The Werewolf King’s Runaway Queen -
Chapter 58
Luke's
POV
I stood at a distance as I watch the people in front of the palace move frantically.
My heart squeezed inside of my chest.
I sighed and made my way to the back without getting noticed by anyone then I snuck in from the back.
There weren't many guards or helpers inside since they were busy outside for the wedding.
My wedding.
Alissa and I's wedding.
I sneaked into my room and closed the door behind me.
As soon as I turned around, I saw my mother. I hadn't noticed her earlier.
She looked at me with an expressionless face. The one she makes that can make anyone shiver.
"Where have you been?" she asked with a cold tone.
I didn't answer.
She tilted her head to the side and I looked away.
"Was this how I raised you?" she said.
My jaw tightened as I can feel the disappointment in her voice.
"I'm not sure what's going on but I know for a fact that you're in the wrong whatever your reason might be" she stated.
"Now, I can replace out whatever it is that's going through your head but I'm not going to do that. You're already an adult and you should know better" she said as she stood up and walked towards me.
I looked at her and when I did, my mother's hand connected to my face with a slap.
I gulped as I looked down.
"I'm disappointed in you, Luke" she said then she left the room with me still standing still.
I closed my eyes as I clenched my fists.
I'm disappointed in myself too.
I looked at my bed and saw my clothes for the wedding on top of it.
I walked over to look at it and massaged the bridge of my nose.
I shouldn't have forced and rushed Alissa to be with me after everything I've done to her.
I'm an a-hole and she deserves better.
But then again, I can't live without her.
And her wolf and my own have already connected.
There's no turning back now.
If I had let her go when she refused to be with me, things would have been different.
But I let my greed get the best of me.
I was selfish and unfair to her.
I did what I wanted and didn't consider what she wanted.
A tear fell from my eye as I fell to my knees and clenched on my bed.
Then, the door to my room opened again and I froze.
"Get dressed. Everyone's still waiting for you. Alissa...has been waiting for you"
It was Lucas.
The cold tone in his voice was something I rarely heard.
But it was evident now.
I didn't dare to look at my brother as I grabbed my clothes and got dressed.
I finished and made my way out of my room.
Standing outside was my brother.
He looked at me coldly then walked away and I followed him.
We were both quiet as we made our way downstairs and outside the palace.
I expected him to punch and curse at me but he didn't.
Lucas was a lot closer to Liana than I ever was.
She treated him like a younger brother and Lucas saw her as an older sister.
We reached the doors and I stood behind Lucas when we stopped.
Then, my brother turned to look at me and I met his eyes.
"You don't fcking deserve her. Don't fcking forget that" he said with gritted teeth before turning his back on me.
The guards opened the door and we were both revealed to everyone outside.
Lucas walked first and stepped aside so I could walk to the front on the red carpet.
The people outside looked at me with relief as I walked to the front while there was piano music being played in the background.
I reached the front of the altar and stood there as I looked at the palace doors.
After a few moments, it opened again.
Standing from a distance was her.
Alissa.
The amazing woman who I've always adored from afar.
My heart sank inside my chest as I saw her in her wedding dress and I watch as she walked on the red carpet with an expressionless face.
I was sure right then and there that I've messed up big time and there was nothing I could do to make it up to her.
For the first time in a while, I met her eyes.
But they were different today.
Today, I could only see hate and disappointment as she looked at me.
And I deserved it.
I deserve to be hated by her. No matter how painful it was for me.
Alissa reached the front as well and stopped just beside me.
I offered my arm to her and she looked at it for a moment before using her fingers to lightly hold on to the fabric of my coat.
I wanted to sigh but didn't as we went to the altar together and she immediately took her hands off me.
The ceremony started and as the wedding progressed, my world slowly crumbled down on me.
I glanced at Alissa hoping to feel better by seeing her face and by being close to her.
But her expression only discouraged me even more than I already was.
I don't blame her. She's mad at me and she must hate me even more now.
She said she didn't hate me before but I'm sure she does now.
The wedding ceremony continued and I kept stealing glances of Alissa from time to time but she never once looked my way.
Then, the part of the wedding that I dreaded the most finally came.
"Do you, his highness King Luke Alaric take Lady Alissa Ford to be your lawfully wedded wife, to live together in matrimony, to love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health, in sorrow and in joy, to have and to hold, from this day forward, as long as you both shall live?" the officiant said.
I looked at Alissa and she looked back at me.
