Leah frowned. She then replied with a text message, "I don't trust you anymore."

Maria replied, "I really didn't mean it."

Then, she added, "Fine, I admit I did do it on purpose. I wanted to fix your relationship. I think you two shouldn't end like this. Leah, please don't stay mad at me."

Leah hesitated for a while and finally decided to call Maria.

It was a voice call. She didn't want to put it on video as she wasn't sure if Ernest was there with Maria.

Her heart was still in a mess. She was afraid that she would lose control of herself and say things that she didn't mean to say.

Maria answered the call almost right away. "Leah, I'm so sorry. I'm really sorry about this."

"It's fine. I can't even tell if you did the right thing or not," Leah said.

Maria immediately caught the sign in Leah's words. Was she about to forgive Ernest?

"Are you forgiving Ernest? Please get back together already. He really likes you a lot. I don't know what went wrong. He thought you'd trust him, yet you thought that he likes Celeste instead," Maria said. "He does like Celeste. He didn't deny it either. We heard what they said, didn't we?"

Hearing Leah's words, Maria was startled for a while too. She was still a little upset to recall the fact that Liam liked Celeste.

But she quickly pulled herself together and said to Leah, "I know how you feel. I really do. However, we don't really have a choice, do we? If we love them this much, can't we just leave some things behind us? He likes you now, and he's looking for you now. Can't you forgive him?"

"Don't make it sound so serious. I do like him, but I don't want to think too lowly of myself. If he doesn't love me as much, all of my efforts will only be in vain. I can only try if he does like me," Leah explained. "He does. I can prove it," Maria immediately shouted.

Leah did not reply.

She was asking herself, would she try things out if that was the case?

"Leah, to be honest, Ernest noticed the problem between you two, too. Why don't you unblock his number so that you can talk things out together?" Maria voiced out for Ernest once gain.

Leah gave a wry smile and looked at the motionless turtle in the box. She was a little absent-minded.

"Leah? Say something." Maria felt anxious when she didn't get any response.

Leah came to her senses and said, "Maria, I won't unblock his number for now." Maria was a little taken aback.

Then, she suddenly thought of something and asked, "Are you playing hard to get?"

Leah shook her head. "No, I'm not thinking that much, nor am I scheming that much. I just want to calm down. I don't want to act on impulse anymore."

Especially after seeing what happened to Rowane and Hogan that night, she felt like she should restrain herself a little more.

She was aiming to become a lawyer.

A lawyer had to stay rational.

"Does that mean that you are still blocking him?" Maria asked.

"No, Maria. It isn't about that. The problem between me and Ernest is whether he loves me or not." Leah's mind was clearer at that moment.

"You don't have to worry about this. He knows what to do."

"He knows?" Maria was confused again. "Why do I think otherwise?"

"If he doesn't know, then it proves that he doesn't love me enough," Leah said.

Maria was even more confused.

Leah said, "I'm being honest with you. I love him a lot. I will feel it if he loves me enough or not too. I want to be with him, but not when I know he doesn't love me that much."

She was serious about this. Maria could tell.

After thinking for a while, she said, "Alright then. I know what to do now. I'll respect your decision."

"Thank you." Leah said.

"You're welcome," Maria laughed. "By the way, we'll be back in a few days."

Leah was startled.

"Ernest didn't want to go back at first. I told him you might start seeing someone else, then only he agreed to go back with me," Maria said. She didn't hide this from Leah. Leah stared blankly, "So, you're saying that he didn't want to come back in the first place?"

"Don't get me wrong," Maria was afraid that Leah would misunderstand, she immediately explained.

"He probably doesn't know what to do. He was all tensed up when he saw you with another guy. Didn't he look even more attractive when he was acting all possessive over you?" Leah thought for a moment and said, "Yes, indeed."

That moment, he was firm, cool and handsome. It was heart-fluttering.

His possessiveness at that time was stimulated, instead of him putting on an act.

Thinking of this, Leah couldn't help but smile.

She said, "Maria, you don't have to worry about us. Also, don't call me for the next few days."

"Why?" Maria was startled. "Aren't you concerned

"If there's a will, there's a way," Leah said.

Maria was startled. After thinking for a while, she smiled.

"I see." she replied.

The two of them chatted for a while before hanging up.

nest would worry about you?"

As soon as Maria put away her phone, someone knocked on her door.

She got a fright and quickly opened the door. She saw Ernest standing at the door. He asked, "Did you call Leah?"

"Yes." Maria nodded.

"Is she not unblocking my number?" He asked expressionlessly.

"No." Maria nodded again. "She doesn't want to. She probably didn't consider it too."

Ernest frowned more upon hearing that.

Leah was refusing to talk to him. He lowered his gaze.

"Ernest, if there's nothing else, I'll get some sleep first," Maria said deliberately after taking in his expression.

Ernest frowned immediately. "Maria, help me think of a way to reach Leah again."

Hearing this, Maria couldn't help complaining, "Ernest, are you out of your mind? You can replace other ways to reach her if she isn't answering your calls. Do you have to be so rigid?" Ernest knitted his brows. "Other ways?"

"Think about it yourself. Or else, she's going to leave you for sure." Maria looked at him without saying anything else.

There was a sudden glint in his eyes. He thought of something and said, "Thank you."

He turned around and went upstairs.

Maria didn't know what idea he had. Judging from his reaction, he must have thought of something.

Leah took a shower and got changed. She was sitting on her bed as she turned on her laptop.

The chapters were updated again. She was now acting like a fan.

She was a fan of her own book. To be specific, she was a fan of the chapters that were not written by her.

She couldn't help but laugh at the thought.

The author was indeed talented. The characters were lively under his description.

She took a few glances before receiving a message from Victoria. "Miss Reaper, the author wants your contact on WhatsApp. He'll be adding you shortly."

Leah was startled and immediately replied with a voice message, "Why did you send him my contact without asking me first?"

She was already close with Victoria. She didn't have to use any formality in their conversation.

To her surprise, Victoria replied in another voice message, "Why should I ask for your permission? Did you even ask me before wrapping up this book with a horrible ending? I'm doing this for you. If you are upset with this, then just vent your anger out by giving me an opening chapter for your new book. Or else, I'd even give your personal information to him."

"You are threatening me. You are now suspected of leaking my personal information." Leah utilized her legal knowledge in her reply.

"Are you suing me then? Let's wait until you get your license. Otherwise, even if you win the case, you still won't be the one being paid," Victoria replied sarcastically.

Leah was completely dumbfounded.

Although she was studying law, she also understood that it was not practical to proceed with court cases in most situations. After all, the public was not that familiar with the law that they would seek legal advice for everything. Under most circumstances, the public would rather restrain themselves with their ethics than move it to court.

At that moment, she received a notification of being added by someone else.

Leah clicked on the notification and saw that it was someone with the profile picture of a tortoise. She took a closer look and the avatar even resembled two of her tortoises. She couldn't help but smile at it. It seemed that he also liked raising tortoises. Pet lovers were usually kind-hearted too.

He introduced himself as the author to her sequel.

It was a brief introduction and Leah accepted his request.

Since he refused to be paid for the great content he delivered, and for saving her reputation as an author, she should at least accept his request.

He sent her a smiling emoji as soon as she accepted his request.

Leah smiled and sent him another smiling emoji.

He was clearly typing something, yet Leah didn't receive anything from him even after waiting for a long while.
