Gary's heart lurched as he looked at Celeste in astonishment. "You knew?" he asked, his eyes wide.

Celeste pursed her lips, her heart aching. "Yes. I know that you gave Cindy a pint of your blood to save her life."

Although she kept her tone light, her heart ached for him.

Gary had done so much for her.

For her sake, he had repaid her debt of gratitude to Cindy for raising her.

She felt as if a weight had been lifted off her shoulders.

"Gary, I don't owe her anything anymore. Thank you for doing that for me. I'm finally free from her. So please, don't hurt yourself for my sake in the future," Celeste pleaded.

She did not know how to feel about Cindy. However, it was a fact that Cindy had indirectly caused her mother's death.

Whatever had happened between Cindy, Sinclair, Monica, and Celeste's mother in the past should not have been Celeste's burden to bear.

However, she ended up bearing it anyway.

Therefore, after what Gary had done for her, she did not feel like she owed Cindy anything anymore.

"All right, I promise. Never again. Don't worry, I won't willingly hurt myself in the future," Gary assured her.

"You didn't even tell me about it after. Do you know how scared I was? You were so pale that day that I thought you were going to pass out on the spot."

Gary smiled and asked, "How did you replace out? Who told you?"

Celeste paused for a moment. She did not want to let Gary know that it was Alex who had told her, so she hurriedly replied, "I'm not going to tell you who told me."

Gary raised his eyebrows. "Was it Heinz?"

Celeste shook her head and quickly denied it.

Gary raised his eyebrows at that. Noticing how quick Celeste was to deny it, he said, "It must be Heinz then. I know Heinz can't help running that big mouth of his. I'll bet he told you to make you feel guilty. He would do anything to drive a wedge between us."

Gary was certain that Heinz was the one who told

Celeste.

Seeing Uncle Heinz thus wrongfully accused, Celeste could not help speaking in his defense. "It wasn't Uncle Jones, I swear. How can you think so little of your father? It really wasn't him."

"It wasn't him?" he asked, looking at her disbelievingly. "You're just trying to cover for him, aren't you? I understand that old man's cunning ways much better than you do."

"It was Mr. Alex who told me. It really wasn't Uncle Jones. Really, how could you say that about your own father?" Celeste finally said, left with no choice but to tell the truth.

"Mr. Alex?" Gary echoed, surprised. After thinking about it, he realized that it was possible. After all, when Gary had spoken to Alex the other day, Alex had not promised to keep the matter a secret from Celeste.

Gary let out a long sigh and said, "I really don't know what to say. I can't believe he told you."

"Why didn't you tell me about it?" Celeste fixed her gaze on him and continued in a solemn tone, "If you keep on hiding the truth from me, I'll be nothing but a clueless fool. Don't you think that's a little unfair to me? Plus, I'm not a saint, you know? I won't let someone I love hurt themselves for a worthless woman like that. Promise me that you won't do anything like that again."

Gary reached out to hug her. "All right, I promise. I won't do anything like that in the future."

Even so, Celeste knew that if she asked him to do something like that for her in the future, he would still agree to it in a heartbeat.

She suddenly realized how deep Gary's feelings for her ran. He had done a lot for her without her knowledge. However, she had not understood that before and even misunderstood him on multiple occasions.

It was clear that he cared about her a lot.

The realization warmed the cockles of her heart, but also made her distressed.

She leaned into Gary's embrace and listened to his steady heartbeat while breathing in his warm, familiar scent.

Celeste sighed deeply. "Let's stop talking about them from now on. I hope they won't trouble us anymore." Hearing that, Gary chuckled.

When Celeste heard him laugh, she knew that he was probably laughing at her naive thinking.

She smiled and said, "You think it's wishful thinking, don't you?" "Yes, I really do. For one, it's impossible that they won't trouble us in the future. If they hadn't harassed us in the first place, we wouldn't have had to go through all that trouble before, and we wouldn't have seen their true colors. It's clear that they'll continue to harass us as long as they get the chance," Gary explained.

Celeste nodded in agreement.

He was right. It was impossible for Sinclair to stop harassing her.

He would do it whenever the opportunity arose.

The same applied to Cindy. Even though she was not as bad as Sinclair, she was still an annoyance.

With that in mind, Celeste sighed. "To be honest, it's because I'm not strong enough. Once I become more capable, I'll be able to handle the situation better."

"It doesn't matter. You have me, don't you?" Gary hugged her. "I can protect you. Once we get to Boston, you'll be on my turf. I'm much more familiar with that place than London."

"All right, I'll stay by your side from now on," she replied, looking up at Gary with a sincere smile.

She did not think that they would move in together so soon.

However, it seemed that all the assumptions she had made from before were no longer valid.

People change.

Celeste's life was getting better by the minute.

She decided that she should stop feeling sorry for herself. She wanted to be more optimistic and cherish everything she had.

"By the way, before we leave, do you want to pay Cindy a visit?" Gary asked.

"No." Celeste refused without any hesitation. "There's no need for that."

"Are you sure?" he asked, his tone uncertain.

Celeste replied firmly, "I'm sure. I don't want to go.

I don't have any compassion left for her."

"All right then. I've already repaid your debt to her anyway. You don't owe her a single thing anymore," Gary said.

Celeste nodded. In the future, the only people she owed her life to was the Jones family. She swore to herself that she would never leave Gary's side.

She gazed at Gary's handsome face and smiled. "I haven't told Maria about my plan to study in Boston. I'm worried that she'll laugh at me, or worse, get angry with me. She'll be the only girl left in the family over here."

"I don't think that's likely." Gary chuckled and continued, "Back then, she didn't have any plans to study abroad, but after she met Liam, she followed him to London and ended up here, didn't she? She even applied to the same university as Liam! I'm sure she'll understand your decision. Otherwise, she's not fit to be considered your friend."

Celeste burst out laughing. "Well then, I hope Maria will understand."

When Celeste told everyone the news the next day, Maria was the one with the biggest reaction. "What? You're leaving for Boston? You're going to leave me in London with Ernest?!" Indeed, Maria was overreacting.

Celeste looked at her in surprise.

Liam reached out and tugged Maria's arm.

Only then did Maria realize that she was being a little overdramatic. She patted her hair selfconsciously and settled back into her seat. "I just think it's a little strange. Why did you suddenly change your mind? Gary, shouldn't you be the one to do something like that? You should've made the move to stay back in London! Why is Celeste the one taking the initiative most of the time? If you stay in London, the four of us can study together. It would be so much fun!"

Gary looked at her indifferently and said flatly, "I had planned to stay here. I called my professor yesterday and was in the process of filling in my application, but Celeste beat me to it. She had already applied for a transfer to Boston and got everything approved before me. That's why we're going there instead."
