Luke's

POV

I stood outside Alissa's door and contemplated in going in.

I took a deep breath and quietly opened the door.

The lights were off and only the light from the moonlight outside entering the glass of the balcony door was coming inside the room.

I quietly walked over to Alissa's bed and I saw her sleeping there with a book by her head.

I smiled a little as I carefully picked up the book and placed it on the bedside table.

I reached out for her blanket and covered her properly.

Then, I stared at her.

I wanted to touch and caress her face.

She looks as beautiful as ever.

She looked at peace when she was sleeping and rarely when she was with me.

My jaw clenched at the thought.

I stared at her a little more until I decided to leave.

"Hmm...L-Luke"

I stopped and looked back at Alissa.

Her brows furrowed while still.

"Luke..." she called out my name.

I reached out to touch her. I wanted to let her know that I was here. That I was with her.

But I stopped and clenched my fist as I stepped back.

I can't.

I shouldn't.

I hurried to get out of her room without managing to wake her up.

Then, I marched towards the balcony.

The cold breeze of air hitting my face.

I sighed and looked down.

Was it the right decision to do all of this?

I want to be with Alissa but I know so well that she doesn't feel the same way.

The only reason she ever considered us was because of her wolf.

But she belongs to me.

We belong to each other.

We're supposed to be true mates. The other half of each other.

And yet, here we are.

I looked at the moon.

"I'm sorry" I said.

Then, I remembered what happened then.

Flashback...

It hasn't been long since I left the Palace to settle a few things outside the palace territory.

Alissa and I rarely talk through the phone or in our link.

I think it's just because we aren't exactly used to connecting or communicating with each other like other wolves with mates.

But I do get updated with what she does 24/7 by my men and my brother, Lucas.

So far, all she's doing is training, hanging out with my sister Lia and/or her little brother Bryan.

Alissa is more than just skilled in fighting. She's hard working, persistent and smart.

She spends a lot of her time training since she got to the palace and I don't stop her from doing that because it's something she's passionate about doing.

The only thing I dislike about it is the fact that she's around Kalil more often than she should.

I know that she says that she's just her friend but I wasn't stupid. I known how she used to like him and I know how he likes her.

I'm not dumb nor am I densed.

I can still remember the way Alissa looked at Kalil when we were younger. He was the only she looked at that way.

Her eyes gleamed differently around him in the past and it was obvious that she had a huge crush on him. The memory pissed me off.

As for Kalil, I'm not an idiot to not notice the way he looks at my mate.

He has feelings for her. Then and now.

He might try to keep it as discreet as he can but I know that look he gives her. He's always looked at her that way.

Him leaving to 'replace his mate' was a move that he did so that he can convince himself that he could still get rid of any feelings he had for her because he knew she wasn't for him. I would know.

I've been there too.

"Your highness"

I turned to look and saw a guard standing just outside my door with an anxious look on her face.

"What is it?" I asked.

The guard gulped.

"Miss...miss M-mallory is outside, sir" he stuttered.

I froze on my spot.

"She uh...she demands that she wants to...see you" the guard said.

My brows furrowed as I clenched my fist.

How dare she show up where I am.

How dare she even demand to see him.

That thick faced btch.

"I do not want to fcking see that btch. Drag her away if you must. I don't care. I do not wish to see or talk to her" I said sternly.

The guard nodded as he rushed to leave.

My blood boiled.

The mere mention of that girl's name makes me livid.

Mallory. My ex-fiance.

She's one of the biggest of my life.

Someone I would like to completely forget and leave in the past.

During my low point in life and because of the anger that I felt for being left by my mate, I resorted to seeing other women. Mallory was the one who I was in a relationship with.

Because I was so angry of Alissa for leaving, I wanted to replace her and Mallory was the one who I ended up choosing. Unfortunately.

Most people think that Mallory and I had a good relationship. It was what we showed everyone around us.

But we both knew the truth well.

I used her in bed and she used my family's money.

There wasn't any real feelings.

It was purely for pleasure but no one knew about that except us.

I asked her to marry me because I figured it would be for the best that I completely forgot about Alissa and move forward.

Also, so I could provide a Queen for my people.

Looking back at it, she would have made an awful Queen.

None of my family members or loved ones approved of her but they didn't question me either.

And then, she cheated on me and runaway with her true mate.

I was livid when I found out but it wasn't because I loved her.

It was because I felt betrayed all over again and I hated her ever since so how dare she?

How dare she show up in my doorstep again after what she did?

