To Be Yours Again novel (Alec and Jenny) -
Chapter 1382 Gilbert and Marigold (57)
There was a knock at his door, and Gilbert quickly turned his phone off.
Marigold pushed the door open. She felt concerned for him when she saw him at his desk. "Are you still busy? Are the Bradshaws purposely giving you all this work to upset you?"
These days, Gilbert left home early and came back late. He was busier than he had been in his own company.
"No. I'm fine." Gilbert was not fine, but he couldn't tell her that. She would only worry.
Right this moment, a text arrived on his phone. He glanced at it, and anger began ripping through his chest.
It was from Esther. She said that since Gilbert had made his decision, he would have to make Marigold move out of his villa.
Gilbert was furious. He thought that Esther had no business interfering with his matters. However, he suppressed his emotions. He had to take down the Bradshaws. Otherwise, he and Marigold would not live in peace. Since he had a decision made, he had a plan. But Marigold would have to suffer for a while.
There was a moment's silence. Although Gilbert said nothing, Marigold could sense his emotional turmoil. "Did something happen?" she asked.
Gilbert looked up at her. They held their gazes just like that, and after God knew how long, he said, "It's nothing much. It's just that Jenny told me this afternoon that she wants you to take the child and accompany her for a few days. She wants to experience caring for a child for a while."
"What? Is she preparing to have a child with Alec?" Marigold asked.
"Perhaps. Maybe she's not sure if she likes children, so she wants you to take Cal over," Gilbert said calmly. He didn't look as if he were lying at all.
Marigold's relationship with Jenny was pretty alright. She had no reason to refuse. Thus, she agreed. "Okay." But after that, she felt upset. "Well...I would have to leave this place for now."
"It's fine. You can come back after that." Gilbert smiled, feeling an ache in his heart. If he were just stronger and had the ability to defeat the Bradshaws, he wouldn't have had to resort to this. "That's true. It's not a long distance away, after all. You can come see us if you miss Cal." She didn't know how long Jenny would want her to stay. A few days would suffice, wouldn't it? Gilbert was relieved to see that Marigold trusted him. But at the same time, he felt pained.
Marigold would be so sad to know that he was lying to her. But he had no other choice. If he didn't send her away, Esther wouldn't believe him, and the Bradshaws would place all their attention on Marigold. There would be no telling when they would attack her.
Gilbert truly didn't want anything to happen to her, so he had to send her to Jenny's place. It would be safer that way. He didn't feel so upset once his decision was made.
Everything was for a better future ahead.
"Are you hungry?" Gilbert asked her.
"I'm alright. Are you?" She hadn't brought him food these past two days. Gilbert hadn't let her, saying he didn't want her to be tired. Thus, the servants were the ones who brought food to him. Normally, if he'd had dinner, he wouldn't eat anything else at home.
Gilbert stood up and patted her on the head. "I'm a little hungry. Can you eat with me?"
Marigold blushed, answering softly, "Sure."
