The Wannabe Warrior -
Chapter 82
Madison POV
I listened to the reporting of what the advisor had done to other people and to their loved ones, and the threats that he had made to keep power and support. I was sickened and realised others had a bad time too and felt a kindred spirit towards those people.
When Daniel spoke of his mate, his Luna, I knew he only guessed at what had happened, by the c*****e that was left on the ground, and dad did not force me to talk about it, knowing it was a gruesome attack to witness and I was having bad nightmares in the beginning, I was only six years old, when they were murdered, time had lessened the nightmares, only a trigger of some sort would cause another nightmare, but I think as I aged, I learnt to managed them better and hide them from my dad.
But when Alpha turned to conversation about the Dark River Pack, and whether to let those in the dungeon go, as they may have been under the delusion of the advisor, I knew I had to speak of that awful day that has been a nightmare, and has plagued me for many years.
‘Alpha?’ I started timidly.
‘Yes, Madison? Do you have something to add to our conversation about the Dark River pack or about the advisor?’ Alpha asked hopefully.
‘Both, actually sir.’ I said, giving him my respect.
‘Please, in your own time, tell us your story.’ Alpha spoke softly and encouragingly.
‘You don’t have to tell the story, Madison, we understand you were so young, and this may cause you great pain.’ Dad said softly, but you could see the worry in his face.
‘Jonathon, if Madison is ready to speak of that day, I think it would be good for her to at long last get it off her chest and share, and it would be good for us to hear the real account of it.’ Alpha Daniel spoke with emotions, that said he too needed some closure.
‘In your own time Madison.’ Alpha encouraged, and Zane put his hand on my thigh and rubbed circles on my leg, trying to give me support and encouragement.
‘Alpha Daniel, I am sorry, but you will not like what I am about to share, but I ask you, please don’t get angry, just know that the advisor is dead and you still have twenty men in the cells, that I am sure Alpha will let you vent your anger out on.’ I stated and Daniel nods his head sadly face visibly showing his nervousness of what I am about to tell.
‘Mum could smell the men before we were attacked, long enough to rush to a tree and hoist me up onto a high branch out of the way of the men rushing towards us. I even smelt the smell of rotting men; I now know it is a rogue smell.’ I sniffle as I think of that day.
‘Go on dear.’ Alpha encouraged.
I explained how Mum and Luna fought and how the van came and took the men away, throwing the dead and injured into the van. I gave them the van number plate and a description of the van, but not that it would make any difference now, with it being so long, but if they were stupid enough to use the van with the registered number plate of a pack vehicle for the attack. Then they would have more proof. Had I reported the van number plate back then? Would it have made a difference?
‘Alpha Daniel, I am sorry, that Luna was alive when they started to pull her limbs off, and she had lost an arm before they removed her head and then removed her other limbs. She fought hard, just like mum did, but I will never ever forget the screams of pain she made, when they tore her apart. Losing her head was a relief for her, it had ended her pain, and mum was overcome by too many rogues to assist the Luna.’ I spoke softly and tears ran down my face.
‘Some of the men were angry at the one that removed Luna’s head, as he wanted Luna to suffer more pain before allowing her to die.’ I spoke the last part very softly, but the table still managed to hear what I had said.
Daniel cried when he heard of the way his mate had died and that she had endured so much pain, before the relief of death found her.
‘Thank you, Madison.’ Alpha Daniel said with deep apology and I looked at my dad and saw tears rolling down his face too.
‘What has this to do with the Dark River pack?’ An Alpha asked.
‘There may have been ten men there fighting against Mum and Luna, and yes, they all had the smell of rogues on them, but four of them were from the Dark River Pack, and one of the men that is from the Dark River Pack, was the man that removed the Luna’s head, and he is in the dungeons, and two others as well, I have not seen the fourth one.’ looking over the Alpha Daniels, as I said this.
‘You are sure Madison?’ another Alpha asked, who I did not really know.
‘If Madison said that the man was in the dungeons and four were from that pack, you better believe her, because she is a special girl from a long line of trackers, and they never forget a scent, no matter how many years pass.’ My dad said almost at a growl.
‘Calm down, Jonathon, not everyone knows who Madison is, and as Madison was only six at the time, it would be strange if some did not doubt this girl’s ability.’ The Alpha said, as he tried to placate the Alpha’s in the room.
‘Sorry Alpha, I can’t help but defend my girl.’ Dad says and gives me a sympathetic look.
‘It is okay dad, I understand their scepticism, how can I prove what I say is true, sir?’ I asked, looking at the man who had his doubts about my ability.
‘Well, you have a good nose, tell me something that only I would know that you can smell on me?’ he says sarcastically.
‘Are you sure? You may not like what I say.’ I replied, wondering what he was going to say if I spilled his little secret.
‘Go for it. I have nothing to hide.’ He says with false confidence.
‘You slept with the omega from your pack this morning, and you slept with the omega that works in the laundry and you have slept with…’ I stared at the Alpha as I spoke of what he had been up to the last few days.
‘Stop, that is enough, Madison, do not spout such things.’ A man, I did not know, defended the Alpha.
The Alpha, who I had given his love live to the room, just broke out into laughter and took a little while for him to settle back down, all around the table, stared at him while they waited for his reaction, some with surprise on their faces and others with disgust.
‘Okay, okay, I believe you.’ he says between chuckles.
‘Sir, are you saying she is telling the truth?’ the man who was defending him asked.
‘Of course, she is telling the truth. I did say, I have nothing to hide, if she had the nose to pick who I have been with, then I deserved the truth to be told.’ He said with pride in his voice, as if being told he slept around was something to be proud of.
‘Sir, how could you do that to your Luna?’ he spouts off.
‘Excuse me sir, but we are not here to discuss this man’s s****l habits, but what we are going to do with the Dark River Pack and the Northern Pack.’ I said, annoyed at the direction the meeting was going.
‘I agree, Madison, let’s move on.’ Alpha Ezekiel commanded, and the room, turned to look at him in anticipation.