"Luke!"

I turned around and saw her. The person I dreaded to see the most.

She was being stopped ans dragged by my guards but she wouldn't budge.

She looked at me with those fake innocent eyes.

What does she want now?

End of Flashback...

I sighed.

I shouldn't have left.

I shouldn't have talked to her when she came.

But I did.

And I regret it.

But I think I'll regret what I'm going to do next even more.

I jumped from the balcony and landed on my feet.

Then, I made my way to the woods and walked to the borders.

I knew where there weren't any guards roaming around so I didn't have a problem in getting caught or leaving the palace territory.

Even as I walked, I kept having second thoughts but I needed to do this.

I needed to see for myself.

I was almost at the end when I heard rustling from behind me.

My brows furrowed as I stopped.

"And where are you going this late at night, your highness?"

I turned around and saw uncle Rainer.

He crossed his arms in front of his chest as he looked at me.

"I'm going out of the territory to settle some things" I said.

Uncle Rainer's brows furrowed.

"Without your guards?" he said.

"It's personal" I told him.

He raised a brow at me and I sighed.

"I'll be fine. It's not like I'm a push over or something. I'll come back in one piece" I said.

"You better. You're getting married tomorrow after all" he said.

I bit my inner lower lip.

"Go" he said.

I nodded and continued to leave.

I went through a passage that led outside the palace territory.

Then, I took off my clothes to shift so I could have clothes later on.

I shifted to my wolf and I put my clothes in my mouth.

Then, I started running.

A part of me wanted to just go back and be with my mate.

But a big part of me wanted to know the truth.

I hated myself for that.

I ran and ran and ran without stopping.

Minutes turned into hours and the sun was already up.

After hours of running, I finally reached my destination.

This is the destination she has given me.

I shouldn't be here but yet, here I am.

This is a mistake.

But I still went towards the house.

I went to the back, shifted back to my human form and then put my clothes on.

Then, I walked over to the back door and I stood there.

I gulped as I raised my hand to knock.

I knocked and I heard footsteps from inside then it opened and I saw HER.

The last person I wanted to see in this life.

She smiled when she saw me.

"I knew you'd come" she said.

I frowned.

"I didn't come here for you" I said.

She still smiled.

"Come in. I'll make you some coffee" she said and stepped aside.

My brows furrowed at her.

"I'm not staying for long. I just want to see him" I said.

"Oh but you'll have to wait. He's at a doctor's appointment with a friend right now" she said.

I scoffed.

"Do you think I'm an idiot?" I said and stepped back.

She stepped out.

"Oh come on. Don't you want to see him?" she said.

I clenched my fists.

"Come on now" she said and motioned for me to follow her inside.

In the end, I did.

We went to the living room and she motioned for me to sit down.

"Water? Juice? Coffee? Anything?" she asked.

I looked at her with a frown.

"No, thanks. I didn't come here to be poisoned" I said.

She laughed and I just looked at her in disbelief.

"You're so funny" she said.

My jaw clenched in annoyance.

"I'll make you a cup of coffee, okay?" she said and left to go to the kitchen.

As soon as she left, I looked around.

The house wasn't too small.

Just enough for 2-3 people.

It was clean and well organized.

I saw little touches from here and there that I knew was made by Mallory.

There was also a second floor.

I looked around but couldn't replace any photographs whatsoever in the first floor.

So I made my way upstairs.

I looked around more and ended up outside of a room.

I opened it and realized that it was the master's bedroom.

This one had more touches of Mallory.

The vanity table, rack of designer clothes and bags on display.

Her scent was also all over the place.

I kept looking around and saw nothing I was looking for there.

My brows furrowed again.

Did she deceive me again?

Was it a lie?

A trap?

I was so angry as I marched out of the room.

I was going to go downstairs and leave but I spotted another room.

I walked over to the door and stood there for a moment.

This is the last time.

I opened the door and as soon as I did, I found what I was looking for.

I gulped as I walked inside.

My eyes roamed around nervously.

The scent inside was definitely real.

Someone was here not too long ago.

He was here.

I saw a frame by a table and I slowly walked towards it.

I picked it up and saw a photograph of him.

My eyes widened when I saw how he looked.

Fck.

This can't be.

It can't be.

"Isn't he so beautiful?"

I turned around to see Mallory by the door with a cup of coffee in her hand.

She smiled at me mischievously as I felt like my world was falling apart.

"Surprise" she said with a smile.

Fck.
