The Werewolf King’s Runaway Queen -
Chapter 115
Alissa Soleil's POV
13 years later...
There was a knock on a my door as I scanned through my patients' medical records.
"Come in" I said.
A nurse peaked inside.
"Dr. Ellis" the nurse.
"Yes? Come in" I said.
The nurse came in with a chart.
"Can you please this patient's chart please?" she asked politely.
I nodded.
"Of course. Come here" I said and she came to me.
I checked the chart for her and authorize the treatments needed.
"Thank you, Dr. Ellis" she sais and left with a polite smile.
"You're welcome. Let me know if you need anything else" I said and she nodded.
She left the room and I continued reviewing my patients' records.
It's been 13 years since I started college.
Since then, I've graduated college, went to medical school, did my internship, graduated college, passed my boards, started my residency, finished my residency in 3 years and am now working as an licensed General Surgeon for 2 years. The door opened again and I looked up to see Calum as he went inside.
"Do you need your office back?" I asked.
Calum chuckled.
"At this rate, it's pretty much your office now too" he said and looked at my stuff on the table in the side of the room.
I chuckled awkwardly.
"What are you doing?" he asked as he walked up to me and stood behind me.
"I'm reviewing my patients' records and noting down details for their possible after care" I said.
"Hm" he reacted and then leaned on his table and faced me.
"News have been going around that you're doing another pro bono surgery" he said.
I pursed my lips and stopped what I was doing to meet his eyes.
"Oh really? That's interesting" I said acting innocent.
Calum scoffed.
"This is what? Your 3rd pro bono this month alone?" he said
"Hey. You're not one to talk. You did your 2nd pro bono this month just yesterday" I said.
Calum bit his lower lip and chuckled.
We both chuckled thinking about it.
Calum is my guy bestfriend.
He's the same age as I am except he's been a surgeon for 5 years. He's 3 years ahead of me.
We met in college when I was a freshman and he was a senior.
He was the one who lent me his pen when I was enrolling.
When I started my residency, he just finished his.
It's in the same hospital we're working in now.
Actually, this hospital along with some other few hospitals all over the country belong to Calum's family.
He and his family are one of the most in demand doctors in the country and I could understand why.
Aside from being extremely talented doctors, they were also very kind and generous.
That's why they're very well known all over.
Since Calum and I have been friends for 13 years, I'm actually really close to his family and that's one of the reasons why a lot of people think that I got my job here in the hospital because of Calum. But I personally think I'm doing a good job at proving them wrong since I'm doing quite a good job myself.
That reminded of something.
"You know what else is going around the hospital?" I said.
Calum looked at me curiously.
"That it's our 3rd year anniversary" I said.
Calum laughed and I bit my lower lip trying to hold back.
"Oh really?" he said.
I nodded.
"It's true. A little birdie told me" I said and Calum chuckled.
I'm close to almost all the nurses in the hospital except for the ones who have a huge obsession with Calum and the newly hired nurses.
I'm also close to the other doctors except for the new residents that were accepted not too long ago.
I figured they'll eventually come around.
Most of them do when they get to meet me.
"Should I take you to dinner then?" he said teasingly.
I chuckled.
"Sorry to break your heart but I've already got a date tonight" I said.
He raised a brow at me.
"And who might this person be that you are cheating on me with?" he said.
I rolled my eyes with a chuckle.
"I'm taking Ma out for dinner. I'll let her know that you accused her of being a third party" I said.
Calum's eyes slightly widened.
"I was kidding!" he defended himself.
I shook my head in disbelief to tease him as I grabbed my finished notes and the records.
"Right" I said as I stood up.
"You're not going to tell on me, are you?" he said as he followed me when I walked out of his office.
"We'll see" I teased.
"Soleil, I was kidding. Don't tell Ma. I know you don't actually have someone" he said.
That was true but I still think it was a bit offensive.
I looked at him and dramatically gasped.
"I'm offended. How are you so sure that I don't have a secret boyfriend?" I said.
Calum raised a brow at me.
"You spend most of your time here in the hospital, you go straight back home to Ma after your work is done and the only time you actually go out is when you take Ma out. There are plenty of guys who ask you out but it's always a clear 'no' from you" he said. I pursed my lips. "True enough" I said and Calum chuckled.
"I was kidding about telling Ma. Now, leave me alone. I need to talk to my patients" I said.
Calum stopped me and lightly held ny arm.
I looked at him and he took a small energy drink from his coat and slipped it in mine.
"When you're done, let's eat lunch together" he said.
I nodded.
"Okay" I said and Calum slightly smiled before letting me go.
I took the elevator down to my patients' floor and Calum waved me goodbye as the elevator door closed.
I chuckled.
I met up with my patients and gave them personalized notes for their aftercare.
It's a habit of mine to help ensure they recover properly.
"That's Dr. Soleil Ellis, right?"
I started hearing the conversations while I was at the floor checking on other patients.
It was a daily occurrence.
Since I'm still part werewolf, my senses are still advanced compared to humans.
