and then Mitch would enter the information onto the computer here, then place the information into a separate spreadsheet.
We could access it from the other meeting room and not have to do a double entry.
The spreadsheet was protected and only those with permission could access the spreadsheet, though only dad, Mitch, Ryan, Gerome and myself, used the computer and had the password to access it, but dad wanted to be doubly sure no one could get that information, so he added an extra security link.
Gerome set up a little camera in there, so we could see anyone who may have attempted to use it, antibug dots that were placed around the room, and then later, as per Madison’s suggestion, removed them. Madison suggested we put the cameras in there, instead, and the lenses are a tiny little dot. Those lenses, that seemed to be part of the wall. I am happy about that, as no one should be in here without one of us, and we may catch someone trying to put a bug in the room, even with us here, thinking we may not notice an innocent act. Dad, Mitch, Gerome, Ryan and myself all have an app on our phones now that picks up any bug in the room. Fingers crossed someone will be stupid enough to attempt to bug the room.
We have set up this room for warriors, so everything said and seen is recorded in the room. I hoped someone would enter the room and snoop around. Dad said to not lock the room. I assumed he had the same thoughts as me.
The warriors arrived, greeted dad and then looked around the room, interested in the diorama.
‘Alpha, reporting no rogue sightings at the mine site.’ One gruff-looking warrior said.
‘Thank you, go shower and rest, we will send you out again tomorrow.’ Dad said.
After the warriors had left, Mitch asked the same question I was about to ask.
‘Which pack?’
‘Dark River Pack.’ Dad replied.
‘We need to send another team out there; something does not feel right.’ Mitch says, there had been sightings there every time our team went to the mint site. Pity we did not record how many rogues were sighted.
‘I would like to get a camera or two out there. Maybe we can send Madison tomorrow.’ Dad says
‘What about the caves?’ I asked, wondering how many more entrances needed to be covered.
‘We will have four entrances covered. I think we can give Madison a different direction, and then return to the caves later. I feel we need more information on that old mine site. To have no rogues seems …odd.’ Mitch agrees with dad on this one.
My mate is getting very busy with cameras.
‘Dad, can we not get someone else to help set up the cameras?’ I asked.
‘Nope, the app on her tablet is her creation, we have not had time to get it on any other tablet. And then teach that person how to use it.’ Dad looks at me with a question on his face.
‘I just feel we are asking a lot from one person, if she gets caught, we have no one else to replace her and what she is doing.’ I feel bad so much is put on her shoulders, right from the moment she walked off that bus.
‘She is tough, I am sure she will manage just fine.’ Mitch says.
