The Wannabe Warrior -
Chapter 83
Zane POV
The meeting was going okay, I guess considering what we were discussing and the number of powerful men in the room.
Then Madison said she would tell her story and I was shocked and felt the pain and sympathy for her. I had held her in my arms during one of her nightmares, so I knew it was a bad experience for her that still plagued her dreams, even now years later.
Madison revealed, for the first time, the truth about Luna, and her mum’s death, how Luna was still alive, when they started to pull her limbs off and the screams of agony by Luna during that horrifying moment.
Although her dad knew Madison had seen the horror of her mum’s death, they did not know the extent of that painful full story until now.
Her father and Alpha Daniel, were both in tears, and could see the agony on their faces. When the truth was revealed, my poor mate had to live that moment over and over in her head for years. I don’t blame her for not wanting to share that horror, but I am glad she had at last, if that means both her dad and Daniel and herself could start to truly heal.
I stroked her leg, trying to give her strength through my touch, that was, until that arsehole wanted proof. She was telling the truth about the Dark River Pack.
I wanted to jump over the table and punch his lights out, the nerve of the man.
Dad growled lowly and it calmed me a little, a little trick he used to do when I was young, and I easily lost my temper.
‘So we are in agreement, that the Dark River Pack were involved with the schemes of the advisor and for a long period of time and there is no proof that their participation was because of the advisors’ threats, but by offering some kind of power as a reward.’ Dad said.
‘Alpha,’ I said, ‘we have video and carcases of Dark River Pack members at the mines and the lower caves.’ I reminded him, having seen some I had recognised, when we were removing the dead.
‘Yes, I had forgotten about the videos, thank you, for the reminder, they did seem to be very chummy, not the behaviour of someone being threatened.’ Agreed dad, with his brow farrowed, as he looked around the room at the few men, grumbling to themselves about something they were not ready to discuss.
‘So, we can dispose of the ones in the dungeons, but what about the main pack? I can assume that the Alpha is a supporter of the advisor,. Do we wipe them all out, or should we look at removing the Alpha and his senior staff member and placing a suitable Alpha in place to sort the rest out?’ Dad asked. He wanted to make sure all the Alpha’s that had been harmed had a say in the way we treated the guilty.
‘I agree the ones in the dungeons’ lives are over. I think a little torture to replace out what they know may be advisable, before we end their lives.’ One Alpha adds.
‘I would like to be part of the torture team; I feel I have an arm and a leg owing to me.’ Alpha Daniel says, with a growl.
‘Me too, I feel I am owed a chance of vengeance, and these men in the dungeons would suit that purpose.’ Jonathon says, supporting Alpha Daniels’ pleas to be part of the disposal team.
‘Are there any objections to Jonathon and Daniel taking the lives of those in the dungeon that are from the Dark River Park?’ dad asked, and no one disagreed, though you could see a couple uncomfortable with the proceedings.
‘Good, then they are all yours. Get what information you can from them. Maybe, Madison, do you have any of the truth potion you brewed before, we can put it in their water before we take them out for questioning?’ Dad asked.
‘Yes, I have plenty, made a big bottle of if, when I thought that we might be questioning those in the cells, now the fight is done, and you have those ten members from the Northern pack that you might question too.’ I replied softly.
‘Yes, about them, men? What do you think of their involvement?’ Dad looked around the room and no one had anything to say about them.
‘Well then, after we have dealt with the Dark River Pack, we can give the Northern Pack some tonic and ask them a few questions.’ Dad suggested.
‘So, back to the Dark River Pack, any suggestions on a replacement for Alpha? And Beta? I feel the woman and children are innocent and once we have some of our own people in the pack, we can assess the men individually,’ dad looks about the room waiting for a response.
‘That is going to be a hard task, those members of the pack who are loyal to the old Alpha and support the advisor could become a problem.’ One said thoughtfully, his eyes down as he was thinking.
‘We can send in a group of warriors to support the new Alpha and Beta, and if we hear one work for the advisor or the old Alpha ways, then that family will be removed and dealt with accordingly.
‘Jonathon, how about your Graham as a Beta? He is strong and I know he has had Beta training, because you trained both your sons, and your daughter too.’ Dad suggested it and I like that suggestion. Though his new mate might have to become tougher, she seemed to be a timid mouse.
‘I am sure he would make a good Beta; I am not sure about being newly mated, and sending Graham into that death trap is good, but maybe if Daniel approves, we can send some of the Blue River pack warriors over there to support him. At least he knows they have his back?’ Jonathon suggests.
‘Excellent, I approve, so Daniel, do you agree to let the warriors go to that pack?’ Dad asked enthusiastically.
‘Well, it is actually my son, who is Alpha now, but I am sure I can persuade him to allow it.’ Daniel says, looking genuinely pleased to have been asked.
‘Now, the Alpha position, Peter, you have twin sons. How about the younger twin taking the Alpha position?’ Dad asked as he kept thinking of who he could send to sort this mess out.
‘That is an honour, sir. I think he would make a great Alpha. I am sure he will accept; I can ask him. He is coming here for the ball, so you can meet him and discuss the position and meet Graham and his mate.’ Peter said with a pleased look on his face.
‘Good that is one part done. When it is time to take over the Dark River Pack, we can send about two hundred warriors to support the takeover on top of the group from the Blue River Pack and once the Alpha and Beta are in place, we can reduce that number as we weed out the problem makers.’ Dad’s face shows relief as one burden is removed.
‘The ball is in three weeks. We won’t take over the pack until after the ball, by then we may have enough information on the Northern Pack regarding whether they are in cahoots with the advisor or not.’ The faces around the room seemed to be in agreement.
‘We can also start talking to the rogues in the dungeons. We have a lot of them, and depending on their answers, we can either put them into a pack or kill them or release them back out into the wild to live the last of their days as rogues.’ I suggest. And though not all liked the idea of releasing rogues back out in the wild, they could not replace a better solution.
‘Thank you, you are most welcome to stay longer here and enjoy our hospitality or head back to your packs. I thank you for your time and assistance in this matter.’ Dad ends the meeting and some get up and leave the room, while others stay and chat a bit longer.
Madison and I walk out with Daniel and Jonathon, to discuss the next move with those in the dungeon.
