The Wannabe Warrior -
Chapter 90
Madison POV
Needing to take my mind off what was going on down in the dungeons, I called my brother and some warriors to help me take some more food over to the cave dwellers. Mary made a lot of food just for them, she is a sweetheart, doing all that work on top of the normal cooking.
We headed there with our horse and cart loaded with goodies, and the warriors jogged beside the cart. We took just over an hour to get there and we were greeted with a lot of enthusiasm and helpers suddenly arrived to take the packages out of the back.
‘Alpha Alex, greetings can we talk?’ I asked as I looked around the cave we were in and noticed all the changes in just one day.
He led me down a tunnel and pushed a large stone, it moved effortlessly and we entered a large room. A desk and other office-type things were around the room and a glowing globe hung from the ceiling, giving the room its light.
‘How can I help you? young lady’ he asked merrily.
‘We have traitors in the camp, we have identified three, and wanted to warn you not to trust them. Please be extra cautious of those you do not know.’ I said hesitantly.
‘Can you share the names or pack names you know, please?’ he requested kindly.
‘Alpha Frederick, Alpha Samuel and his beta Higgin.’
‘Oh, I know these men and their warriors, Alpha Samuel. They were here this morning. Looking around, they did not go into the caves and tunnels though, it seemed a little strange.’
‘Be careful, don’t worry about repercussions from us if you engage and kill a few of them. They are plotting against the king and his family, and I guess that means me too. Still not used to being mated to the future king’
‘Thank you for the warning, we shall prepare and at night close off the walls. We have not moved into the other areas yet, still cleaning them, and making sure the young ones, when out hunting rabbits, have warriors with them. Oh, by the way, the warriors and Alpha Samuel, did not have any scent. I was wondering if they were stupid enough to bath in the mine water before it was closed up. We shall know in another day or so.’
‘Hum, now that you mentioned it, I don’t remember Alpha Frederick having a scent, we have had so much going on that I failed to notice.’
‘There will be a whole lot of pain soon for them; we might not need to worry about them for long.’ He chuckled to himself as some unspoken joke, and I thought it would be karma visiting again if that was the case.
The Blue River Warriors stayed for a while with me, and enjoyed the company of the pack. They were a lovely group of people that seemed to work in harmony. In the time I was there, not once did I feel friction or any disputes, it was nice to see, rather than the people in the royal circle fighting with each other to be on the top of the pecking order.
We were getting ready to leave and heading back to the packhouse, when I was mind-linked by Zane.
‘Where are you love?’ his voice sounded stressed.
‘In the main cave of the Deep Earth pack, we just delivered some more food. What is the matter?’
‘We have just put Alpha Frederick in the dungeon, we have not found Alpha Samuel or beta Higgin or their warriors. We are concerned, as Alpha Frederick insinuated, that your life was in danger.’
‘I have the Blue River warriors here with me. We came by cart. Do you want me to return now, or wait here with the Deep Earth people?’
‘Stay if they let you, we need to track them down.’ he sounded like he was having trouble telling me all of this, as if knowing i am in danger would make any difference.
‘Alpha Alex, would you mind if the warriors and myself stayed the night?’ I asked.
‘Not at all, Madison, it seems your warriors are enjoying seeing our home, and it would be a pleasure to have your company here longer. We have a lot we can discuss.’ Alex answered with a gleam in his eyes. It looked like he had some plans. I am nervous now.
‘Zane, we will stay tonight, and you should be aware, they have no scent.’
‘No Scent? What do you mean?’
‘Did you not notice; Alpha Frederick had no scent either? Alex said Alpha Samuel and his warriors were here this morning and have no scent, he believes they must have bathed in the mine water, and they will have karma visit them soon.’
‘I will go to the dungeon and check. I did not notice, thank you, stay safe.’ He urged.
‘Well, I guess you have some guests. What would you like me to do, while I am here, anything in particular?’
‘I have a room, a lot like the one Anton said you have with a diorama of the area. Would you like to see it?’
‘Yes please.’ As we headed down into the bowels of the cave, I mind-linked Graham to our overnight stay, and though he was a little annoyed at being kept from his new mate, he agreed it was for the best to stay there till the morning.
We had walked down at least ten levels before Alex turned down a hallway and pushed a large stone, it moved and we entered a ginormous room with hundreds of dioramas of different parts of the above ground and some that depict the cave systems.
‘Wow.’ I gasped and Alex chuckled.
‘Just a little different from yours. We are impressed with your accuracy of the aboveground area and love the idea of those cameras. Maybe we can come to some agreement regarding setting some up inside the cave entrances and maybe get a link to those you are attached to the outside of our home entrances?’
‘Sure, we can do that’ and I started to move around the room, in awe of what was before me.
