True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 1070
"You're worried that I'll be unfair?" Jensen retorted with a smile.
"No," Zayne shook his head, "I just want this matter to be handled impartially."
This young man was smart and had a way with words. He meant basically saying the same thing, but the way Zayne had rephrased it made the distrust seem non-existent. This child has some tricks up his sleeves.
Jensen smiled slightly and said, "Well, if you're so worried that your mother's case might be treated unfairly, why would you still let her turn herself in?"
Zayne looked at Jensen and replied, "I just want to live my life with a clear conscience. I think it's better to own up to it, that's all."
Jensen startled a little at that before speaking up, "It seems that your value aligns with mine."
"I don't quite care if they do or not," Zayne stated, his tone bored and a little biting.
Jensen continued to look at the young man in front of him some more. He really was something else.
He didn't even look the slightest bit panicked by the thought of his mother being sent to prison. He was the epitome of calm at the moment which greatly impressed Jensen.
Still looking at him, Jensen said, "You're right. Guess it doesn't matter if your values do align with mine or not. But tell me this, how do you envision everything to turn out?"
"Officer Charm, I believe that you understand what impartial means. I want this case to be investigated and judged according to the law. I want it to be handled properly," Zayne said in a deep voice. Jensen shrugged and said, "Well, that's a given. You realise that your mother has just committed a homicide, right? If the crime is proven, she might be sent to jail."
Zayne's eyes narrowed at it and a worried look could be seen in his eyes. However, he calmed himself down quickly.
He looked out of the window for a while before speaking, "I believe my mother will accept the consequences. She has to be responsible for her actions after all."
Jensen felt once again defeated by this levelheaded young man in front of him. He merely looked at him in silence.
Sensing the man's gaze on him, Zayne turned away from the window and redirected his gaze to meet Jensen's eyes again.
"I did a background check on you before. You're a relatively successful policeman, an incredibly qualified one to boot. I believe that you are not one to advocate for unfairness," Zayne said. "So your reminder just now was for my own good?" Jensen asked.
"You can put it that way," Zayne said. "I just don't want the policeman in charge to be changed midway. It would be troublesome."
"Well, alright then. I'll watch from the side. If she is truly repentant and Grace has not been severely harmed, maybe her punishment won't be too terrible," Jensen said, "Right then, I'm going to go in and get more intel about the proceedings."
Zayne pursed his lips and asked, "How badly is Grace hurt?"
Jensen was startled by the sudden question.
Zayne added, "You must have received some updates about her situation. Otherwise, you wouldn't say so."
Jensen was surprised again. This young man was really sharp, it was borderline terrifying.
He looked at Zayne and replied with a slight smile, "You realize that Grace is pregnant, right? We can't confirm that everything will be alright until the children are born. There's no use speculating until that happens."
Zayne added, "To be fair, we can't be sure if the damage is caused by my mother's actions or if it happened naturally. Right now, we can only pray that the children will be born safely and healthily. Otherwise, my mother will surely be blamed. Even if we do replace out that it wasn't her fault, in the end, everyone else will still think it is."
Jensen nodded thoughtfully and said, "That makes perfect sense, you're completely right."
Zayne gnawed at his lips a little and replied, "I just hope the children will be safe and sound."
"I hope so too," Jensen said, "Let's pray together and hope for the best then."
After that, he went to see how Quinn's interrogation was going.
At that point, Quinn was still being questioned.
At the same time, Timothy, who had just come to the station from the hospital, saw Zayne.
Upon seeing Timothy, Zayne gaped a little and asked, "Dad, why are you here?" "Zayne," Timothy greeted.
He did not seem to know how to explain himself. He found it difficult to get words out of his
mouth.
"You've settled the divorce papers and everything then?" Zayne asked instead.
Timothy felt a stab in his heart, his tone taking on a bitter note as he replied, "Yes, everything has been settled. But I don't understand, why would you bring your mother here to turn herself in?"
"Dad, this is what you've wanted all along, is it not?" Zayne asked in an exasperated tone as he looked his father straight in the eye. "This has been your intention all along. You want my mother to own up to her actions and be punished so that you can somehow make up for all those years of guilt you've felt towards Grace."
Timothy admitted that it was his initial thought. But later, he had felt that the divorce was enough punishment for Quinn. He didn't expect his son to be even more ruthless than himself.
"Dad, you two have been married for so many years. Do you think you've really been fair to her?" Zayne asked again. Timothy merely stared at his son in silence.
At that moment, he did not know how to answer that question.
He was also asking himself the same question. Did he ever love this wife?
"Dad, I know you've never really loved my mother. The reason why you married her was that she was a suitable wife for you. You just needed someone to take up the role, and my mother just happened to be the one.
Although the both of you have had two sons together, you've never truly loved each other. The two of you merely tolerated each other for the sake of peace and harmony. Like most families, you two look very lovely on the surface, but there has always been a gap in your heart. However, it's one that neither Mom, Eamon, or I could fill up." Zayne said.
Zayne's words made Timothy contemplate in an instant.
He couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed. Maybe what Zayne said was true. There might very well be a space in his heart that he himself had not been clear about all this while.
"So it is not entirely my mother's fault for hurting Grace like this today. You should also be held accountable. If you had given my mother enough love, if you had tried to make her feel secure enough in this relationship, she would not have done such a thing." Zayne said.
"A married man should be responsible to his own family. If he can't completely devote himself to his family, it's better for him to not get married and have children. If he's only siring children for the sake of the family name's continuity without intending to bear any responsibilities that come with that, I personally think this kind of life is meaningless," Zayne continued. It made Timothy feel even more ashamed of himself.
He was once again stunned by the sudden realisation that his own son had always been unhappy with their marriage.
He was not as innocent as he thought he had been.
In a failed marriage, no one was.
He looked at his son and a hint of self-mockery flashed across his eyes. "You're right, I am partially responsible. I'm not a successful man by any means, nor am I a qualified husband or father. However, the guilt I feel towards you and Eamon is not as deep as the guilt I feel towards Grace. If I have hurt the both of you in any way, I'm very sorry."
"Dad!" Zayne growled, "It seems that you have mistaken."
