Chapter 44

Chapter 44 His Momentum

Although her voice was loud, no one looked at Lily.

Even Anthony and his bodyguard, Jack, completely ignored her.

Of course, as the hostess of the villa, Julie felt embarrassed by Lily's rude and abrupt behavior.Shecouldn't believe that Lily would have the audacity to act so poorly in front of such an important guest.

Even if Maria truly made a mistake, Lily shouldn't have heedlessly exposed them to other people andbrought shame to the entire Jenkins family.

Now, Julie was getting uneasy. She reckoned it was highly possible that Anthony would end upcanceling his engagement to Maria because of this unfortunate incident.

After all, she couldn't replace herself believing the rumors that Anthony was now nothing but a uselesscripple.

Despite relying on his wheelchair to move around, she felt that this former heir of the Wilson family wasactually hiding his real power.

If she was right about him, then Julie thought that Vivian could have been too rash about not wanting toget engaged to him.

Meanwhile, Maria stepped away from Julie and walked towards Anthony.

"Shall we go?"

As she stood in front of Anthony, Maria discreetly glanced at Jack.

Right then, Jack immediately understood and honored what it meant. He nodded at Maria and quicklytook a few steps back.

After Jack cleared the spot for her, Maria walked behind Anthony and took over the handles of thewheelchair.

"Let him do it."

A little surprised, Anthony slightly turned his head towards Maria.

"I'm heavy. You'll get tired and won't enjoy the rest of the night."

Despite his protest, Maria shook her head and clenched the handles.

"No.I'll take care of you tonight.Besides, you shouldn't worry about me.I'm pretty strong. You'll see."

Anthony found it odd how Maria could be so confident. He was 6.2 feet tall, well-built man.

In addition to the weight of the wheelchair, she would be pushing more than two hundred pounds oftotal weight.

To his surprise, however, Maria pushed the wheelchair with ease. She looked like a skillful wife so usedto taking care of her sick husband.

Anthony couldn't help but smile at the thought.

He imagined Maria must have been practicing so she could act more naturally at the banquet later andmake the guests believe that she and Anthony were engaged and in love.

Of course, he appreciated how thoughtful she was.

Then he remembered the day when they made a deal and she had promised to play her role dutifullyfor a year.

"W-what's going on?"

Julie was sure that Anthony would get angry at Maria, but he didn't even pay attention to what Lily saidearlier.

In the middle of her confusion, Julie's eyes suddenly opened wide.

A thought entered her mind, which might explain what was actually happening.

Why was Anthony here in the first place? Could it be that the two of them actually had plans to go outtonight? What a blunder! They accused Maria of cheating behind her fiance without even asking herwhom she was going out with.

"By the way..."

Anthony raised his right hand, gesturing Maria to stop for a moment.

At the same time, Maria stopped pushing the wheelchair at his signal.

Ever since Anthony arrived at the villa of the Jenkins family, he kept a gentle smile.

However, at this moment, as his gaze shifted in the direction of Julie and Lily, the pleasant smile on hishandsome face gradually disappeared.

Just like when Maria got fed up with Lily earlier, it felt like the temperature suddenly dropped themoment Anthony's expression became serious.

In fact, when Lily's gaze met his, she instantly had a strong urge to run away and save her life.

She even had a hallucination that Anthony's eyes were that of a deadly serpent. It was as if he waslooking at her, a toad that should become his prey.

"I made a schedule with Maria tonight to go to a certain party. But I can't help noticing that there seemsto be a misunderstanding."

After a brief pause, Anthony turned to Julie and said, "Don't worry.I'm not someone with a dubiouscharacter, and she will only be with me tonight."

"Y-yes.Of course, we trust you.We just didn't know..."

Julie's voice trailed off.She was at a loss.

Anthony didn't raise his voice, but the momentum he showed could make one weak in the knees. It wasmore nerve-wracking than an angry roar.

Julie deemed that she should explain further to clear things out.

"I'm sorry that I began to overthink.I know that Maria is very sensible and wouldn't do anythingunbecoming of her..."

Hearing this, Anthony nodded approvingly.

Eventually, a gentle smile appeared on his face again.

The heavy pressure and atmosphere were also alleviated.

Finally, Julie and Lily could breathe a sigh of relief.

Anthony didn't look at Lily again, but instead cast a casual glance at Jack.

Afterward, Maria started pushing the wheelchair again until they got out of the house.

When Maria and Anthony were out of sight, Jack turned around.

"Mrs.Jenkins, the homemaking company where your maid works at is actually under the WilsonGroup. We regret to tell you that after seeing her poor performance and service to the Jenkinsfamily...The company shall dismiss her, and withdraw all her qualifications and honorary title."
