Chapter 257 Something Was Very Off

The deputy factory manager, Caleb Depp, had sustained injuries while dispersing the workers. He

sat up in bed and greeted, “Ms. Shenton, you’re here.”

Caleb’s wife stood and offered her seat. “Please, have a seat, Ms. Shenton.”

Caroline smiled and signaled her bodyguard to place the gift basket down. Then, she sat and said, ”

Even though the police have already taken a statement, I’d like to inquire about some details.”

Caleb nodded. “I understand. Our mismanagement resulted in your financial loss.”

“Money is a minor concern. What matters is that we are all safe,” Caroline replied with a faint

smile

Caleb added, “You care deeply about everyone, Ms. Shenton Honestly, I’m puzzled about the fire’s

cause. It originated in the warehouse, where the fabric was stored. But we inspected it diligently

daily and noticed no fire hazards.”

Caroline nodded, “Hmm. The detective mentioned the same and hasn’t ruled out deliberate arson.”

Caleb emphasized, “Absolutely! The warehouse is secured, and there are fire alarms, too. We didn’t

hear any alarms when the fire started.”

Caleb’s wife chimed in “Yes, we were working, and there was no noise. By the time we realized,

the fire had already spread. The real silk and cotton fabric burned quickly.”

Caroline asked, “Did you notice anyone acting suspiciously? If you can’t recall now, please inform

me if you remember later.”

Caleb assured, “Don’t worry, Ms. Shenton. I’ll definitely let you know if something comes to mind.”

Caroline engaged in conversation with them for a while before departing.

As she was about to head downstairs, her phone rang, and she answered when she saw Paige’s

name.

Paige’s worried voice sounded, “Carol, I saw the news, and I didn’t call you yesterday because ! knew

you’d be busy.”

Caroline sighed. “I understand.” She pressed the elevator button weakly.

Paige continued. “What did the detective say? Have they checked the surveillance footage?”

“The surveillance footage didn’t reveal any suspicious individuals at the time or any other time.”

“Could it be an inside job, then?” Paige wondered.

Caroline paused and frowned. “That’s a possibility, but why would an employee do that?”

“What if it wasn’t an employee but someone close to you? Don’t forget Daniella! She just started her

company, and now yours is in trouble. It seems suspicious, right?”

“I had my suspicions, but I can’t make accusations without evidence,” Caroline shared

Paige sighed. “You’re too lenient! You can’t establish a strong foothold without being ruthless!”

The elevator doors opened, and Caroline stepped inside. “I’ll be cautious around those close to me.

I have to hang up now. I’m going into the elevator.”

“Of course.”

Paige contemplated and sensed that something was amiss.

How could there be no leads on the fire incident? Had someone planted an ignition source

beforehand?

After pondering for a few minutes, Paige grew increasingly agitated and smacked the table,

inadvertently shaking her phone.

Suddenly, she thought of Alex and quickly dialed his number.

Alex answered promptly, I’m busy. What do you need?”

Paige said urgently, “Hey, Pug, when can you spare some time? I need your help to analyze

something.”

“Hey, ‘Pug‘ doesn’t sound too great. Can you call me something else?”