"I do" I answered.
The officiant turned to Alissa.
"Do you, Lady Alissa Ford take his highness King Luke Alaric to be your lawfully wedded wife, to live together in matrimony, to love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health, in sorrow and in joy, to have and to hold, from this day forward, as long as you both shall live?" the officiant asked again.
I could hear the thumping inside my chest as Alissa just looked at me.
She didn't answer and just stared at me.
"Lady Alissa" the officiant called her name since she wasn't answering.
I saw her jaw clench as she sighed and avoided my gaze.
"I do" she said in the most forced tone I've heard.
I almost sighed in relief.
But it isn't over yet.
"By the power vested in me by the moon goddess and wolvesl, I pronounce you wife and husband; mates. What the moon goddess has joined together, let no ond put asunder. You may now kiss the bride" teh officiant said.
I looked at Alissa and before I could do anything, shw stepped towards me, placed her hand on my nape and turned both of us while pulling me closer.
I was taken aback because I didn't think she'd make the move considering how she felt about me at the moment.
But then...
We were only centimeters apart when Alissa stopped and she closed her eyes for a moment.
I was going to move closer but I felt hwr grip tighten on my nape.
"Don't even get an idea" she said and opened her eyes then stared straight into my eyes.
Then, she pulled away and I heard the clapping of the crowd.
Alissa faced them with a fake smile and my jae tightened as I too faced my people.
"As per tradition, the King's mate shall be crowned after the wedding has taken place" the officiant announced.
"But as for the former Queen and the most powerful wolf to ever lives's request, a separate coronation shall take place on a later date" he said.
My brows furrowed in shock and people started whispering as well.
I turned to look in my mom's direction and she just looked at me with her head raised.
I bit my lower lip as I looked down and sighed.
Then I glanced at Alissa and saw her confused look as well.
She didn't know either.
I looked at my family's direction again and saw nothing but disbelief on their faces.
The guests were guided inside the palace for the wedding reception and even before I could talk to Alissa, my sister came and basically shoved me away and held on to my mate.
"Let's go inside and change into something more comfortable, okay?" Liana said clinging to Alissa.
Then, they walked faster away from me.
"Luke"
I turned to look at Lucas and as soon as I did, I received a punch from him.
I should've expected it already.
"Where the hell were you?!" he growled and held me by the collar.
My father pulled him off me and held him back.
"You didn't talk to Alissa for days. Left without telling anyone where you'd go or when you'd be back. And you made your bride wait for you in your wedding day that you forced on her! What kind of sick fvck are you?!" he screamed at me. I stood there looking down.
"Enough, Lucas" my mother said in a firm tone.
My father calmed Lucas down and pulled him away.
My mother stayed.
"Get changed. You have a blood stain on your shirt" she said calmly and walked away.
I closed my eyes as I tightened my jaw then sighed.
I walked to the back of the palace to enter from there.
Then, I went into my room and went to the bathroom and washed my face.
I removed my coat and blood stained shirt and threw them to the side as I clenched on the bathroom sink.
I looked in the mirror.
"They're all right. You don't deserve her" I said.
My eyes glowed green and a low growl emitted from inside of me involuntarily.
It was my wolf, of course.
I sighed and went out to grab a white button down shirt from my closet and wore it after wiping my face.
I contemplated on going back down but I figured it would be worse if I didn't so I left my room.
I walked in the hallway with guilty steps.
What I was feeling was rare.
I have got to admit that majority of my life, I held on to the mindset that I'll always stand my ground and never show my vulnerability.
But everything came crumbling down on me and all I could feel at the moment was the feeling of helplessness.
I dreaded seeing everyone again.
I wouldn't be surprised if everyone who would interact with me would ask why I had been late to my own wedding.
I made my way downstairs and walked towards the ballroom where the reception was being held.
I entered the ballroom as quietly as I could so that not a lot of people would notice my presence.
But a lot of people still did as they greeted and congratulated me and I gave them a simple nod of acknowledgement.
I walked over to where uncle Rainer was sitting at.
Once he saw me, I knew he wouldn't be too happy but he still motioned for me to sit beside him and I did.
Then, he grabbed a bottle of wine from a helper that passed by and then took a glass and put it in front of me.
He poured me a glass of wine without a word.
Then, he looked at me.
"You messed up, kid" he said.
I sighed.
"I know" I said and drank the glass of wine in one ago.
I know I messed up.
