The Werewolf King’s Runaway Queen -
Chapter 110
Alissa's
POV
It's been 2 weeks since I started living in the city in Mildred's home.
Since last week, I've been searching for suitable jobs that I can get into and I finally got one last week. I start today.
After a refreshing shower, I wore my undies and wrapped myself in my robe and put a towel on my hair.
I then made my way to the kitchen while Mildred was still in her room.
Mildred is usually already awake at this time but she doesn't immediately go out of her room.
She has various routines such as praying, meditating and dancing in her room alone before she could go out of her room.
I've learned about it since my stay here and it's so entertaining for me to think about it.
I cooked eggs, bacon and hash browns.
After I was done, I quickly went back to my room and changed into work clothes.
It was a beige double breasted blazer and skirt set.
It was actually Mildred's and she gave it to me along with some more pieces I could use for work.
She also gave me a few more clothes from when she was in her maiden days.
Surprisingly, they were all in good condition although a little bit out of date.
But I wouldn't complain because all I had packed were hoodies, sweatpants, t-shirts and leggings and like a single pair of jeans.
Mildred had a variety stored in her closet amd gave it for me to wear since I refused to buy myself more clothes.
I fixed my hair a bit and put a little tint on my lips and some powder then grabbed my bag and left the room.
I then knocked on Mildred's door.
"Mildred, breakfast is ready when you are" I said and placed my bag on the sofa.
Mildred came out a moment later.
"Good morning, Mildred" I greeted her and she smiled.
"Good morning, dear" she said and joined me in the dining table.
"Breakfast is served. We'll walk after and I'll need to head out for work" I told her as I gave lightly pushed the plates to her so she can get her portion of the food. "Oh yes. It's your first day today" she said and I nodded.
Mildred smiled proudly.
"That's great, dear" she said and we both got our food and started eating.
We talked about what I was going to do at work.
I was able to land a job as a teacher's aide in preschool which I really liked considering I had a good amount of experience with little kids.
The salary isn't high which was expected but it was enough to pay rent and some extra for food.
I was taking things slow.
There are nights that I still curl in my bed and cry.
I'm still mourning for my baby every day and I'll never be able to heal fully and I know that.
But I'm doing my best to stay alive for my baby even if it's hard.
When the time is right, we'll be reunited hopefully.
After breakfast, Mildred and I went for our usual morning walk.
We couldn't stay in the park for too long since I still had work.
We went back after the walk and I led Mildred back home and grabbed my bag then left.
"Goodbye, Mildred. I'll see you later after work" I said and Mildred waved me goodbye.
I walked to a bus station then took the bus to the location of the school.
After a few minutes, I arrived and I had to walk a few more minutes till I finally reached the location.
I made my way inside and there was a guard by the entrance.
"Excuse me, maam. How may I help you?" the guard asked.
"Good morning. I'm the new teacher's aide" I said and showed a letter of confirmation that was given to me.
The guard nodded and let me inside.
I navigated my way to the principal's office.
I saw the sign on the door so I knocked.
"Come in" a female voice said inside so I opened the door and peaked inside.
Then, the principal looked at me.
"Good morning. You are?" she said.
"Good morning, maam. I'm Alissa, the new teacher's aide" I introduced myself.
"Oh yes. Come in" she said.
She motioned for me to sit down so I did.
We talked over the job description and what my duties were and all that.
After that, I was given a temporary ID.
Then, I was toured around the area and was finally appointed to a class.
"Goodluck on your first day, Lisa" the principal said.
"Thank you, maam" I said and she left me.
I stood outside the door for a moment taking a calming breath before opening the door.
There were already kids inside and I saw the only teacher fixing something at the end of the room.
"Excuse me" I said to get her attention and she turned to look at me.
I smiled awkwardly.
"Hi. I'm the new teacher's aide" I said.
The lady smiled and came to me.
"Hi, there. The kids and I have been waiting to meet you. Come. I'll introduce you" she said and led me to the center of the room.
Kids were running around and playing but neither the lady nor I were fazed.
I guess we were both used ti the commotion already.
"Kids, settle down. I need to introduce you to someone first" she announced.
The kids looked and saw me then stopped.
"Take your seats" she said and the kids did as they were told.
Once everyone was settled down, she looked at me.
"Please introduce yourself" she said and I nodded.
"Hi, kids. My name is Alissa but I'd prefer to be called Lisa. I'm new here in the city and I'll be your teacher's aide from now on" I said.
The kids clapped and giggled.
