The Wannabe Warrior
Chapter 65

Madison POV

I put the communicator in Zane’s ear and he put one in mine and we took off towards the furthest cave.

We nipped and jumped around each other, being the first time, we had been out in our wolf form. We were enjoying playing chasey and jumping over logs, until we had run for about an hour.

I suddenly became aware we were not alone, it was not a smell or anything like that, it was a feeling. I slowed down and trotted for about fifteen minutes, before the wolf came out of hiding. I guess he had enough of following us.

The wolf did not smell like a rogue or any pack I had met so far. He stood in front of us and just stared. I was unsure what to do at first. We did not want to attack or shift.

I thought I would try to mind-link him.

I remember my mum telling me once that I was different, our tracker abilities gave us gifts, and to nurture them.

‘Hello.’ I said to the wolf and his ears perked up and his head whipped at me.

‘Who are you?’ I said when I got no response from the wolf, but knew he heard me by his reaction.

‘Tell me, please, who are you? You do not smell like those who have taken over part of the caves?’ he says timidly.

‘I am Madison and this is my mate, Zane. We are from the Royal pack.’ I told him carefully. He did not show himself to be of any threat.

‘You are who I am looking for. My Alpha has sent me to see if we can get help.’ he looked relieved.

‘Follow me back to the packhouse and I will take you to our Alpha.’ I suggested.

He nodded and I told Zane and the Alpha that I was bringing a boy back who needed our help.’

We took off back home, going the quickest way I could replace, and the lad kept up with us for most of the way. After a while, I noticed he had started to lag behind, so I slowed the pace, and let him catch up, and we kept the slower pace.

About half an hour out from the pack-house, some of our warriors came out of the trees, and sniffed the boy, but did not attack or show aggression; the boy had the smell of fear pouring off of him; he had put his trust in a stranger and I understood the risk he had taken, by trusting me.

At a tree close to the packhouse I stopped and shifted, grabbed the bag of clothes hidden in the tree and threw some pants to Zane and the boy and I pulled on some pants and a shirt on. The boy shifted, he was a large boy, almost my height and muscular frame, he obviously trained to be a warrior of some sort.

Zane looked him over, but left me to keep the lead.

The boy followed me to the Alpha’s office and I knocked loudly and waited. The boy looked around the place as he waited, for whatever was going to happen, he could not back out now, he was in too deep.

‘Enter.’ Boomed through the door and I smiled inside, knowing it was an act for our visitor.

I opened the door and submitted to Alpha. The lad did the same. Zane walked over to the chair next to Alpha and sat down, displaying his position as someone of authority to the boy.

‘Welcome son, come sit down on the sofa and have a little chat.’ Alpha pointed to the sofa and the boy shyly walked over and sat, his fear strong but his face was blank, he was well trained in keeping his face calm even though his scent said otherwise.

‘Alpha, this young lad, came to us for help, something to do with the caving system.’ I started so the boy would have a chance to calm down.

I turned to him and asked, ‘Would you like a drink and something to eat? You haven’t eaten yet today?’

‘Yes, please.’ He replied politely.

I mind-linked Mary and asked if she could bring something hot to eat for the young boy and a warm drink, possibly something with meat in it?’

The boy looked at the Alpha and then at Zane, then at me. He was uncertain and agitated, the fear smell slowly reduced.

Mary to arrive with food, and the boy’s eyes lit up at the feast Mary brought. She had brought enough, so we could join the boy at the meal and hopefully put him at ease.

‘Thank you so much Mary.’ I said. She nodded and left. I made a plate and handed it to the boy, who took it and started to devour the food on the plate. It looked like he may not have had a good meal in a while. I handed Zane and Alpha a plate before making one for myself. We ate in comfortable silence as we waited for the boy to finish his meal and fill in on what he was running from and where he came from.
