True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 1777
Leah was truly surprised to see Ernest.
She thought that Ernest would never see her again after they broke up, especially after he warned her that seriously.
Leah's heart was crushed into pieces at that time.
She didn't want to humiliate herself, hence blocking his number. She didn't want to give herself the chance to replace him again.
She deleted all of his contact information. She didn't even want to get in touch with Maria, as Maria would only remind her of him.
Yet, he was actually looking into her eyes and talking to her right now over the phone. What was happening?
Leah had no idea.
She was afraid that she would be reading too much into this.
Ernest's gaze turned deeper as he finally got to see Leah. He had been missing her every single day. With a complicated expression, he asked, "Are you outside?" "Yes," Leah replied faintly. She didn't want to let him hear anything strange from her tone.
Yet her voice was still trembling unconsciously.
She didn't know whether Ernest could tell or not.
Leah didn't want to figure out Ernest's intention for this phone call. She said, "If there's nothing else, I'll hang up first. I still have things to attend to."
She was about to hang up when Ernest said quickly, "Don't hang up."
Leah was startled for a moment. She looked at Ernest in surprise and asked, "What's wrong?"
Ernest hesitated for a moment and said, "Leah, unblock my number."
His voice was low. It even sounded like an order, leaving no room for negotiation.
Leah raised her eyebrows and asked, "Is that necessary? Didn't you tell me that we won't be seeing each other anymore?"
"There's still something we have to figure out together. It's necessary." Ernest replied.
Leah was startled for a long while. She really couldn't know what Ernest was thinking.
"I don't know what you are referring to. I'm sure we have dealt with everything between us. Just tell me what's on your mind." Leah asked in a straightforward manner.
Ernest could tell that she didn't want to talk more with him. He frowned and said, "Unblock my number, and then we'll talk."
"There's no need for that," Leah flatly refused, "I think you can just tell me now."
Ernest frowned and couldn't help but ask in a lower voice, "Why do you insist on blocking my number?"
"Isn't that what you wanted?" Leah asked.
Ernest immediately frowned and asked, "When did I ask for it?"
Leah said again, "You were the one who told me we won't be seeing each other after breaking up. I agreed with that. Isn't it best for us to be blocking each other's numbers then? Just tell me whatever you wan to say. I'm busy."
"Why are you outside at this hour? It's not safe for you. You should go back now." Ernest again sounded as if he was ordering her around. Leah frowned. She didn't like hearing that.
"I don't think you get to decide on that," Leah said, "Just tell me what you want to say and then I'll hang up."
At that moment, the guy walking behind Leah approached her and put his arm around her shoulders. He saw Ernest through the phone and immediately asked, "Leah, who is this?" Leah's body stiffened at the sudden touch. She turned around and looked at the guy before saying, "He's a cousin of my friend. You know, the beauty from just now."
Ernest frowned upon hearing how Leah introduced him. He was clearly upset.
Also, he noticed Leah didn't push that guy away despite his arm on her shoulders.
Ernest's eyes narrowed at that sight. His frown grew deeper as he said in a low voice, "Leah, how did you introduce me again?"
"I said you are Maria's cousin. What's wrong with that?" Leah refuted. Why was he being like this? She didn't do anything wrong.
Ernest could tell that Leah was determined in ending things with him.
How could he allow this to happen?
Ernest then said to the guy beside Leah, "Take your hand off my woman."
The guy was startled and glanced at Leah subconsciously.
Leah was also dumbfounded.
Not only Leah, but Maria was dumbfounded too.
For a moment there, they were all silent.
They did not know how to react to Ernest's words, including Maria.
However, Maria was still the first to react as she gave Ernest a thumbs up.
This was exactly how the Jones family's children should be acting. He had to stand up for himself when necessary. This was the only way to intimidate the guy next to Leah. This was also the only way to let people around Leah know that she was taken.
Other men could just stop taking their shots at her.
Ernest's sentence was just too heart-fluttering for any woman to hear.
Leah's heart was probably beating wildly too.
Ernest was the man this time.
Seeing that there was no response, and the guy's arm was still on Leah's shoulders, Ernest narrowed his eyes again. It was intimidating.
He said to that guy in a terrifying tone, "Take your hand off Leah's shoulders."
With almost a subconscious reflex, the guy immediately withdrew his arm and put a distance between himself and Leah.
He also said to Ernest repeatedly, "Don't get me wrong. Leah and I are great friends. I don't see her that way at all. None of us knew that Leah was taken. Please don't misunderstand anything." Ernest didn't listen to the guy's explanation. He just asked the guy, "Where are you guys now?"
The guy repeated Ernest's question as if he was talking to himself. Then, he raised his head and said, "We are at some pub in the Northern City. We are having a gathering here."
Ernest frowned. "What are you all doing in a pub when you are all college students? What were you guys thinking about bringing a girl along?"
Perhaps it was due to his icy expression, as well as his intimidating tone, the guy was terrified upon hearing what he said.
Thus, he nodded to Ernest. "You're right. We shouldn't be gathering in a pub. Leah, let's wrap this up then. You should head back and spend more time with your boyfriend. Come on, I'll get a cab for you." Leah was startled for a long time.
At that moment, she finally came to her senses.
She stared at Ernest with discomfort as she frowned. She then told the guy, "I'll get my own cab. You should just return to the gathering."
After saying that, she pushed the guy away and said over the phone, "Ernest, what are you doing? We are over. I've decided to not look for you anymore. Why are you doing this to me?"
Ernest took in her angry expression, yet it was a heart-fluttering sight to him. With a smile, he said, "I meant my words."
"I am not your girlfriend. We've broken up. Stop acting like this." Leah felt humiliated.
Ernest swept a glance at Maria. She immediately understood his intentions and mouthed her words, "I'll leave this to you. Remember, don't get too emotional."
Maria even put her hands together and bowed lightly to Ernest. She felt like she was too hung up over them. She knew that Ernest might not be able to talk his heart out when she was there listening. Thus, she was smart enough to leave him alone.
She wished him the best while at the same time reminding him to not lose his temper.
Maria didn't head upstairs, but instead, she headed out. She even locked the door from outside.
In this way, the butler couldn't get in and there would be no one else to disrupt Ernest. Perhaps it would all be over as long as Ernest was willing to apologize.
She was hopeful about this. However, Leah's tone turned cold when she noticed Maria wasn't there. "Ernest, hand the phone back to Maria. I'll hang up after talking to her."
"You can talk to Maria later. Your time, for now, is mine." Ernest refused. He didn't mention that Maria had already left.
He did it on purpose, as he knew Leah would definitely hang up on him if he told her Maria wasn't there.
Ernest was more strategic this time.
"I have nothing to say to you." Leah only realized that she had fallen into his trap after she left the pub. She was there for a gathering yet Ernest was already sending her on her way back. She was dumbfounded.
This was too frustrating.
How was it possible that his influence could still reach her? Leah was a little terrified at this. She was also frustrated at herself for being a good-for-nothing.
"There's something we should talk about," Ernest said lightly as if he was being extremely patient with Leah. "Just unblock my number first."
