To Be Yours Again novel (Alec and Jenny) -
Chapter 1000 Don't Want You to Leave Me
In the ward, Jenny sat quietly beside the hospital bed without saying a word. Evan had remained silent since he woke up, not even saying a word to Jenny when he saw her. Seeing him like that, Jenny felt worried.
"Evan..." she said.
"Don't worry. I'm fine," Evan said with a smile. Even at that moment, he could still smile and tell Jenny that he was okay, not wanting her to worry too much.
"Fine? How could he be fine? He has to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. No one would be able to accept such an outcome calmly!" Jenny exclaimed inwardly.
"We're already contacting the best doctors for you. There must be a way," Jenny said, worried he was suppressing his emotions.
It was better to let it out at times like this instead of bottling it all up.
Hearing her say "we," Evan knew she was referring to herself and Alec. For some reason, he felt particularly displeased upon hearing that.
"Jenny, if I have to spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair, will you stay by my side?" Evan suddenly asked as he looked at her.
Jenny was stunned by his words. Even Alec, who was standing outside by the door, was visibly shaken. He wanted to barge in and ask Jenny to refuse Evan's request, but he knew it would be futile. If Jenny decided to say "yes," he couldn't stop her even if he went in.
Jenny pursed her lips and looked at Evan. "Evan, are you saying that—"
"I just don't want you to leave me. I've become useless. If you leave me too, I don't know how I can live," Evan declared, smiling bitterly.
Jenny didn't say anything. She understood what Evan meant. Even though she wanted to refuse him, upon meeting his sad eyes, she knew she couldn't bring herself to do it. He became like this because he saved her. Without him, it could have been her sitting in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. She couldn't be so selfish as to deny his request.
"Haha. I'm just kidding. Don't worry about it. Just pretend I said nothing-"
"Evan," Jenny cut him off. "As long as you're bound to the wheelchair, I'll care for you every single day. Don't worry. I won't leave you."
Evan was surprised. He didn't expect Jenny to agree so quickly.
Outside the ward, Alec seemed to lose all his strength in an instant. He understood what Jenny's words implied and found it hard to accept. They were about to progress to the next level, but now, because of Evan, fate forcibly pulled them apart once more.
When Jenny came out of the ward, she immediately saw Alec sitting on the bench. He sat there with his hands holding his head, looking very distressed, and that made Jenny feel sad. She surmised he must have heard what she said in the ward just now.
"Alec," Jenny called out to him. "I'm hungry. Let's go eat breakfast."
Because Evan woke up suddenly, she hadn't finished her breakfast before hurrying over. Now that she was done checking on him, she felt a bit hungry.
Alec looked up at Jenny and tried to say something, but in the end, he just nodded and said, "Okay."
Inside the ward, the two of them silently ate breakfast without saying a word. Jenny couldn't quite taste the sumptuous breakfast that should have been delicious. She put down her spoon and looked at the person next to her.
"Did you hear what I said to Evan just now?"
"No." Alec shook his head. He could pretend he didn't know anything as long as he denied hearing anything she'd said to Evan.
"Alec, don't lie to yourself." Jenny was sure that Alec had heard it; otherwise, he wouldn't have reacted like that.
With a clang, Alec threw his plate and cutlery on the table and looked at Jenny with reddened eyes. "Yes! I heard it!" he bellowed exasperatedly.
"So, what do you want to tell me?"
