To Be Yours Again novel (Alec and Jenny) -
Chapter 996 He Can't Die!
Jenny wanted to help but knew she would only distract Evan instead of helping him out under such a circumstance. So, she could only hide behind the window and cower in fear. The gunfire continued. Soon, Evan climbed out the window and came to Jenny's side.
"Let's go!"
"Those men..."
"It seems that Alec has brought his men here. We should leave and let him deal with them," Evan said. Without waiting for Jenny to speak, he took her by the hand and made to leave.
Jenny heard gunfire not far away and was worried about Alec, but she also knew it was better to leave quickly. If she and Evan were caught, it would only hinder Alec's effort in dealing with those men. The two cautiously escaped, and Jenny realized they were in a normal residence. The house wasn't big, and it only had a small courtyard. That was where they were hiding at the moment, observing their surroundings and figuring out where to go.
It seemed the abductors were all busy dealing with Alec outside the perimeter of the courtyard. Jenny knew that she and Evan had to hurry and not waste the opportunity that Alec had created for them. "Jenny, step on my back and climb over the wall." Evan chose a relatively low wall. He bent down and let Jenny step on his back.
"Okay." Jenny didn't hesitate. Every extra unnecessary word uttered was a waste of time.
Although any form of movement was difficult for Jenny, she still succeeded in climbing over the wall with a formidable spirit. Just as she was waiting for Evan to climb out, footsteps came from not far away. She instinctively looked and saw that the person coming was Alec, which made her happy and relieved. "Alec!"
"Jenny, are you okay?" Alec walked over to Jenny hurriedly.
But in the next second, a turn of events occurred. Alec had been busy looking for Jenny and didn't bother to take care of all the men who had kidnapped her.
"Be careful!" the two men shouted in unison, but the sick Jenny reacted very slowly.
She was about to be hit by a bullet when a figure shot toward her and pushed her to the floor.
The two bodies fell to the floor heavily, accompanied by Evan's muffled groan.
Alec turned around and shot the man who fired at them, instantly taking him out. Then, he walked over to Jenny in frantic steps. "Jenny!"
"I'm okay. Send Evan to the hospital!" Jenny was trembling with fear, and she could feel the warm blood soaking her clothes. She could see that Evan's face was pale.
At that moment, she even forgot to breathe.
Alec helped Evan up, then carried him on his back and supported Jenny as they walked toward a nearby car. He looked back at Paul, who was not far away, and with just one glance, Paul understood what he meant-leave no one alive.
As the car sped on the road, Jenny was a little dazed and starting to lose consciousness. But when she turned her head and saw Evan lying motionless beside her, she instantly regained her senses. She couldn't pass out right now-she had to take him to the hospital, replace the best doctor for him, and make sure he was okay before she could relax.
Alec was driving at full speed. "Don't worry, Jenny. He'll be fine."
Although he didn't like Evan, he didn't wish for him to be grievously injured. He got hurt in his attempt to save Jenny. If he died, Jenny would remember him for the rest of her life.
"Hang in there and don't die, Evan! You can't die!" Alec prayed wordlessly.
