The Wannabe Warrior -
Chapter 91
Zane POV
Madison was safe.
Alpha Daniel, Jonathon and I headed back down to the dungeon, to see Alpha Frederick. He was in a cell by himself. We had made him very comfortable.
Not.
I entered the cell and looked over at him. He is chained against the wall, naked.
He cannot move very much at all, his arms are pinned above his head and his legs are spread apart with the silver and wolfsbane short chains, and we have a lovely rope, made of the best raw wolfsbane looped wrapped around his waist a few times, and then through the wrist and neck collar rings, that secure him to the walls and down to his feet, if he so much as twitches, the rope will rub against him and cause him some pain. He is flat against the cold wall; his wolf won’t be able to assist him in staying warm and he will not be fed or given water.
Alpha Ezekiel, wants him to be ready to talk, so a few days down here in this condition should make him pliant.
We all take a sniff and agree he has no scent.
‘Alpha Frederick, why do you not have a scent?’ Jonathon asked.
‘Go to hell, I am telling you nothing.’ He growls back, defiantly.
‘We just wanted to get an idea how soon your stomach would explode.’ Daniel says, and we noticed Alpha Frederick had a quick flash of fear in his eyes, before he made his face go blank.
Chuckling, we walked out of the dungeon, knowing we did not need to torture him, he would be dead soon. I will get a camera placed in this room so we can monitor when Alpha Frederick starts to have problems and to see how the condition worsens. We had no control groups to have any real idea, only the end results and what Alpha Alex had told us, how things would progress.
We did not want to open the mine site ever again, but if this water was found somewhere else, we needed to understand.
Could it be the minerals in the mine making the yellow phosphorous? If it is, let’s hope it is not mined anywhere else.
We met dad at the door of his office. He was just leaving the room.
‘Alpha Frederick has no scent, I have mind-linked Gerome to place a camera in his cell, so we can monitor his changes. If he has bathed in the water, then maybe his warriors and Alpha Samuel’s warriors have too. We will have a lot more screaming happening soon.’ I shrugged.
‘Better prepare a pyre for the bodies, I don’t think our packhouse furnace will cope with all those bodies.’ Dad says as he walks towards the packhouse entrance.
‘Where are you headed dad?’
‘Barracks, I think we have the first of the warriors dying, have had some reports of screaming coming from one of the barracks, care to join me?’ dad says, not at all surprised by the report and if all the traitors have bathed in that water, we won’t have to hunt them down, we will need to replace new pack leaders.
It saddened me that I had become so accepting of the whole scenario of death. I did not want to have to kill lots of people, now I don’t have to. Those in the cells are lucky they have missed the painful end to this. I had felt this once before when we found all the rogue bodies and now, I feel the same way again, but will they feel like the lucky ones? Some have to die, that we understand, but they will die quicker and less painfully than these guys.
The sounds of screaming were heard before we reached the barracks. A group of warriors were standing outside staring at the barracks, wondering what was going on.
‘Warriors, all is well, no need for alarm.’ Dad calls out to the gathering group.
‘What is it, Alpha?’ one of the warriors boldly asked dad. Then he belatedly bowed his head in submission.
‘Those screaming we gather are part of the advisor’s warriors. We have recently found out we had more traitors than we first thought and these men may have bathed in the mine site’s tainted water, and will die a terrible death.’
‘Karama has come to call.’ One of the warriors said and a murmur of agreement was heard among the group.
‘The goddess has deemed these men not worthy.’ Another says, and more murmurs of agreement move around the group.
‘How long will they scream like this?’ another asked, looking sad at the barracks.
‘We do not know how long one is in pain. I am told it could be days, but don’t worry, I have asked for some blow darts and we shall put them to sleep, and see if that stops the screaming. If not, we will have to go and kill each one ourselves.’ Dad says casually, still wondering how so many managed to fool him into trusting them.
‘Well, if you are going to be doing some killing, count me in to help. I don’t like traitors, and would gladly put them down.’
‘Me too.’ Said another, and soon nearly all the group standing outside the barracks agreed to go in and kill all who were screaming.
‘Well, that is most kind of you. I will take you up on that offer. Whoever wishes to stop that screaming, may enter the barracks and silence them. We are looking at Alpha Fredricks and Alpha Samuel’s warriors, not sure which ones are screaming, but go and get rid of your b***d l**t, but be mindful to only kill those screaming. I don’t want you killing an innocent person. Once killed, bring them out and place them at the back of the barracks. We are in the middle of making a large fire to burn the bodies.’ Dad says, and the men walk into the barracks.
The men rushed into the barracks and the screaming slowly stopped and bodies were brought out and placed in a pile near the growing wood pile.
It was a mercy to kill the screaming men.
I need my mate now, to remind me not all things are bad and evil, I need her warmth and laughter, her smile and, well, just her. I wish she was not staying away another night.