"She's so pretty. No wonder she pulled Dr. Williams"
"They're dating?"
"I think so. Everyone says they are. I mean, they always see each other and they're always together. If they're not dating, then I don't know what they are"
I held back a laugh as I bit my lower lip while going through a patient's chart.
"What are you guys talking about?"
"Dr. Ellis is on the floor. She's over there"
"What about her?"
"Isn't she so pretty? I talked to her once and she was really nice too"
"Ellis? She's okay, I guess"
"Just okay? She's beautiful and she's a talented surgeon. She's the only qualified General Surgeon that surpassed this hospital's standard aside from Dr. Calum Williams" Another person butt in.
It was from a familiar voice and I recognized it as one of the nurse that I was close with.
"Really? You think it isn't because she's in a relationship with Dr. Williams. Please"
"Are you implying that she got in through connections? You think that the Williams family is that shallow?"
"W-what? I didn't say that. I was just talking about her. I'm not necessarily pinning it on the Williams family"
I smirked.
"Really? Because to me, it seemed like that was what you were implying"
"N-no, of course not. Ugh! Whatever"
I smiled in satisfaction.
I finished checking on the patient and turned to look at the nurses.
They all immediately looked away except for one.
I smiled and waved at her and she smiled back at me.
Nice.
I walked over to them and the 2 other nurses talking about me looked uneasy.
The one who was bad mouthing me earlier probably already walked out.
"Good afternoon, Dr. Ellis" the nurse who defended me greeted me.
"Good afternoon to you too, Betty" I greeted back with a smile and looked at the 2 other nurses.
"Hello, ladies" I greeted them as well.
"Good afternoon, Dr."
"Good afternoon, Dr. Ellis"
I smiled then looked at me lunch.
It's about time I have my lunch.
"Betty, I already checked my patients and a few more other patients. Please let me know if they need anything else. I'll just have my lunch since it's already 3pm" I said. Betty nodded.
"Okay, Dr." she said.
"Thanks, Betty. You're a real one" I said and gave her a wink before walking away.
My phone beeped inside my coat and I looked at it.
From: Cal
I'm already in the cafeteria. Should I get your food?
I typed in a reply.
To: Cal
Yes, please. I'm on my way now. Thank you
Then, I sent it.
I took the elevator and made my way to the cafeteria.
When I got there, Calum was already in our usual table.
A pair of nurses came to him and said something to him.
They were giggling as they talked to him but Calum had a very neutral expression.
I was watching them from a distance when Calum turned his head and saw me.
Our eyes met and his expression changed.
Then, he motioned for me to come already.
As I walked over to him, the nurses did not look too happy to see me and they said goodbye to Calum.
Calum stood up and pulled my seat for me then I sat down.
"Thank you" I said and looked at my food.
I smiled.
"They're serving your favorite today" he said.
"Lucky me" I said.
Cal and I started eating.
"The nurses seem very fond of you. What department were they in?" I asked curiously.
"I don't know. I wasn't really paying attention" he said with a shrug.
I was able to glance at their name plates earlier and I knew they were from the Cardiology department.
It was the same department where a lot of the nurses did not seem to like me.
It's also the department where the doctor who despised me so much belonged in.
That same doctor also happened to be Calum's ex.
"Oh really? You didn't notice?" I said.
Calum sighed and I raised a brow at him teasingly.
"I think I know. And I'm quite infamous in that department" I said.
Calum suddenly chuckled.
"Yeah" he agreed.
"I'm quite convinced that she brainwased her nurses to disliking you" he said.
I chuckled.
I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.
Calum's ex is...spiteful.
Calum sighed.
"Never knew an ex from high school could hold such a grudge on you" he said
We both chuckled.
Yes, in high school.
They broke up before Cal graduated college.
She's a year younger than us and has only been in this hospital for a year.
She did her 5 year residency in another hospital and worked their for like a year then was transferred in the hospital were in now.
She was a problem the first day she got here specially when she confirmed that I was indeed close to Calum.
"Can't believe you were into mean girls" I teased.
"I regret it too" he said and we both chuckled.
Calum and I changed the subject and just started talking about things that were out of work for a little while.
Then...
"We're having an outreach program next month. Mom wanted to ask you if you wanted to come with? My dad will stay behind, he can stay here while we're gone for the weekend" he said. "Next month? Sounds good to me. I'd love to come along and help" I said.
Calum nodded.
"I'll tell mom. She'll be happy to know that her favorite person is coming along" Cal said and I chuckled.
We finished eating and put our tray away.
"I'll tell Ma about it and see what arrangements we can do while I'm gone" I said.
"I'm sure my sister will be more than willing to take her in for the weekend again. Callie said she enjoyed Ma's company and she's been waiting to spend time with her again" he said.
I thought about
it.
I know Callie will look after Ma well.
I nodded.
"Okay" I said.
Then, suddenly our beepers made a sound and Cal and I glanced at each other.
Then, we made a run for it.
Another day, another patient to help.
