The Wannabe Warrior -
Chapter 52
Zane POV
Meeting in the office, I was shocked at first, then very proud, when I heard what Madison had done, while rescuing Ryan, that she had the presence of mind to set up cameras or even think of taking them with her, showed me the kind of woman she was, even under that pressure, she was still a clear thinker, a true warrior.
A number of cars drove down the road towards us standing in front of the packhouse. In the lead car was mum’s sister and family. I am sure mum will be pleased to have her sister stay for a little while. It has been a long time since she has visited Mum or we visited them.
I stood beside dad and Mitch, with my left arm around Madison’s waist, waiting nervously for the arrival of my future father-in-law, not sure how others felt when they met their in-laws. Taking a mate is a natural progression and replaceing him or her. For me it is nerve-racking. I am taking his only daughter away, the living symbol of his lost mate. He must be full of emotions himself, and I want to make a good impression.
Luna squealed when her sister climbed out of the car, barely letting the woman stand up, before she had her engulfed in her arms and then she started crying. Alpha had to pull her back away from the car so the others could get out of the vehicle. The next car held Alpha Daniel and a few warriors. Daniel pulled Madison into a warm hug, he turned and shook my hand, pulling me into a hug and thumping me hard on my back, in my ear. He said.
‘Don’t hurt her.’
‘Never.’ I responded in kind. Thumping him on the back hard, too.
Daniel pulled back and gave him a little nod, and turned to greet dad.
One by one, the different Alpha’s and Beta’s greeted us, with hand shakes and thumps on the back, the woman giving air k****s and hugs to the Luna and Beta wives, the meet and greet went well, till the last car pulled in, and I tensed up as Madison, called out
‘DAD!’ Madison’s smile on her face was absolutely beautiful, that image of her seeing her father arrive will be forever embedded in my memory. She was stunning.
Her dad climbed out of the car and rushed around, to give his little girl a hug, sweeping her off her feet and twirling her around in the air. The giggle of laughter from Madison had those still at the entrance, watching and chuckling at the antics of the two, the pure joy shown by Madison and her dad.
The tall muscular man put Madison down and turned to look at me. I swallowed a lump in my throat and forced a smile on my face.
I thought I would break the ice, the only way I knew how, and hoped it was the right thing to do. My nerves were getting the better of me, and it was now or never.
Taking a step forward, I pulled Madison’s dad into a hug and thumped him on his back. It was not the normal way to greet a man you barely know, and I honestly can’t remember ever meeting the man, though I am sure he must have stayed in the packhouse a few times for our annual meetings. He is a large man, but appeared to be like a gentle giant, from what I had seen and heard, he assisted the Alpha with a stern hand, and never was shy to vent his feelings if something went wrong. I liked him already.
‘Welcome, Dad.’ I said with as much sincerity as I could.
He returned the hug and thumped me on the back, then grabbed my shoulders and pushed me back to look at my face.
‘Welcome to the family, Son.’ Beaming a megawatt smile at me.
I smiled back, relieved that he was okay with being called dad.
‘My name is Jonathon, most call me Jon, but you can keep calling me dad.’ He chuckled and pulled Madison back to him and they walked toward the packhouse, wrapped in each other’s arms.
Madison looked over her shoulder at me and grinned. I made a little short run to catch up to them, and went to Madison’s side and sandwiched her between her dad and me. I wrapped my arm around her middle and the three of us walked together inside the packhouse.
Madison walked her dad up to his room, and I stayed with my dad. We were going to have lunch in the main dining hall, and then the men would go to the largest meeting room we had. Gerome had set up a computer and screen there and put some anti-listening bugs around the room. The talk we were about to have was going to blow the minds of a few Alphas here, and hopefully they could fill some of the gaps we have. I knew little of the advisor’s past. Many here are of the same age bracket, and could have been in the same year at school.
