The Wannabe Warrior -
Chapter 51
Madison POV
Ryan left and we dressed, and headed to the dining hall. Alpha was there with Mitch and Gerome and Ryan.
‘Morning, gentlemen!’ I greeted the table; it was just us and a few staff setting out the food in warmers.
We talked about the ball, and the people that would arrive shortly to assist with the preparations and patrols, keeping the conversation light and cheery for this early in the morning. I doubt my brain was fully functioning yet. More coffee was needed.
Alpha asked us all to head to his office, and we could continue our chat.
The news was, we would have our first arrivals in about an hour or so.
In the inner office, Alpha started the meeting.
‘Ryan, what happened?’ Alpha asked, having not got any satisfaction from the warriors, as none had seen what had happened to Ryan.
‘We were on our way back, when twenty rogues jumped us. They had no scent; we did not know they were hiding in the bushes. We managed to kill a few, and I thought we were getting the better of them, when I was jabbed in the neck with a needle, and woke in the cells. When I woke, the advisor came in and asked questions, but I refused to answer them, then some guy came running in and the advisor said to a man that was doing the dirty work, to have me take a long sleep, then next thing I know is my neck gets jabbed again and I wake in the hospital.’
‘Madison, can you give us a report on how you rescued Ryan?’ Alpha looked over at me.
I gave the Alpha a run down on my rescue and the movements I had noticed, and suggestions on how we could use the ventilation shafts to our advantage.
‘‘Well, though you make it sound simple, I reckon you are leaving out how much you must have struggled, getting Ryan’s body up the shaft and then carrying that heavy man back here. Thank you for bringing him back and setting up some cameras.’ Alpha said, and looked at Gerome.
‘Any action on the cell cameras that Madison put in there?’
‘No, seems they have more pressing issues. One of the cave entrances had smoke bellowing out of it, it seemed either one of the tunnels had fallen in or they had a fire in the tunnels. Either way, they are very busy elsewhere.’
‘Good, sounds like we may have a little more time. Our first guests will be here very soon, and from what I have been told, all our reinforcements will be here over the next two days. We are going to be busy.’
‘Alpha, can I be at the meetings you are going to have to brief them on our work, I want to.’
Alpha raised his hand to stop me from saying any more.
‘I expect you at all the meetings, I need you to sniff them out, so to speak, I am still having trust issues, and though I feel these are our allies, I would feel better if you could tell me if you smell the rogues or advisor’s scent on them.’
‘Yes, Alpha, I would appreciate that. Is my dad coming too?’ I asked hopefully.
‘I believe so, he was anxious to have the chance to take down the rogues as much as Alpha is. The two of them, as you know, need closure as much as you do .’
‘Thank you, Alpha. Gerome, we can set up that little machine I have been working on, in the outer office and one in the hallway, it will beep on our phones if someone has a bug or some kind of recording device activated.’
‘What machine is that? Madison?’ Alpha queries.
Gerome answers,
‘Madison converted some old radios; we can sit them anywhere and they will pick up bugs and other devices that maybe used to listen in on conversations. This woman, here, is a real gem, the knowledge she carries amazes me, and I am learning a lot from this unassuming lass.’ Gerome glows as he talks about me and I blush at the compliments.
We covered a few more issues, regarding the logistics of people coming and best ways to group them together. The part was more Mitch and Ryan’s area of expertise. I might have a good war mind, but who could be housed with whom, was not something I wanted to get involved with, even though I was told that, as future Luna, I might have to learn who likes who, but I said, whoever is the Beta wife, will get that job. This got the room laughing, until we got a call to say our guests were arriving.
We left the room, my spirits high, in anticipation of seeing my father, and wondering who else he might have brought with him.
