To Be Yours Again novel (Alec and Jenny) -
Chapter 989 As Long as You Like It
When Jenny walked into the living room and saw the hot oatmeal on the dining table, she was a little stunned. She looked at Alec, still busying himself in the kitchen, and a warm feeling washed over her. She took a step toward him and said, "Hey."
She called out softly, and he turned around with a smile. "Oh, you're awake already. Do you feel better?" he asked with concern.
"Yeah. I feel better now." Jenny nodded and walked toward him. She was surprised to see that he was making tortellini. For a moment, she didn't know what to say. Then, she asked, "What time did you get up?"
"I don't remember. It was still dark outside." Alec said with a laugh, not minding that he'd gotten no sleep at all. It was his first time making tortellini, so he wasn't very familiar with the process. Fortunately, he had some talent for cooking, so his attempt didn't end up in failure.
Alec was about to ask Jenny to have breakfast when he suddenly felt Jenny's warm body in his arms.
"Why are you so good to me?" Even though Jenny hadn't accepted Alec and was still hesitant about being in a relationship with him, she couldn't help but feel moved by Alec's kindness at that moment, even if she'd steeled her heart to not be swayed by emotions.
Feeling the warmth in his chest, Alec lowered his head and looked at the person in his arms. Then, he raised his arms and hugged her back tightly. "You're wrong. I haven't been good to you at all. If I were good to you, I wouldn't have hurt you so badly before."
Alec had always regretted not treating Jenny well when she was his wife; even when she became his girlfriend, he still didn't cherish her enough. The insignificant amount of kindness now was nothing but futile compensation that came too little and too late. To him, it was practically worthless.
"Let's forget about the past. Actually, when I think about it, it's not all your fault."
Jenny removed herself from his embrace. In her heart, she understood that the past wasn't entirely his fault. They had gotten married in a hurry back then, so it was normal for Alec to be resentful about being bound to her. Although he never came to see her in person, he never did anything to harm her, either.
In fact, looking back now, Jenny thought she was just unable to swallow her pride back then.
Alec's eyes brightened hearing her say that. "Jenny, are you saying that you forgive me for the foolish things I did before?"
"Yeah." Jenny nodded.
Alec was elated; he didn't bother to suppress the wide, beaming smile that had appeared on his face automatically. "Thank you," he said.
"Come and have breakfast. You've done enough," Jenny replied, feeling a little embarrassed as she turned to leave the kitchen.
Alec was still smiling, but he didn't refuse. He brought the steaming hot tortellini to the dining table and said, "Try it and let me know what you think. Give me some feedback, and I'll improve next time." Jenny tried one, and the corners of her eyes lifted up as she said with a slight smile, "It's delicious. There's nothing to improve."
Alec had a real talent for cooking. Even though it was his first time making tortellini, Jenny still thought it was very delicious. In fact, it tasted even better than the ones sold in restaurants.
"If you like it, I can make it for you every morning." Alec was naturally happy to receive recognition for his cooking. Moreover, the person who acknowledged his cooking was Jenny, so his happiness was multiplied several times over.
Upon hearing that, Jenny quickly waved her hand to show that it would be too much of a hassle. "There's no need. It'll be too troublesome, so you don't have to do it."
He was a busy man-she'd feel guilty if he wasted so much time making breakfast for her every day.
"It's not troublesome as long as you like it." He looked at her intently.
Jenny was taken aback. She cleared her throat to ease her racing heart. "There's really no need. I'll quickly tire of even the most delectable if I eat it every single day." "That's true. Just let me know when you would like to have a taste of my cooking, and I'll gladly cook for you." Alec agreed, so he didn't insist any further. Jenny replied with a simple "okay" and said nothing else.
