Alissa's

POV

I woke up to the sound of the alarm clock.

I reached for it and turned it off before pushing myself up.

I rubbed my eyes and stretched my arms.

Then, I got off the bed and went to the bathroom to wash up.

After I washed up, I went out of the room.

I looked around the home.

"Mildred?" I called out.

Then, Mildred came out of the other room all dressed up.

"I'm ready" she said with a smile.

I smiled and slightly chuckled.

"Okay, shall we?" I asked.

Mildred nodded and we made our way out.

It was only a little after the sun rose so it was the perfect time to take a walk.

"We should stop by at a café for breakfast before going home. I saw a cafe near the park last night. I think that'll be fun" she said.

I smiled at seeing how excited she is.

"Sure. I think that'll be great" I said and Mildred smiled.

We walked at the same pace as last night to the park and Mildred looked the happiest as she looked around.

"It's so great to be out on this fine day" she said with a smile.

"It is" I agreed.

After some time, we reached the park and unlike last night, there were kids and dogs playing.

Mildred and I sat down on the bench.

"I'm so glad we're outside. Thank you for accompanying me, Lisa" Mildred said.

I smiled at her.

"You're welcome, Mildred. I'd be more than glad to accompany you anytime" I said and Mildred smiled.

We watched the park for a while without talking.

It was such a peaceful day.

"What do you have planned today?" Mildred suddenly asked.

I thought about it.

"I might need to replace a place with computers. I need to search for a job" I said.

"Oh I believe I have my son's old laptop back home. It's pretty old and I don't know how to open it but maybe you can use that?" Mildred said. "That'd be amazing, thank you" I said.

"Anyway, what kind of job are you looking for?" Mildred asked me.

"I'm aiming for a teacher's aide job but if I'm unable to replace one, I'll just go with any job that I can do" I told her.

"Have you dealt with kids before?" she said.

I nodded.

"Yes, for some time I did" I answered.

Mildred nodded and as I watched the park, I saw a suspicious guy walking to a little girl

The little girl was alone.

I watched as he crouched down in front of her and said something.

"Hi there, what's your name?" was what he said.

I was most likely the only one hearing them since they were a bit far away.

The little girl answered him with her name.

"Where's your mom? Your dad?" the man asked.

"My mom went to get me a snack" the little girl answered.

"Really? I have a snack right here. If you want more, I have a lot more in my car" the man said and took out a pack of chocolate and gave it to thr and little girl. My brows furrowed.

"Why don't you come with me so we can get the rest? We'll be back before your mom comes to get you" the man insisted and held the little girl's hand. "Mildred, please wait for me here" I said and I ran to the man and the little girl.

"Excuse me!" I shouted from a distance to get their attention.

As soon as I did that, the man looked at me and he suddenly snatched the girl away and ran.

Oh sht.

I ran faster and I immediately knew the guy had experience because he was running fast despite carrying the child.

The child was already crying but in no time, I caught up to the guy ans grabbed him by the collar and pulled him back.

I was quick to move as I snatched the little girl before he fell to the ground.

I held the little girl protectively and caressed her back as I looked back at the man who tried to take her.

He looked at me annoyed and tried to stand up.

I knew he'd make a run for it.

"You better stay down or I'll break your bones and disable you for the rest of your life" I warned.

He looked at me wide eyed and I looked at the sobbing child in my hands.

"It's okay. He's not going to take you" I said softly.

She started to calm down as she wiped her eyes.

As predicted, the guy tried to make a run for it and I pulled him back to the ground.

"What the hell?!" he shouted.

I raised a brow at him.

"Watch it. I can take your tongue out your mouth if I wanted to" I said and he gulped.

Then, I heard someone calling out and the little girl looked back.

"Mommy!" the little girl shouted and I let her down as she ran to her mother.

"Sht" the man cussed and tried to run again.

This time, I tripped him and when he fell face first to the ground, I grabbed his head and smacked it on the ground. He became unconscious.

"I told you to stay put" I muttered and shook my head in disbelief.

I looked at the mother hugging her child.

"Excuse me, maam" I said and she looked at me.

"You should probably call the cops. That unconscious man right there just tried to kidnap your daughter" I said.

She seemed in surprise and I looked at the little girl as she looked up at me.

"You shouldn't talk or go with strangers, sweetie. You almost lost your mom there" I said and gave her a smile.

"Thank you" she said shyly and I just nodded before walking away.

When I did, the mom called the authorities.

I sighed.

Like I said, no break.

