The Wannabe Warrior
Chapter 85

Zane POV

I was of the same opinion as Jonathon. I did not want to have Madison in the dungeons while we tortured the prisoners, but Daniel had a point too, so I kept my opinions to myself, and hoped we could shield Madison from the worst of it.

Madison, left us to go get the bottle of truth potion and will meet up at the dungeons.

She had held onto the knowledge that three men in the cells had partaken in the deaths of her mum and Luna was amazing. I did not have a clue; she was hiding such a secret. To keep working on getting the advisor and not let that knowledge eat at her was a sign of her inner strength. She must have wanted the advisor so much, and knowing the others were in the dungeons was reassuring.

That at some later date she would get the satisfaction of knowing they would also die.

Whether I am now paranoid or just extra careful or just don’t trust anyone anymore, who knows, but I think it will be a while before I relax and start trusting people again. I am running on our gut feelings and if you don’t meet my gut assessment, you will have a harder time getting into my inner circle. Or even the outer circle, the old adage of trust needs to be earned could not be more accurate than how I am feeling right now. I cannot believe how many people I had trusted are now found to be wanting.

Just look at my mum, I had trusted her with my secrets for years, and only stopped telling her stuff when I hit puberty and some things I thought were not appropriate to discuss with mum, or any woman for that matter.

I had the issue that many men have when they hit that age where they start to really notice women and their boobs and their arse and yeah, you get the picture. Okay I should say e******n issues, small things, seem to cause an e******n and get hard at the most inopportune time and make me embarrassed, hoping no one would notice, and that caused me to go through the track pants and other loose-fitting pants. The jeans were almost never seen, because it is hard to hide a hardon in jeans. I couldn’t even ask my dad’s advice and when I said something to the only person I would trust with that sort of thing, he laughed at me and said I needed to get laid, but I wanted my first time to be with my mate, so I ignored that advice and learnt how to use my hand, effectively.

Seems, my mind is wandering again, off all the off-beat thoughts to have whilst walking around in a dungeon, lucky no one can read my mind, or they would think I was really losing it.

We checked the other door and made sure it was bolted shut and, just for good measure, I added another padlock to the bolt. No one was going to get this door open without it making a lot of noise, plus the door has motion sensors on the inside and the outside.

We walked down the hall and opened another hidden door, and walked down the long stairs to another part of the dungeon below.

The familiar smell of death and b***d was strong, and I wondered if it had always been this strong and I had just been immune to it, or someone had been torturing some rogues for information lately. Though no one mentioned it.

At the end of another long hallway, we reached the cell we were after, deciding to wait for Madison, as we did not know which three men she had been talking about.

Madison did not take long to reach us, and we knew she would have been careful when she entered the dungeon, making sure the alarm was reset once she was at the door and locked.

This place had many cells, and we had put the Dark River pack a long way away from either entrance. That way, if anyone did manage to get this far, we had a chance to get here before they could reach them or Luna or Karen. I did not trust many people and the less they knew where they were housed the better.

I opened the lock on the door and opened the door. There were five men, shackled to the walls with silver chains. They smelt of urine and fear, we only gave them a cup of soup once a day, just enough to keep them alive while we decided what to do with them. They were at first each in a single cell, but as the cells filled, we brought those here. I am not sure how these five were chosen to be in here together, but I am glad they are, so when we take them out one at a time, it will make the others worry, or so I hope.

‘Madison dear, which one did not take either lady.’ Jonathon asked, and even I knew what he was asking.

‘The one on the left, dad.’ She answered, carefully.

Alpha Daniel grabbed the man, and pulled his head up for us to look at his face. He had a scar down the left side of his face and he sneered at us when we lifted his head up.

I removed the shackles from the wall but left the chains on his feet and wrists, and, with Jonathon’s on the other arm, we dragged him out the door and Madison followed, leaving Alpha Daniel to close and lock the door.

We dragged him down to the room we like to use for Torture, that place the smell of b***d and fear came from, and I thought maybe I was crazy, because I looked forward to what we were about to do.

With Jonathon’s help, we placed him on a wooden pole. His arms stretched above his head and his feet stretched out wide.

Madison lifted his head and calmly gave him the tonic to drink. He drank from the bottle thirstily, gulping it down, not spilling a drop.

‘Five minutes at the most.’ Madison said, and backed away to give us room to work on the man.
