To Be Yours Again novel (Alec and Jenny) -
Chapter 908 Getting Help Was Easy, but Sending Away the Helper Was Tough
Jenny didn't overstay her welcome in Yvonne's room. Neither did she care about the identity of Yvonne's attacker. It was none of her business; she wanted nothing to do with it.
When Alec met up with her, she deliberately told him about Yvonne to observe his reaction. There was no change in his expression, as though Yvonne was a stranger to him. She was bored by his reaction and grumbled, "You were close with her. Why don't you look like you care?"
"Jenny, you're impossible sometimes." He sighed and smiled at her in defeat. She was puzzled by his remark, and he explained, "Were you hoping for any reaction when you brought up Yvonne? Did you think I'd care about her?"
She pouted. "It was a casual talk. If you hate the topic, just forget I've ever brought it up."
"No, it's not that I hate the topic. I think you underestimated my feelings for you." He never had feelings for Yvonne and couldn't care less about her getting beaten up and hospitalized. Even if she was dead, he wouldn't show any response to the news.
"Okay." Jenny was at a loss for words as she recalled how Alec had frequently referred to Yvonne as his "savior" in the past. She wouldn't have cared enough to tell him about Yvonne if he hadn't done that. Sensing that Jenny was upset, Alec hurriedly added, "I'm not blaming you. I just thought you shouldn't test my feelings for you by mentioning her. I was never interested in her anyway." His relationship with Yvonne was no more than friends. Plus, after everything that had happened, he no longer saw her as a friend. Take the example of Yvonne's trip to Bardoff City. He knew nothing about it, and not once did Yvonne visit him. That was clear evidence of their non-existent relationship.
"Oh. So, who were you interested in?" She tilted her head, feeling interested in the topic.
Taken aback, he replied, "You."
"Stop trying to change the topic. Who were you interested in apart from me?" She stared intently at him, demanding an answer.
Feeling that he'd stepped into a trap, he lifted both hands and surrendered. "No one else! Just you!"
"Oh, is that so?" She did not believe in his words and recalled his crush, the woman named Quinn Blue. Yvonne once described Jenny as Quinn's replacement. Even after she accepted Alec's explanation, she still thought that Quinn must be a special person to him. Still, she did not press on, as that would ruin the atmosphere. She'd take his word and trust him for once.
"Don't you ever worry that Zeke Faust would turn his attention to me, given how frequently you've been visiting me lately?" she said with a smile. The Fausts' situation had turned way more complicated. That was perhaps a little of an overstatement. After all, their only common enemy was Alec Faust. Putting on a united front against Alec, the family members temporarily put behind their internal strife.
If Zeke Faust had thought of that, he wouldn't have invited Alec to Bardoff City, leading to the current situation. After inviting Alec from Parrington, the Fausts now had to think of a way to send him back. Getting help was easy, but sending away the helper was tough. Alec didn't look like he'd leave any time soon.
