To Be Yours Again novel (Alec and Jenny) -
Chapter 909 You're Best Friends With Him?
He chuckled at her question and asked her instead, "Are you worried?"
"Of course! Who isn't worried about their safety?" Given how influential the Fausts were, she figured she couldn't take them down even as the head of the Walters.
Zeke Faust was a merciless man from the way he silently agreed to Xavier's attack on Alec. He was definitely not easy to deal with.
"Why would you agree to have dinner with me, then?" he inquired, as he did not see any hint of fear on her face.
She took a bite and said nonchalantly, "I can't possibly give up on my normal life out of fear."
Agreeing to dine with Alec and getting closer to each other was part of her normal life, and she wouldn't change that for anyone, even if that meant risking her safety. She did not believe that keeping a distance from Alec would make her safe from Zeke Faust. If the old man set his eyes on her, he wouldn't go easy on her no matter how far she stayed away from Alec.
"Yeah, you're right." He nodded in agreement. "Don't worry. I'll protect you."
"Hah, no, thanks." She was confident that Zeke Faust would need to deliberate before attacking her, given that she was the head of the Walters, even though she was no match for the Fausts. Alec somehow found her confidence alluring. A desire arose in him. "Jenny, you look really dazzling at this moment."
Her hand froze in the air. His sudden compliment embarrassed her. "You'd be naive to think I'd agree to date you by dishing out a few compliments."
"I know. But I really think that you're dazzling." He understood her reservation about dating him. It was all his fault for not cherishing her in the past. He was satisfied and grateful for their current relationship and was in no rush to take it to the next level. He believed that he would one day touch her heart. It was a matter of time.
She scoffed, but he could hear the joy in her tone. A smile appeared on his lips.
After dinner, he sent her home. To her surprise, he sent her to the new apartment unit she bought instead of Walter Castle. When they walked into her neighborhood, she shot Alec a questioning look. "How did you know that I moved here?"
"I sent bodyguards to protect you," he answered.
She had expected it, but she still felt odd. Normally, he wouldn't reveal that he'd sent men to protect her out of the worry that she might hate it. But...
She stopped and stared at him.
He could sense her doubt. Feeling defeated, he chuckled wryly. "Okay, I'll admit. It was Alfred who told me about your new place."
She was taken aback. "Since when did you two become best friends? She'd only requested Alfred to hunt for accommodation not long ago, and without wasting time, he went and told Alec all about it. That was speedy.
"We're not. We're just acquaintances." He certainly didn't think he was close with Alfred-they'd probably never be.
She refused to accept his explanation. "Why would he reveal everything to you if you're just acquaintances?" As Alfred's boss, she believed Alfred wasn't the type to leak her whereabouts to a mere acquaintance.