I went back to Mildred and she looked at me wide eyed.

"What happened?" she asked worried.

"Oh just a possible abduction, I think" I said casually.

She looked at me shocked.

I just shrugged.

Anyways.

Mildred and I went home and she searched for her son's laptop that was in storage then gave it to me.

"Thank you, Mildred. I'll return it to you as soon as I can" I said.

"It's fine, dear. Keep it. It's not like I know how to use it or have any use for it" she said.

"Are you sure?" I asked.

Mildred nodded.

"Thank you" I said.

After that, I went back to the bedroom and I started to figure out how to open the laptop.

I charged it first.

Then, I started to clean in my room as I waited for it to open.

After about half an hour, I checked on it amd it still wasn't turning on.

I figured I should wait a little longer so I ended up cleaning the whole house.

Mildred was definitely surprised and amused eith how I decided to spend my time waiting.

After about 3 hours, I checked again and I almost jumped out of joy when I saw that it turned on.

I started fixing the laptop and updating its system.

I wasn't the techy type but I tried my best.

After it charged, started to do a test run and started searching for possible jobs that I can do.

I went through multiple sites and different platforms in the web.

I found a lot of available jobs but I kept searching until I found the ones that I thought were were most suitable for me.

I was looking for a job that I already had experience in if possible.

After searching for hours, I listed the final linr up of the jobs that I saw.

Then, I started making my resume.

It was all new to me since I didn't need a resume when I taught the kids in Sol.

I had to search up how I should make my application properly and found really good tips online.

I used those tips to make my resume and after much time and effort, I finally made it.

I sent the resumes to the emails that were provided for each job offer.

Now, I just have to wait.

Also, I should probably get out and search for other possible options.

After hours of working in my room, I finally got out of the room and saw Mildred in the living room knitting.

"Hi, dear. How are you doing eith your task?" Mildred asked.

"It's okay. Thank you for the laptop. It's a really big help. I promise to take care of it" I assured her.

Mildred smiled at me.

"Can I cook dinner for us?" I asked.

Mildred nodded.

"Go on ahead" she said m

I went to the kitchen and started preparing the ingredients and other needed things to cook dinner.

I started cooking for Mildred and I.

Once I was done, it was just in time for dinner.

I called Mildred and she came and looked at my cooking.

"Wow. These looks delicious" she said.

I smiled.

"Thank you. Please have a seat" I said

Mildred sat down and I made her taste my cooking.

I waited for her reaction and her eyes slightly widened.

"You're an incredible cook, Lisa" she complimented and I blushed.

Then, we both started eating while talking.

Meals always seemed so interesting with Mildred.

We just had so much to talk about.

After that, I fixed up and Mildred offered ti do the dishes since I cooked but I refused.

I wouldn't let her do the dishes even if she begged.

I quickly cleaned up then said goodnight to Mildred because I already felt tired from earlier.

I took a quick shower, dried my hair and flopped down to bed.

I was immediately knocked out.

When I woke up, it was still really early probably because I also fell asleep really early.

I grabbed the laptop again and started searching again.

I founfya few locations that I planned on looking into later in the day.

I listed the locations in a paper.

Then, I got out of bed and showered.

After showering, I got dressed then went out of the room ans in the kitchen.

Mildred wasn't out yet but I did prepare tge ingredients for breakfast already.

Then, I also vacuumed the floor and wiped the tables.

After tgat, I started on breakfast.

Mildred got out of her room when I was in the middle of cooking.

"Good morning, Mildred" I greeted her.

"Good morning to you too, Alissa. Ehat are you making?" she asked.

"Pancakes" I said.

"How did you know that Iblove pancakes?" she said.

I smiled and chuckled.

"A hunch" I said and she chuckled as well.

Mildred sat down and watched me cook.

After I finished, I served her the breakfast and we sat down on the table together.

Again, we started chatting about thr most random things.

I then told her that I needed to go out to look for a job and she wished me good luck.

After our meal, I cleaned up again and once I was done, I changed into something more casual.

I said goodbye to Mildred then left.

I used the bus as transportation to wherever I needed to go to.

For hours, I went to different locations and applied for a job.

I didn't have a contact number so it was extremely difficult.

After hours of applying for a job, I finally took a rest in a cafe.

I ordered myself a refresher and I just relaxed foe a bit as I watched everyone walk pass the cafe I was in.

This is my reality now.

Tall buildings.

Cars.

Big roads.

Humans all over the place.

Public places.

I never would've thought I'd be here but I am now.

And there's no going back.