"What's your favorite color, Lisa?"
"Lisa, what candy do you like?
"What's your favorite cartoon character?"
I glanced at the lady earlier and she gave me a pat on the back.
"Goodluck to us" she said.
Goodluck indeed.
The day went on and I started getting to know each kid.
It seemed like time was passing by so quickly as morning turned to noon and noon turned to afternoon.
After a long day, we prepared the kids so they could go home.
I helped as many kids as I could.
"Lisa, I have some paperwork to work on and I usually get on the bus with the kids to make sure that they are all dropped off to their parents. Do you mind doing that?" Ivy, the kid's teacher asked me. I nodded.
"Sure thing" I said.
She gave me a list of the kids' parents and their contact number and how they looked.
Then, we set off to ride the school bus.
I counted the kids and made sure everyone was on the bus and I settled them down on their seats.
I started entertaining the kids with songs as the bus started to drive away and they all sang along with me.
Then, I suddenly felt breathless.
I held clenched on my thigh as I looked around.
I felt uneasy and I didn't even know why.
I stood up and looked around checking on the kids.
They all seemed fine but I still felt like something is wrong.
I looked at the driver and carefully walked beside him.
"Uhm hi. Is everything okay?" I asked randomly.
"Everything is fine, miss. Why did you ask?" the driver replied.
"Oh uhm it's nothing" I said and made my way back to ny seat.
I looked out of the window.
What's happening to me?
What's this feeling?
The bus just entered the bridge and there was a few cars in front of us.
I watched the driver and I saw him try to slow down the bus.
My brows slightly furrowed when it didn't.
He tried again but the bus wasn't slowing down one bit.
My heart started beating fast as the driver glanced back at me with a terrified face.
Oh no.
Ghad no.
"The break isn't working" he muttered in a low tone.
I gulped.
The driver tried to do everything he can to avoid bumping to the other cars and I rushed to the back with the kids.
The situation escalated quickly and the kids realized the commotion.
"Everyone, please gather to me!" I said as I gathered the kids in the back.
I wouldn't be able to shield them all with my body if anything happened but I will sure try.
We could hear and watch the cars screeching as the bus shook violently.
The kids started panicking as I held them.
I looked around trying to think of a way to save them if worse comes to worst.
The kids started crying and suddenly I saw another car coming our way.
The driver turned the stirring wheel to the left and the bus aggressively turned to the left and went through the railings.
My eyes widened and the kids shouted.
Suddenly, we found ourselves at hanging at the edge of the bridge.
The kids screamed as the bus shook while we were at the edge.
I could see the drop of water and so can the kids.
I was breathing heavily as I carefully kept looking around.
People were trying to get to us but couldn't come closer in fear of causing the bus to completely fall.
More than half of the bus was off the bridge.
Everyone was in full panic mode.
"Kids, stay still!" I shouted to remind them.
We wouldn't be able to use the doors.
I cautiously made my way to the closest window.
I tried opening it but it was stuck.
I took a deep breath and I punched it causing the glass to shatter.
The kids shouted in surprise and the bus shook a little and caused it more tilt a little.
I looked out to the people and motioned for them to come a little closer and they cautiously did.
I then looked at the kids.
"We're getting out. One at a time" I said calmly.
They looked at me scared.
"It's going to be okay" I assured them and they hesitantly nodded.
I grabbed the closest kid to me and slipped her carefully out the window and the people outside got her.
I was careful as I slipped one kid after another and with every kid, the bus became more and more unstable.
The bus shook violently a few times and I had to be more careful.
I was able to get the last kid out and the bus shook violently again causing the bus to tilt more and more. "Get out, miss!" the people from outside shouted.
I shook my head.
"I can't" I muttered and looked at the front where the unconscious driver was.
I looked out to the people again.
"Can you please hold the bus to the best of your ability? There's still someone in front" I said almost begging.
They all looked at each other then nodded and went to the back of the bus to try and keep it from falling.
I took a deep breath and made my way to the front and I could still feel the bus slipping slowly.
I got to the driver, unbuckled him and carried him on my back then I went to the back again.
The bus shook violently againa and I sped up.
There were a few more people waiting by the window and we had to slip the driver out as well.
Just as he got out, the bus shook even harder and the bus slipped.
I made sure the driver was completely out before the bus could slip completely and he did.
The bus started to fall and I fell with it.
I could hear the shouting and the screaming but I still felt relieved.
Relieved that it was only me.
So I closed my eyes.
And accepted my fate.
