The Wannabe Warrior -
Chapter 43
Zane POV
My stomach grumbling, woke me from my slumber. It was still daylight. I rolled over and checked my phone to see the time, and was surprised to see it was five thirty. I threw my legs out of bed and sat rubbing the sleep from my eyes. I felt like crap, longer sleep would have been nice.
Maybe after I grab some food, I can replace my mate and climb back into bed, I enter the bathroom and empty my bladder and brush my teeth, all the while thinking about the rogues that attacked us. It was the first group we have come across that had more than six. Are they increasing the patrol number or is this a one-off group out doing some scouting of their own?
The dining hall was full, lots of chatter and some giggles and laughter, a few girls still had not yet got the hint that I had found my mate and were flashing their eyes and pushing up their boobs at me, as if those would take me away from my mate. I guess until we are fully mated, the girls will keep trying.
I see Madison sitting with dad and Gerome and Mitch. Ryan was nowhere to be seen; he must still be asleep. Ryan did an all-nighter too.
No sign of Mum either. Maybe she is with the other females out shopping or girly stuff. Mum has not really tried to get to know Madison or include her in the girly things, which pisses me off a little. Though I cannot blame her entirely, as Madison has been busy with pack stuff and mum rarely joins her in that, mum might do some daily Luna work, but has managed to delegate most of it to others lately. Could she be reducing her work load because she believes we won’t be here much longer? If she aligned herself with the advisor, I loathe the idea of that. The distrust that man has caused may end up being irreversible, some long-term distrust is embedded in the back of our minds forever.
Madison looked up at me and gave me a bright smile, pulling me from the direction my mind was wandering too.
Gerome moves over and I sit beside Madison, giving her a hug, then a short k**s, then. She starts filling my plate, her hand rests on my thigh and my body reacts almost immediately and I wonder how others handle that side of the relationship or if that will subside once we are mated.
‘Son, when you have had your fill, we would like a chance to catch up, in my office, the five of us.’ Dad said in my head.
I nod and continue to load my plate.
The table was lively, with a number of pack members chatting and telling jokes or just talking about the ball that was coming soon, so many people would be there. It was good to see everyone relaxed, even some young children were at the table eating and chatting, and at the far end were a number of teenagers, flirting and doing teenage stuff.
Watching the table as I ate improved my mood, the trust issue lodged in the back of my mind and my attempt to stay positive was back.
Having had enough, I left the table and entered Alpha’s office.
The door was locked and we opened the inner office.
I took a seat next to Madison and grabbed her hand in mine. I started to draw little circles on the back of her hand with my thumb and wait for dad to say what this meeting was about.
‘Gerome, the floor is yours.’ Dad says and sits down, waiting.
‘Actually, it is Madison’s floor, Madison, if you could tell Alpha what we have found, carefully.’ Gerome passes the task to Madison, and I feel bad for her, but in a way relieved, I get to hear her lovely voice again.
‘Today, I hacked the advisor’s computer. I am in the process of transferring some of the more important data to a laptop, so you can go through it, but will keep all the information on the other computer in case you have questions and it just might be on a copy of the advisor’s computer.’ I started with the easy part first.
‘Well done, Madison, so tell me anything of interest so far?’ Alpha asked with excitement in his eyes.
‘First let me tell you that I am unsure of the data and we cannot verify how accurate it is.’ She stated and dad and I nodded.
‘We have found that four other packs are involved with the advisor, on top of the two we already knew.’
‘What?’ Alpha growls.
‘Please Alpha, let me get this out before you get angry, you need to hear the whole story.’ I heard my mate say, I am proud of her for not taking dad’s anger, we do need to hear all she found before we make any real decisions.
‘Sorry, sorry, go on.’ The Alpha sits back down and looks at her with anticipation.
