The Wannabe Warrior -
Chapter 64
Zane POV
Mum’s bursting into the office was rude and shocking. He knew what mum did and her comments were an insult to the Alpha, and to have done it in front of others made it even worse. The suggestion to check out mum for mind control was a good idea, though she was never that close to his mother, as she always liked to look powerful, which he found amusing at the time, now seemed disrespectful to dad.
How dad managed to keep himself under control was a credit to his strength. He might not have killed mum, because the bond meant he would most likely die too. That did not mean he did not want to and I had a wicked thought that went against convention, and wondered whether his wolf was the one that kept him from seriously harming mum, their mate. A wolf’s bond to his mate is stronger than a human’s bond though it is still very strong, which would mean his black eyes meant his wolf was keeping dad under control when it came to their mate. I know, if provoked, dad had a bad temper, and the insult against his authority would have escalated his and his wolf’s anger, as neither liked to be challenged, and mum, in her own stupid way, just challenged dad and his wolf’s authority and power.
Jonathon got us talking about our mating and broke the tension in the room and we ended up having a laugh. Before it was dinner time, the days seemed to be flying by and the clash with the rogues that much closer.
We left the office. Madison and I went to the monitor room to check on the movements, while dad and Jon headed to replace my mother and take her, whether willing or not, to the hospital where the doctor was waiting to check her. If need be, she would be placed in restraint like a prisoner, until proved otherwise.
Mother had crossed the line so many times.
Madison had given dad some of the truthful potion she had brewed and was going to talk with Karen, replace out if my mother was really the one that gave her the wolfbane and other ideas dad had not mentioned, only hinted at.
The dungeons below the packhouse were getting full.
Dad said he would interview each rogue and replace out why they turned rogue, and if we could sort something out for them. If it is an unfortunate situation that made them rogue, or if they are beyond return, if they cannot be put back into a willing pack, then dad was going to euthanise them, it would be the kindest way out for a rogue with a lost mind.
The other cells had only a few in them. We were trying to keep the dungeons a secret for as long as we could and if there still are traitors around, they would not be able to replace the rogues or packs we have taken into the dungeons, though we may have to start putting rogues into the other cells soon, or it will look suspicious, with so many just disappearing with no explanation.
Gerome was in the monitoring room, and he looked up and nodded before going back to his work. Through the appearance of the table, he had made a lot of communicators, and was ready for distribution.
‘How much longer before the tasks are finished?’ Madison asked Gerome softly. I know she was feeling guilty for not helping as much as she had wanted to.
‘About two more days I would say, these are more or less done,’ He pointed to a couple of boxes on the floor, ‘we have 56 radio waves we can tune into groups and have one that is for all. I have colour coded each batch, how is the batch of silver-wolfbane polish going?’ He replies.
‘Same two days, then we can distribute the communicators and paint their nails at the same time. We will speak with Alpha, see how many groups we will need and I can make a few pots of polish, and make a lot of brushes, so they can paint their own nails or help each other with it.’
While Madison is talking to Gerome, I am half listening and looking at the monitors.
‘Gerome, when did they get that large container at the mine?’ I asked, startled to see the container at the mine. I knew it was not there yesterday.
‘About two hours ago, they have not opened it yet, so I have no idea what is inside.’
‘Let us know when it is opened. Do we have any cameras that point that way?’
‘Yep, Madison had set up three in a large tree that we can turn and zoom in, they are a little different to the others.’ Gerome said as he pointed to two trees and where the cameras were situated.
‘We are almost ready then, just three more days, and we can move out. I will inform dad.’
Gerome nodded, not looking up from his task.
‘Gerome, do you need me for anything?’ Madison asked before we left.
‘Nope, just finishing a few little bits and then test, I wanted to send someone out and make sure you could hear over the earpiece, say near the furthest cave entrance, any suggestions on who to send out there?’
Gerome had a cheeky grin on his face, as he knew he had just got two volunteers without even trying.
