To Be Yours Again novel (Alec and Jenny)
Chapter 1136 Taking the Money

Jenny and Alec shared a glance. He nodded, indicating that he was alright with anything that she said.

"Everyone should just take a step back," Jenny said. She looked at Paul. "You should know that my brother will never take responsibility for Marigold. Hence, you should let it go."

"What do you think?" Paul was cold. "Gilbert is your brother. Of course, you'd help him."

"I couldn't force him to do what he doesn't want to do even if he wasn't my brother," Jenny retorted. Paul was unwilling to solve the problem.

Paul sneered. He wouldn't have paid attention to Jenny if it weren't for Alec.

"Gilbert, this might not be your responsibility, but it has already happened. You have to compensate them in some way." Jenny looked at her brother. She was indeed there to resolve their problem. She didn't want them to hold this against each other.

It wouldn't benefit either Marigold or Gilbert.

Gilbert didn't object, letting Jenny continue.

"You can't support her emotionally, that's for sure. That leaves you with the more materialistic option." In other words, money.

Before Gilbert could react, Paul said, dissatisfied, "What do you mean, Jenny? Do you think the Wagners are broke? I didn't come here looking for his money."

If it was money they were discussing, the Wagners were much richer than Gilbert.

"That's the Wagners' business. This money is for Marigold and has nothing to do with you. You have no right to refuse on her behalf." Jenny didn't think that Marigold would refuse. She was stubborn but not a fool. Once the child was born, the expenses would be through the roof. Whether Gilbert liked it or not, that was his child. He had to pay.

Paul wanted to retort, but in the end, he didn't.

"Alright. I agree." Gilbert did not hesitate much. He just wanted to settle it quickly. "Will she stop pestering me once she gets the money?"

"You fucking..." Paul couldn't bear it anymore, but Alec clamped his hand over his mouth.

Gilbert wasn't afraid of him. The most that Paul could do was beat him up again. "I don't care what you say. I will never recognize that child as my own."

He was willing to pay up only because he didn't want to embarrass Jenny and wanted the matter settled quickly.

Behind the screen, tears welled up in Marigold's eyes. She didn't let them fall. She was no longer the Marigold from before. Now, she had someone to protect. She couldn't be weak.

Jenny was right. Marigold needed the money that Gilbert gave. It didn't matter if Gilbert believed it or not. This was his child. Hence, she wouldn't feel guilty about taking his money. "That's settled then. My brother will pay Marigold child support. We'll put out the other fires when they crop up." What if Gilbert thought the child was cute and regretted his decision later on? Marigold would have the right to call the shots if that ever happened.

Jenny was actually looking forward to seeing Gilbert be tortured by Marigold. That would be fun to see.

No one said anything else. Gilbert wrote a check on the spot. It was basically all of the capital he had. The nine figures would enable Marigold to raise the child very well, even without the Wagners' help. They weren't broke, but they had to admit that this amount was large for Gilbert. It was a lesson learned for him.

From now on, he would not get drunk in public and allow another Marigold to appear.
